MIAMI GARDENS — There is voice to these tears.

It should tell the Dolphins something special - something very special - about their quarterback who was so very bad Sunday afternoon.

Chad Pennington didn't weep in great sobs in the losers' locker room at Dolphin Stadium in the wake of Miami's 27-9 playoff loss to Baltimore, during which four of his passes were intercepted and one was returned for a touchdown. But he did cry, ever so quietly, wiping once and then twice and then a third time at his eyes while seated at his cubicle waiting for the start of a radio interview.

Pennington said the loss "hurts so much" because of how personally rewarding this season had been for him. He found a home, and wrapped himself in its embrace. He landed with the Dolphins late in the summer when the Jets dumped him upon getting Brett Favre, who had an acrimonious split with Green Bay.

"It could have easily been awkward when things happened (in August)," Pennington said. "I can't say enough about our staff and my teammates. It's been unbelievable.

"They've supported me since the first day I walked in. I wanted to keep this going."

Pennington offered no excuse for playing his worst game of the season, by far, at the most inopportune time. He praised Baltimore for having "excellent athletes" on defense using "unique concepts."

Pennington had a star season, but he isn't a superstar. He isn't ever likely to make the Dolphins great, but he remains precisely who and what they need in a quarterback as they attempt to continue to grow.

"Here," Pennington replied when asked where he'd spend the off-season. "I'm staying here."

    His voice was clear.

    So were his eyes.

All QBs take losses hard, but you could tell this one really affected Chad. I like to see that. I don't like seeing crying during a game, i.e. Ray Lucas, but it was a hell of a ride for Chad this season. Can't wait for next year...

If Chad is one thing he is the ulitmate professional and will do whatever it takes to win. He is a competitor and he is loyal as hell to his franchise, no matter if when he was the Jets or now with Miami. He will do WHATEVER it takes, including taking less money and staying extra hours. His arm after all the injuries limits him, but his mind is sharp. If he had never gotten hurt....

You'd be saying Brady and the Pats, Manning and the Colts and Chad and the Jets as the Top 3 in the league.

The thing that speaks most loudly to me about Pennington is not that this loss brought him to tears, but that his teammates refused to allow him to bear the brunt of this loss alone... they are still behind him.

    Then I read:

This kind of year, even with the results the team endured yesterday, foreshadow a much better year for the team next year. That was a very Griese-esque type of season, and we really can't complain about him too much, now can we. If the remaining additions to the lineup are made which were shown to be necessary yesterday - a good #1 receiver, a solid interior OL (whether by the return of Smiley and Thomas, or by FA/draft), interior DL (specifically another big, nasty NT), and D backfield improvement. With those, and Chad, winning should become expected rather than a pleasant surprise.

I think this draft will get us some role players and I do believe this team will be better than this year. We made it this far with basically offensive line and defensive line help in this past off-season. Now using this off-season to bolster the wide receivers and defensive backs I think this will be a very very good team next season. I'm looking forward to this draft coming up.

Chad Pennington had a bad game, every quarterback has a bad game including the very best. It came at a bad time but it is not something that he planned to happen it just did. Not making any excuses for him but his teammates let him down a little too. One int was off of Ginn's hands, a little high but it hit Ginn in the hands. Another interception was made possible because Ginn got his feet tangled and fell down. No, I am not pointing a finger at Ginn it was meant as an example of contributing factors to Chads bad game.
Chad Pennington has nothing to hang his head about, when he came to Miami he brought stability to a team that needed it badly. His arrival gave Miami the ability to win 11 games and a division championship after a 1-15 season. His arrival gave Miami the luxury of letting his probable future replacement to stay on the sideline and learn rather than being thrown to the wolves.
The Dolphin fans need not hang their heads nor anguish over a playoff loss. The Dolphins gave us plenty to cheer about this year and a real hope for the future. Chad Pennington is one of those reasons for hope and I am glad he is a Dolphin.

I think it's wonderful that he loves the team and his team mates and admits it. He's a good guy and isn't he the starter again next year? I thought I saw that posted some where. I hope he comes back, he's been such a blessing to the coaches, us and the team. It would be a shame to lose him.
We finally have a "team", a good leader and a good coach and I couldn't be more proud of them all.

We need Chads steadying Influence one more year at least IMO and it will make it that much better for Henne...

That said we need Donald Thomas back and more Interior OL that fit the "make up" and start Smashing on teams like these guys invision and then Chads game will be even more effective.

Reasons like this are why I don't even give time to threads calling for Penny's job. The guy cares about the team, led us to a 11-5 record, and a division title and his reward for that is for a QB competition and his job. :pity:

This only assures me he should be the QB of this team and this is a great thread for showing that.

Also the comment about him not making this team great simply isn't true. I would venture to say that even Peyton Manning couldn't have done much better with this offense (in fact his better offense went home the same week), the fact is the cupboard is getting better but still bare (plus he was without Camarillo in this game). The reason comments like that are made is because he has an inconsistent history and has never been a conventional QB. I truly believe Pennington can be the QB to lead this team to a Super Bowl and win it.

We can only think positively for next season, camarillo, don thomas and smiley are all back and hopefully we get some nice rookie and free agent talent. We have a tough schedule but here's to hoping for the best.

It's okay Chad we all make mistakes. It's not like he was playing a bad defense either. You know what else? If Ginn gets a handle on that end around we're talking about how Chad put those terrible plays behind him and led us back to win the game. I believe at that point (no doubt in my mind Ginn scores) there would have been so much momentum on our side and we end up pulling it out.

Yeah Pennington earned it, to think he came to this team with players who he never played with before and he lead us to an 11-5 record is pretty amazing. I liked the fact that he even tried to make the tackles on some of the picks he threw yesterday.

As the saying goes though, the fans and critics will always judge you by your last kick.....

I must admit I never could have predicted to becoming a Chad Pennington fan, for so many years I did not like him because he was a jet. But this year he won me over, his leadership and smart play got us all to start believing again. True the bad play last Sunday hit us all square in the chin, but reality is Chad was the reason why we were there. Chad wasn't alone with tears rolling down his cheeks after the humiliating loss. Chad I pray to see you back next year, maybe we can get a real number one receiver and so more help on defense and you can lead us to the promise land. Chad you are the man and I thank you for restoring my faith in the Dolphins.

    Jay Fiedler anyone?

He was pretty successful after Marino retired.

    :pity:

It's no surprise you, a Jet fan would bring him up.
Every fan of all the other AFC east teams loved him along with their team's defensive coordinators.

Chad's a pro and a class act. I honestly wish the game was closer than it was, because I know how hard he (and Miami) worked to get to the playoffs.
