According to a source close to the situation, Parcells’ loyalty to GM Jeff Ireland — who, coincidentally, was first hired as a scout in Kansas City by Peterson — coach Tony Sparano and many of the other coaches he brought to Miami is the primary reason he’s declining to exercise the gem of an out clause in his contract. “Those are his boys, and this (the Dolphins) is his legacy,” the source said. “He doesn’t want to hang them out to dry.”

“Those are his boys, and this (the Dolphins) is his legacy,” the source said. “He doesn’t want to hang them out to dry.”

    Could be.
and yet having chose Miami as the franchise with which to leave a legacy, is precisely why Peterson's presense was so unmistakably derisive.

    Or dare one say, offensive?

Since so much of this enduring dramalog is based on speculation, I'll throw my own hat of presumptive plausibility onto the steaming pile, with a couple recent excerpts from Peterson, the protagonist.

This strikes me as words from someone, who was indeed offered a position.
Words so artfully chosen to almost purposely reveal as much.

If the media could be so quick, and suseptible to"speculate", why wouldn't it have been just as natural for Parcell's to contemplate?

Seems to me Ross was either miffed at Parcell's brazen act of collusion with the news media, namely Mortensen, or he actually wanted to hire Peterson in some capacity.

Or, was he miffed at the percieved threat, and by some highly unlikely likelihood, elected to go on the offensive, by inviting his ol pal King Carl around, specifically to appear as a potential hire. A hire who happened to be, old friends with Jeff Ireland, who as chance would have it, currently happens to be Parcell's best friend.

A less than ideal exit strategy for an unfinished legacy, particularly when theres another potential retiree, who now appears to be seeking nothing more, than to settle into a cushy new throne, overseeing a ship nearly on autopilot, and maybe swing by the racetrack on lazy afternoons.

Perhaps “He doesn’t want to be hung out to dry.”?

As far as I know, the team hasn't been sold, the buyer may not be able to get the funds, and this "Gem of an out clause" doesn't even exist.

Wayne, Parcells: please, please, please, please stay in Miami and don't sell the rest of the team to a shady real estate developer. Please! :praying:

Ive been screaming my lungs out on this board since that P.O.S mortenson mentioned it, i read people well and i knew he was manufacturing a story for his own glory..

Parcells is smarter then all the media whores out there..he did'nt even give them the respect in responding to their garbage.. i just wish my fellow brothers and sisters didnt overreact so much and just READ THE AVATAR.

I would also like to add and have mentioned before that it was a very bad move by ross to entertain peterson at our home playoff game...what a bad business decision on his part amidst all the speculation of parcells. Tells me hes not on the pulse of the fans. his fault and he needs to be careful, revolutions can happen quickly in this business. Theres already a swell of negativity because of how he has handled or not handled the transition.

He needs to be open and honest with us...now i did hear that he said he loves parcells so iam gonna give the man the benefit of the doubt, but the perception is hes walking on some thin ice...just or unjust, he needs to be aware of it and act accordingly.

I wouldn't hang the media out to dry for this story. Whether or not Parcells spoke to Mort regarding the possibility of him excersising the out clause, the fact is, the clause was put there to assure Parcells that WH was sticking around. The terms of the deal are so sweet for Parcells, presumably because Parcells was hell bent on working for WH, that it would be naive to think he wasn't considering walking away with 12 million dollars. Anyone would.

The fact is, if the Dolphins are sold, none of us will be certain Parcells is returning until the end of that 30th day.

This is true. Parcells saying "I like it here" or whatever doesn't mean he can't change his mind on day 30.

But I disagree with criticizing the beat writers. The story concerning Peterson was pure speculation based on Peterson's long time association with Ross, a lapel pin and "a friend of a friend overheard Peterson saying 'we' with reference to the Dolphins". That's pretty damned flimsy stuff to publish articles suggesting Peterson could push Parcells out.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I am personally offended, deeply, when the media, with all their one-sided, unchallenged power to shape the thoughts of their audience, presents information that is wildly speculative and, in this instance, false. It's too common.

Report the clause i can accept..i dont know if you saw espn gameday, but mort and berman were turning it into a circus...berman saying " REALLY MORT..REALLY..PARCELLS ON THE MOVE AGAIN..HE HE HE..mort resonding..' DETROIT??..COULD BE'..

They spent 10 mins sensationalizing the subject..it was disgusting.

This team needs Parcells to stay. Ross will lose me if he boots Parcells for Peterson.
