The Eagles have two good corners in Asante Samuel and Sheldon Brown. Joselio Hansen has recently been getting more playing time as well begging the question: What do the Eagles do with him? I know there are those here who say that Sheppard is a bit of an overhyped corner but I don't think he's a slouch by any means. Do you think the Eagles keep him or trade him? And is there any chance he ends up in Miami? I'm not sure if I want him here or not. I do think the Eagles will try and move him after the season but I'm not sure who's biting, if anyone.
He is overhyped and he is a good player in my opinion. He's a good player when he's on the field. Problem is that he's always injured and has missed at least one game in five of seven seasons. I think he still is looking for a big deal from them but I don't see him getting it. I think they'll try to move him. I believe the Buccaneers and Saints were interested in his services last off-season, especially the Saints. There was a deal between the Eagles and Saints that would have a second rounder in exchange for Sheppard IIRC. They could still go after him. Randall Gay is still a third cornerback IMO and they gave him money to be a number two. Mike McKenzie isn't getting any younger and he's had some knee operations done. I know they like Tracey Porter, as do I. He's a nice player who I thought played pretty darn well in the pre-season. They've got the project going with Usama Young and I can't speak on his play this season; he did look pretty good in pre-season though.
He's certainly not a slouch and can be moved for a decent pick. I just think with Samuel having a 5 year contract and S.Brown being the monster hitter he is that Sheppard is a goner. He will go somewhere and if he can get on the field (he should be able to barring injuries) he will be a good corner for them. The only way I am picking him up is if he is the final cog in the wheel to make a run for the playoffs otherwise I'm drafting a guy; unless this draft isn't deep in corners?
The problem with a guy like Shepherd is he still thinks it is 3 years ago, and he is a All Pro...and so do the Eagles... I'd pass.
I might if the price is too high. But overrated or not, he'd still be an upgrade over Goodman even if Goodman was playing well for a bit.
This year is shaping up to be a decent corner draft, but not as good as last year's. The 2009 draft class' strengths appear to be at OT, RB, and along the defensive line, with CB worse than last year but WR better than last year.
Sheppard, not Shepherd, was in the Pro Bowl just two years ago. He was also All-NFC in 2006, but 4 years since his one All Pro season. That said, he is a darned talented and skilled cover corner IMO, and I'd take him if the price wasn't too high.
Ill pass, hes been declining imo. Theres a reason hes been seeing alot of the Eagles bench, and that they were shopping him around.
I agree but I think the injuries are a concern and I think that's the reason he wouldn't be a Miami Dolphin. Also, what's the price tag on him? Second rounder? That's what I read last off-season and that is way to high IMO.
I feel this way too...you would think if they wanted to move him they would show him off a little more. And if he is this good why don't they play him? good corners are hard to find and if you have one you play him.
Kinda hard when you have Samuel and Brown w/Hansen stepping in for the third for most of the latter part of the year. For a while they were splitting time between he and Hansen but they obviously liked Hansen a little more because he's been playing more.
They were trying to trade him last year but couldn't move him cuzzz they want a very high draft pick for him , not a 3rd sting QB.
