oh yeah, its those darn SEC defenses. Then why is the typical SEC conference game a shootout in the 40's and 50's of points. You guys cant even stop each other from scoring. Make it a fair NC game at a neutral site, and I dont see LSU gaining all that momentum before halftime. That home field advantage was crucial. oh, and lets just say "the stars were aligning" penalty wise. I'm not saying that LSU isnt possible of doing that on a neutral site, I'm just saying it wouldn't have been as likely. Homefield advantage benefits the defense of the home team in a huge way. The crowd noise can take over a game at points, especially in the Super Dome. So don't give me that crap about how dominant the LSU defense is, when they had many unfair advantages in that game. The truth is, SEC defenses are pathetic at best. They fold to even mediocre offenses on a regular basis. Imagine the Dolphins defense, but in college football. Look how horrible Travis Daniels, and Jason Allen are. Granted that Allen is progressing, but he isnt being blown away by Cromartie who was drafted two picks behind him. SEC defenses put up Dolphins like numbers every week. Thats not a good thing.

This discussion shouldn't just be about Ohio State, it is about the whole Big Ten. Two years in a row they have had a horrible bowl record, Michigan looses to Appalachian State and two years in a row OSU gets embarressed in the national championship game. As a conference they are on tough times.

On the positive side with their huge stadiums, large alumni bases, and big dollars they are going out and getting great young coaching talent, guys like Zook at ILL., Tagliaferro (sic) at MSU and Rodriguez at UM. There are good HS programs in these states and the pendelum will swing.

With folks like USF going into the Big East, and burgeoning programs at UCF, FAU, Troy, etc and South Alabama adding football, the talent pool in the south has a greater chance of dilution than in the midwest where the MAC will not draw with regularity the borderline BCS players that Conference USA can.

The cycle will shift but for now, the "Big Ten" is truly the "Slow Eleven".

So, we should assume by "neutral site" and "fold all the time" you are only referring to THIS season, right?

well when USC is consistently playing in the Rose Bowl, and LSU has played in the NO for a bowl game 3 times in the past 5 years so there is a case for that.

Michigan regained some respect beating Florida in the bowl. Big Ten is the Slow Eleven? Its not speed its coaching. Ohio ST has been outcoached 2 years running now in Bowl games.

Neutral Site...? Well, I guess we should scrap the Rose Bowl cause USC keeps winning too!

His post didn't have anything to do with USC or LSU in general terms. It was purely excuses for OSU losing, and trying to knock SEC defenses.

Big difference between 10 years and the 3 years in advance that schedules are made.

Face the facts, your team got outplayed and outcoached. Get over it.

This is a big reason OSU fans get such a bad rep.

Do the numbers 41-14 mean anything to you? And last time i checked, that game was played at a neutral site. Dude, I am not saying Ohio State sucks - far from it. I'm just saying the SEC defenses that they've faced have given them trouble. Its right there, black and white. I'm not citing every SEC vs. SEC game from this year, and i'm not listing individuals who are on our team that came from the SEC. I'm talking SEC right now, versus your team. please stop making excuses about home field, etc... while home field advantage might be advantageous when the QB is calling audibles or false starts, the crowd has little to nothing to do with Ohio State protecting the ball in the redzone.

I'll repeat that i think the SEC is a stronger conference overall than the Big 10... As such, with more potent offenses, you'll have more scoring. Citing the scoring between intra-conference SEC games is a poor defense for you IMO - especially among the top SEC teams which have offensive powerhouses.

Here are the scores from the non-conference games LSU played this year:
Virginia Tech - LSU won 48-7
Middle Tennessee - LSU won 44-0
    Tulane - LSU won 34-9
Louisiana Tech - LSU won 58-10

not saying these are tough opponents, but you see a pattern here with that SEC defense against other conferences.... the score of the BCS championship game is not as much a blowout, but the score still tells the same story.... 38-24, and that last TD Ohio State had was a garbage time touchdown. You watched the game, did you not think that LSU's defense had ANYthing to do with forcing those turnovers? The only real mistake that LSU's D made all game was allowing that huge run from Wells.

I'm not really that passionate about this, so i don't know why i'm doing the research or arguing about it, but i just think its the facts. If you really want to take this further, we can always look back at that 41-14 game and analyze that defensive performance.
