I've been in favor of Chris Long from the beginning of this debate.

I understand Dorsey is a great player.
I just think Top DE's are more valuable and that the talent falls off much more at that position as you drop down rounds while you still can pick up big bodies that can play at a high level in later rounds at DT. Besides that, I just believe Long is the better player personally bottom line.

I saw someone say he won't be a good 3-4 DE.
Isn't that what he's been playing?

I've seen the guy play outside the tackle, inside the tackles, 3 point, 2 point, dropping into coverage, splitting double teams on the inside, etc. The guy has shown he can do it all.

Long is a monster that can create havoc on every play whether it be pass or run.

Assuming we're drafting for the eventual move to the 3-4:

Personally I don't think Dorsey is going to play the NT in the 3-4, except maybe on passing downs, we'll end up getting another large body for that position. Essentially we'll be deciding whether he or Long is the better player for the same position in the 3-4.

Against the run, I would take Dorsey over Long.

Against the pass, I would take Long over Dorsey, but from what I've seen of Dallas's defense, the players that they use in disrupting the passing game is the OLB/DE position, and I don't see Long playing LB on a regular basis.

Chris played quite well that game actually.

BTW did you really need to start yet another thread on Long when there are plenty of others to choose from?

That's your opinion and thats fine.
If we don't pick him and the Jets who are rumored to have high interest do, you'll be able to see what the big deal is twice a year against us.

Personally I think he's the best player in the draft.

I hope you're joking... if we don't get him and the Jets do I think this will be a decision the organization will regret for a loooong time.

Trading down a few spots would be ideal. I hope we can do it. C.Long Gholston and Laurinitis one of them will still be there should we trade down to the 5-10 spots, and we still get to pick up an extra pick.

If we can't trade down, i'd take Chris Long or even Gholston over Dorsey.

I seriously doubt Chris would be there if traded down out of the top 4. With that being said, if we could somehow land Gholston and Connor/or Laurinitis in the first I would be absolutely ecstatic.

If his point was to try and discredit Long's talent then he should have atleast spent time looking for a video where Chris looked average to bad or even had an off game.

Absolutely he did. He was a threat on every single, solitary down. He gave the tackles fits. A couple of clips on You Tube is hardly indicative of overall skills.

Plays nice? He's easily the most dominating force we can get on defense. If we don't land him then I'm hoping for Gholston, either one of them will be solid.

You guys are selling Dorsey way short. He is arguably a more dominating force than Long.

I would be happy with Long or Dorsey at #1...contrary to many's opinions around here they are both definitely #1 worthy.

Gholston is only a trade down option to me. He does fit our defense, but I don't see him as an extraordinary talent in the vein of a Dorsey or Long.

I'm not selling him short at all, I love Dorsey. But looking at this team, and regardless of where he played in college, I just don't see us drafting him for our 3-4. If we do draft him I will be just as happy as when we took Ginn. Fact is I will be happy if we draft any of them, but I think Long and Gholston are the frontrunners.

Agreed bro. Any of those 3 would be fine picks, but I'd rather Gholston or Long instead of Dorsey at #1 overall.

Gil Brandt is speculating that Dorsey may drop to fifth or so due to his knee problems. Compares it to Peterson and his shoulder last year.

pretty stupid since dorsey came back in the same game from that injury, and he has only missed 1 game EVER, while AD had missed time 2 seasons in a row

Ask the Vikings if that was a bad deal ....

And thats even assuming any of this injury stuff is true. ATM it seems a load of crap and rumors. Yeah, he got a bit beat up this year, but most players have those seasons. He came back and played well though, doesnt seem to have lingering issues, not sure where people are getting them from.

I think we need to make sure we use the fully allotted time with our first overall pick at the draft....I guess it is ten minutes per pick in the first round?.....hopefully the Tuna can work the phones and we can get some extra picks for our first.

If not, I don't think we could go wrong with either Dorsey or Little Howie Long.....we just have to make sure we check to make sure the guys we are interested in are healthy. I think we could have 5+ draft picks who could be starters for us in 2008. If we can trade a few vets for some more picks I am all for this too.

After the Daunte fiasco I wouldn't trust our medical staff to do a flu shot.

    ...But Dorsey's knee is fine.

They are both great players, but I like Dorsey in this spot. Defensive tackles with that kind of athleticism are rare. At best, we are talking about a Warren Sapp, worst case scenario would be Russell Maryland. And I think he is much better than Maryland. Dorsey has great quickness, and would be a good leader and anchor on a good defense. He's just a piece, mind you, but he would be a great leader and anchor for this defense. You'd still have to surround him with big athletic rushers, but Dorsey would be a good start.

I think Goff at 6'4 240 would be another good day one pick for Miami and another guy that fits what Parcells, Ireland, Gaines, and Sparano will want.
