So I go to take my government exam today, first let me tell you about that class. Our teacher doesn't really "teach" us information in my opinion. Rather, he writes an outline of notes on the board on the chapter we are studying and gives us a packet of worksheets and questions to do before the test. We don't correct these questions or worksheets before the test either. So he passed out a study guide last Thursday and he was going to give us back all the tests we've taken this year so we could fill in our study guide. Well we end up getting school canceled on Friday so we don't get to use the tests at all, so we have to try and find all these scatted answers in the book. Finding all 75 answears took me hours, and I studied them and I was pretty sure that I would do good. Well, we get into class today and the big moment comes for us to take our exam, and he has barely anything on the study guide on the exam. So I struggled through it, and at the end of the hour he reads off our score. I got a 57%!!!!! So in our school our 1st and 2nd quarter grades are worth 80% of your cumulative grade (40% for each quarter) and then the exam 20%. So 1st quarter I got a D+ and 2nd quarter I got a C- and now I got an E on the exam. So I'm looking at probably having a D or D+ as my cumlitive grade in Government.
That's why you get good grades and attendance, and you don't even have to take the exams. That's what I do every year. EDIT: And I don't study much unless its five minutes before the test itself lol.
Really? That's stupid. In my school, if you get a 2.0 GPA, don't get in trouble, don't miss any assignments and only miss three days, you don't have to take them.
My daughter in grammer school gets E's, they are excellent, S is satisfactory But I never heard of an E in High School
I've heard it for pre-k and kindergarden too but never high school. I'm guessing its like an F since he got a 57%?
All I know is I don't want one, taking 18 credits this semester, I started today and I already have a ton of work
Yeah I know dude. Here, in Brighton you can have a 4.0, miss no school, no assignments and still be forced to take the exam.
Ick! I don't miss those days. What I would always do is give it 2 or 3 weeks, then you can figure out which assingments to complete and which ones to skip. Which profs want you to read and which like to hear themselves talk, etc. Good luck!
Wait till you reach college and later entrance exams. The one I'm studying for, MCAT, is roughly 6 hours long and the curve is nasty. Miss a few questions out of 70 in the biology section and it's game over. I sorta miss high school exams now.
It ain't a matter of passing, it's all about beating the other Asians. And I'm fearful my South American heritage would come and bite me there.
Straz, I realize not now, but some day this will be a life lesson. I know that you feel slighted now, but turn that around next semester and make better quarter grades. We've all been through difficult teachers and bosses, and most have survived and thrived. Best of luck to you.
Instead of studying you were in here debating Ted Ginn last night and ignoring all efforts to get you to stop and go study. Don't come in here complaining about something you could have improved with effort. I have little patience for those that do not take responsibilty for their own inactions and then act the victim..
hater................ yeah man like i tell most. learn from it, suck it up, and move on. Always learn from it though, as I don't want a whole semesters worth of these threads
and fyi if your teacher is bad, learn how to interact with him/her, get used to it, because professors/teachers in college will vary greatly as well. And you will have to communicate, it doesn't make you an *** kisser to try your hardest and ask the teacher, what you can do to improve.
Good point. I was failing the **** out of Calculus my freshman year of college. I got much worse than a 57 on a test. I went to his office, sat down with him, and talked to him about. He tried to show me what I did wrong and how I could fix it. I got a D in the class. But I probably should have failed. I think showing that I cared helped. Same thing with grad school. My first midterm last semester I made a 75. I talked to my professor, went over my mistakes, and he told me to be sure and get a 95 on the final. He emailed me the day after the 3 hour final (we also had to do a 15 page paper along with the final, I long for the days of high school homework) and said he admired the way I worked towards getting a 93 on my final. It probably helped my overall grade that I went to talk to him on a number of occasions.
sucks straz, but marty makes a good point. when i took ap gov back in high school, our teacher acknowledged that exams were dumb, so she'd give us a multiple choice take home exam that we could work with others on. never needed to though because every answer was always C. she figured, half the people were planning on taking the ap exam, the other half weren't. so why bother forcing people to learn how to test if they weren't going to anyway. (really dumb way for a teacher to think but it was AWESOME for us.). she also would let you sleep if you had an valid excuse (like if you had practice late the night before) and would let you turn in all your hw assignments at the end of the semester for full credit. best teacher ever
And at worst, talk to fellow students if the professor/teacher really isn't approachable (there will be some but few). I'm sure there's gotta be at least one guy doing well in the class that you can pick his brain apart.
Sounds like my experience as a History major. Like others have said network in college that is for sure.
yeah plus study groups are a great way to meet girls, but seeing as how straz already tied himself to the porch
So I am guess ing goverment is not your best subject.................. Dont worry I sucked at it last year.
What at your school you dont have to take exams if you have god attendence and good grades. Man if I was at your school I would never have to take exams. I dont study either.
