If TJ Houshmandzadeh is not tagged by Cincinnati this year, I think Miami will go after him, and sign him. Signing TJ would fill an immediate need, making us deep at WR. He fits the mold of WR that Pennington needs. TJ brings size, speed, and great route running. He is a great possesion receiver like Camarillo, but also offers a better verticle dimension. He would be expensive, but we can afford it. We should sign him to a long term deal with a frontloaded contract, like the one the Colts gave Dallas Clark. It would allow for us to absorb the cap hit now, during the building process. Then down the road TJ is playing for cheap, and we wouldnt lose anything by cutting him.

    Thoughts?

Whosyermamma fits the bill for me...

But I think signing him would probably mean that we could not re-sign Carey and Crowder... I think they really want to keep Carey, but he's gonna cost...however, if we lose Crowder, then they have to entertain a Bart Scott type ILB to replace Crowder thru FA... I don't think that Crowder is the worst we could do at ILB, but I also don't think his talent is the ideal of what Tunaland and co. wants at that position. Scott is a little smaller, but certainly more productive...I am not too familiar with any other up and commers that will be FAs at the ILB spot...

There are some options in the draft at ILB, but my guess is that they want to tie up loose ends and upgrades in FA and then use the draft to groom their own guys...

Whosyermamma would look pretty good in a Fins uni though...coupled with Ginn and Cam/Bess/London....hmmm....interesting...

If we could sign TJ, Carey, Bell, and Crowder, it would be OK. Our WR's are OK now, and there are bigger holes to fill, so if it came down to TJ and a stud LB, or Carey, I'd pass.

Defense should come first IMO. It'd be really nice to have Housh here, but I'd rather see that money spent on someone like Dansby, Scott, Atagwe, etc. who is still young and going to be here for a long time.

Housh is out for a bigger payday then he's worth. I wouldn't wana blow all or most of our FA budget on him.

Parcells 'teams' dont generally have huge name wide outs. . When building a team you start from the inside out. .
    Interior line, outwards. .
Jake Long was a great anchor at LT I feel we need to do something with the C position Satele struggled there.

I feel that if we can strengthen the O line so we can open decent gaps for R & R with the current talent on the receiving corps we will be fine. . although by the time Henne comes in to play in 2010/2011 we will need that deep threat. . depends how Ginn develops in that time. .

We also need a decent pass rush and some secondary work.
Porter needs a partner and Bart Scott or Dansby could be good choices.
Besides Porter is knocking on and will need to be replaced within 2 years or so . . grooming is needed for a new star.

    Live from the Internet.
After the things I read, looks like Channing isnt coming back. Good or bad, but he isnt. THat leaves us with Carey and Bell as a must. Now Im not sure how much cap space we have left. TJ is 31 (turns 32 in september) That leaves us with 3 solid years, bearing any injuries. I don't think he will be THAT expensive. Don't get me wrong, Im sure he will have a nice price tag, but some people make him out to be Randy Moss. Im sure if our front office will make up their mind, and decide to pursue him, they WILL sign him, and I do believe we will have enough cap space to sign a 'backer (Bart Scott, Thuggs...) Point is, I think we have enough cap sapce to sign a solid reciever, and a linebacker. IMHO don't think we will be signing both, I think it will either be a backer or a reciever and we will continue to build through the draft.

Boldin > Houshmanzadeh IMHO. But if we can have Housh much cheaper, then giddy up.

I wonder how good TJ will be away from Cincy when defenses will be keying in on him and not having to worry about Chad Johnson. Not sure I spend the type of money that he'll be looking for.

Well said. I also think the defense is a greater need. Dansby, Suggs, OJ, etc first... then a TJ/Boldin.

Teams won't be keying in on him as much with Ted Ginn on the other side. You can't forget about Teddy and his big play ability.

If the price is right, I'm all for it. TJ, Ginn, Camarillo, Bess, Fasano, Martin, Ronnie, Ricky, Cobbs. That would be one hell of an offense.

This is a good sign in my opinion if we do get him. Id prefer a big physical down feild threat but with TJ our depth would be pretty great.

Thing is he's looking for young Zach Thomas money, and a young Zach Thomas he is not.

He's good but not that good that he can't be replaced.

And I love how everyone says "our WR group is weak". When we all know damn well that if we signed a Boldin or a Houshmandzadeh our receiving core would look GREAT.

That's all it would take. One player to change everything.

I mean I enjoyed watching that offense this year. But it didn't scare anyone. If it weren't for the wildcat creating plays/confusion, our offense lacked in talent in comparison to other great teams. I think we have a decent core, but adding a big receiver would be nice to compliment all those little guys. I have also always liked TE Brandon Pettigrew. Big tall WR Kevin Britt from Rutgers would be nice. Regardless who, I would rather draft our talent then trade for it.

Unfortunately, I am out here in cardinals bandwagon land, but one thing Arizona has done is drafted pretty well. Fitz 2004 and Boldin 2003 were great picks! Just looked at their last 6 or so drafts, and they have basically drafted all of their current talent.

Like I said in the other thread I just don't see it happening. I doubt that this team spends that kind of money in FA that Housh is asking for. Especially when you consider that Carey, Crowder, Bell, and Hill are FAs that need to be addressed.

Others seem to have their heart set on Dansby. I think he'll be franchised by Arizona. Others say Bart Scott but he could wind up in New York with Rex Ryan or stay in Baltimore if the rumors are true of the Cowboys wanting Ray Lewis. Same thing applies to TJ. He may not even make it out of Cincy.

Anything anyone posts at this point is purely speculation and no one's opinion is more "valid" than anothers. I just find it hard to believe that this team sinks that kind of money into the WR position when there are bigger needs in more important positions (nose tackle, pass rushing linebackers and interior o-linemen)

I agree about Housh. Signing him to the kind of contract he wants is putting all your eggs in one basket x100. I just don't see the logic in it and I don't see our FO ever validating a move like that. Jerry Jones might though.

Unfortunately, I also think there's a strong possibility that your right about Dansby. The only thing I can really see preventing him being franchised is if they use the tag on Warner, which wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. Or possibly blowing a ton of money on resigning Warner and giving Boldin more money. However, I think everyone saw that their offense can do just fine without Boldin these last few weeks.

 I can only hope they drag their feet on Dansby, don't franchise him, and give us enough time to talk to him. Kind of a pipe dream at this point.

This is a common perception IMO, our recievers are not as bad as they are made out to be. I think we lack a number one WR, but I think we have a solid 2 in Ginn. I think we have a solid 3-4 in Camarillo and Bess. Unless Ginn steps his route running up he is going to be nothing more than the deep threat. But with a solid number one WR that threat is a great asset. Then you will have Fasano/ Bess/Camarillo working the middle and underneath and it doesnt look to bad.

At this point, Boldin isn't technically available...he's under contract for another two years...Arizona will want an arm and leg for him once the SB is over, win or lose...

I would'nt take him strait up for any of our top three, our guys have to much upside..so i dont want him taking playing time away from them.

now if you wanna talk an Anquan boldin or hakeem from north carolina, iam all ears.

I really think our top three even london, have such potential,i mean Greg C was playing like a young Fred Biletnikoff before he went down, davone bess is relentless and is the black wes welker, and ted ginn keeps getting better and better. The london kid has got some serious potential as well.

I dont know about all this brother but will you give me some damn respect so i can get off this 99 rep thing, its killing me man..lol

No offense brother, but Ted Ginn isn't yet as talented as Chad Johnson. :wink2:

Ginn can stretch the defenses with his speed when utilized properly, but with Pennington behind center no opposing defense is going to fear the long ball, greatly reducing the impact that Ginn can have. In Cincy TJ was always the #2 WR, yes teams needed to keep an eye on him because he's talented, but it was Johnson who was commanding the most attention because he's one of the top WR's in the game based on his talent, his attitude.....not so much. Ginn doesn't command that type of attention yet, he may never reach the level of a Johnson, Fitzgerald, Moss, etc, I think he can be at least as good as Chris Chambers with the abilty to be even better, but I don't think he's going to be a top 5 player at his position.

So if we were able to sign TJ to a large deal this offseason, he would be looked at as the #1 and he'd be the one receiving the doubleteam's and attention. I don't think he'll be as effective and I don't think it's worth it, JMO though. I'd rather look to the draft to find a WR, our group of WR's needs a big red zone target, a role that Wilford was supposed to fill. I would rather find a player to fill that role than throw funny money around to a guy that I'm not sure is a true #1 WR.

If Boldin can be had for a 2nd rounder or combination of picks spread over 2 years, I do it, but like you said it probably isn't going to happen. Another name to keep an eye on (maybe) is Braylon Edwards who was unhappy in Cleveland back in December and who is coming off a down year, although Cleveland may not want to move him with the hiring of Mangini. But again, that's a price/benefit question that would need to be answered and may prove to be too much.

I think the draft or mid level FA signing is the way to go. I would love to get a guy like Nicks who I know alen is very high on, cross your fingers and spread some rumors so he drops to us in the 2nd round. :pointlol: I also wouldn't mind another chance at Bryant Johnson, he would fill that need for a big target and he's a good blocker and would come relatively cheap.

I'm not sure we will spend the money in F/A to get personnel on the offensive side unless its an offensive lineman aka Gross possibly. I see Miami looking at a player like Bart Scott on the defensive side of the ball if anything.
