Okay I got this game because of all the talk on here about it. I am not the greatest at these kind of games, but I can't even make it across the river after I leave Megatron without dying? Also, I have no weapon, no caps..how do you get these items? And why would I want to steal a knife, coffee cup, plate, etc.. I know, very novice questions here..sorry but I just don't get this game. I'll just go back to Madden, lol.
Play it for a few hours...the game is so big that your not really going to think much of it after only 2 hours. Also, i would recommend exploring a little before you start the main quest. From level 1-8 you're most likely going to have problems finding caps and ammo. Maybe health. If i remember correctly you get a gun in the vault so you should have one right away. Plus there is the BB gun which i know isn't good but it is something. But if you explore houses you might find some better weapons. As for stealing items the ones you listed don't really have much value. Well, unless you are stressing for caps and then i guess you can sell them. I don't think i ever stole anything small like that though.
downloadable content the new way to release 'sequels'- i.e. make you pay 30 bucks for another 2 hour long sidequest. but yet, it works
haha i understand where you're coming from bro. its certainly not a game for the easily bored/distracted type. these kind of rpg's are for people who stress about exploring areas, opening every box/door/cabinet, etc. it's not a game where its like "ok i killed this guy. i gotta go here next and kill this boss and get this item".. a lot more of freeform playing. but like others have said, the game gets more and more fun as you play. if you're really not digging it after 5-10 hours though, it may not be for you.
I beat Fable 2 the other day, so I bought this on a whim today while in Best Buy. Got the Collector's Edition (Lunchbox) for the same price as the game itself ... I've played for over 3 hours and barely made it to the radio station. It's a game that really seems to lend itself to a slower pace, and constant exploration. It's also more of a challenge than Fable was ... I've already died a couple of times at the hands of raiders. I'm loving it so far, but it's expansive ... almost overwhelmingly so.
bro i've been playing the game for like 15 -20 hours and still haven't gone to the radio station haha
Well I played alot this weekend and Spoiler FATHER NO!!!!!! spent all that time finding him and didn't get to stay together long, now I am off to find a G.E.C.K. in vault 87.
Things advance pretty quickly once you get into vault 87. And if you're like me and do not want to beat the game for the sake of more exploration - then don't start the last quest "Take it Back" until you're ready to end the game. In other words - don't agree to follow Lyons "Pride" just yet. You'll see. I won't sat anymore. On another note - I'm downloading Operation Anchorage as we speak. I still havent completed Fallout 3 - there are a few more side quests I'm interested in and I'm almost to level 20.
Thanks for the tip, I was wondering which was the last mission cause I did want to make sure I did all the side quests and explored as much as possible, but I think when I finish I am going to go evil next time around.
Thanks for the advice. I thinking I'm approaching this quest and have decided to lay off for a while. I also want to get to 20 before I end the game. Anybody else have a hard time keeping allies alive? I've gotten Sydney killed going after the constitution, that girl from the Citadel was killed on the way somewhere, and yesterday I found a dog in a junkyard that I adopted and he was killed by a giant scorpion before I hardly had time to notice he was there.
LOL!! It only happens with Dogmeat (the dog) with me and I'm starting to get pretty annoyed. I end up having to revert back to the last save because I do like having him around. His growl alerts me of upcoming trouble. The only other follower I have is Fawkes and he kicks major *** with his gatling like laser gun. I got him before I went for the constitution with Sidney (who's a horny little whore by the way) and she survived. I'm almost to level 20 and with Fawkes the game has gotten a little too easy so Ive had to ramp up the difficulty. Fawkes cracks me up with his laugh and screams.
Fawkes and Charon are the best people to have follow you. And then finding dogmeat so that you can have 2 followers. but sometimes he dies a little to easily
I noticed i still have quite a few side missions that haven't been completed, do you just explore until you run into whoever mskes them start?
You can and thats probably the most fun way of doing it. Or you can go online and look at some walkthroughs to see who and where you have to go to trigger the quest.
Fawkes is a mutant you meet.. Spoiler in Vault 87. When you rescue him from captivity in the quest Finding the Garden of Eden, he'll help you out for the remainder of the quest and then leave your party. You'll be able to recruit him once again if you have good karma when he comes to rescue you from Raven Rock.
Have put about an hour into the DLC so far and ... Spoiler When you start the game and load it - you pick up a radio signal that carries a distress signal from brotherhood outcasts and you get a map marker once you get there you end up in a simulation that takes place in Alaska. My lvl is maxed at 20 and im not gaining any XP. Theres no ammo or stimpaks to be used rather these health regenerators and ammo replenishers scattered throughout the level.. Wasn't the level cap raised to 30???
There's 2 more DLC that are coming out ... the Cap level raise to 30 won't be until the last one is released in early March. EDIT: DLC link can be found here Oh, and I've now played for just over 6 hours and I'm completely hooked. love that the game can be played at such a leisurely pace.
Be careful bro - it was right around the 10 hour mark that the game almost took over my life. I'd be at work thinking about the game non stop reading every article or blog or forum not blocked by my companies firewall. You said it best when you stated the game was a bit overwhelming at first - once you get over that - you just begin to soak it all in.
A little warning for those that get the DLC that just came out. You want to finish "You Gotta Shoot'em in the head" quest before you play it. I got excited for the new stuff so i jumped into it with out beating that quest and then once i beat the update it said i also finished Shoot'em in the head. Not very happy about that.
Thanks bro!! I was going to start again anyway so I can find al the Intel and get the Special Ops perk. I'll make sure to do this one now.
Speaking of "Shoot em in the head" quest, was anyone able to get Mr. Crowley to give you the keys, or take you on the mission with him? I couldn't, so now Im just following the guy through the wasteland hoping he'll take me to the building. I forgot the name of it now. Anyways, that guy is one bad dude, I don't even have to take out enemies, him and his scoped .44 are a deadly combo. Anyway, I've followed this guy for so long, I just want to shoot him, take the keys, and if I come across the building, so be it, I'll have the keys.
so i started exploring around the republic of dave today, and my game got really glitchy.. the screen started turning purple and different colors and i couldn't see anything. but like when i went into a house/the museum it was okay. but the wasteland area outside of it seems real effed up. anyone heard of this happening before?
Finally started Fallout 3 this weekend and it's consuming my life. Amazing game. Is the downloadable content available on PS3 or only Xbox 360? If it is available on PS3, where do I go to download it? If you add a bobblehead to your display case in your house, do you still get the perk? I swear I'm not getting medicine bonuses after I put that on there.
I killed every slaver in Paradise Falls. I just marched into the town and annilhated them. God I love this game. My karma is through the roof. It's going to be interesting to start a new game and see how the evil route works out. This is one of the few games that's actually a bargain at 60 bucks.
Damn. That really sucks. So my next question, if I were to break down and buy the game for my 360, would I have to pay for Xbox live to get the DLC or just the one time fee? If the answer is yes to needing Xbox Live, then I'll do without. Screw Microsoft for being greedy bastards and Sony for not having it.
Silver membership is free and you usually get the same downloads, just can't play with others online.
I figure with Microsoft that's a given. I don't know if I'll get the Xbox version. I'll see how I feel once finishing the game on PS3. I might just replay it on that. BTW, I'm really bummed out that I wasted 3 perks on Swift Learner now that I know levels cap at 20. When I think of all the other awesome perks I coulda had. But at least this knowledge kept me from wasting one on the 'Here and Now' perk.
Got the keys and went to Ft Constantine to get the armor which also completed the "you gotta shoot em in the head quest". It's effin sweet.
How exactly do you "train" for power armor? I don't see it listed as a perk. I really want to use all the power armor I come across.
you have to talk to one of the paladins at the Citadel...that's it. Basically once you get there just ask everyone about wearing power armor and they'll tell you to talk to some guy and then he'll train you.
