From what I've heard from most people, I'm wasting my money if I don't get the 360 with the 20gig hard drive.

Does everyone agree with this or is the arcade decent? I'm mostly trying to play games like Fallout and Call of Duty or Halo.

If anyone also has any idea what store or site has the system for the cheapest, thatd be great too. Some people have told me Ebay, but I could just see getting the thing for a great price and having it **** the bed in a month and me being out of luck.

    Thanks a lot.

It depends really. If you want to get DLC with whatever games you get, you ARE wasting your money with the Arcade. The 256MB card is not enough to hold anything worthwhile other than patches. If you are going to get a game like Rock Band or something like that, a hard drive is a must, unless you are satisfied only with the music it comes with (then you might as well get the ps2 version for cheaper!). Also, if you are ever going to use the Movie download service XBL offers or download any Arcade games, a HD is a must. I have the Elite, and love it.

    hmm i like that idea.

the arcade is pointless. unless you're just going to play every once in awhile. But if you are going to play 5 to 10 hours a week then you want to get the middle one(pro?)

Yea I think the Pro one is the one with 20GB and that's generally around $300. I haven't seen it cheaper anywhere else unfortunately.

Do any of you who own an Xbox know if there is a direct warranty with Microsoft when you bought your system? Or is it only a store warranty?

go pro, get the hard drive... without it, your options are pretty limited when it comes to playing games with lots of saves... the extra cash for the HD is worth it

Thanks man, how long is it for?

    I found this: http://www.mrbdepot.com/XBOX-Premium-Pro-20-GB-_p_28.html

and according to the website, all their products are bought in bulk from the companies so I'm assuming it's new right now.

Is the 20GB a solid buy?

    A couple of things bro:

#1. Quick tip if you can find the deal. As we all should know, Circuit City is closing.

BUT if your lucky, your CC may have the 120 GIG HD on sale for cheap and still in stock.

Grab that (120 HD) and an XBOX 360 Arcade and you'll have the Elite for much cheaper than what you'd have paid for the Elite. All you'll need to find are the HDMI cable since the Arcade doesnt come with that. But for the money you'll save its still worth it. Again though it might be hard to get that 120 HD for cheap.

#2. If you want to make sure you dont get an old board that will crap out fast, read this Forum thread well [http://forums.xbox.com/24344540/ShowPost.aspx]and find out what you need to look for to get yourself an XBOX 360 with a Jasper Board so that you can game with more confidence.

    Here's an excerpt:

    What is a Jasper console?

Jasper is the latest revision of Xbox 360. Although the console does not physically look any different, the PSU (power supply) has changed, as well as the GPU die size. The PSU is now 150W (as apposed to 175W with Falcon) and the GPU is now 65nm. With this revision the 360 is now a full 65nm console, with both the CPU and GPU die size being 65nm.

You get a direct warranty from M$ if you bought it new. Some stores also offer extended warranties. Normally, I don't recommend em but for the 360, I kinda have to.

Could be out of stock by then. I know the ones in my area are even out of PS2's.

I wish you lived near me. I have a 20 GB Xbox 360 with 2 wireless controllers and like 4 games. I just bought it on Black Friday and never play it. I would have given you the whole package for like $275. Let me know if your traveling to Florida anytime soon lol.

Dammit I got logged out and had this whole thing written up...

OK I am not going to write it all out again but just real quick bro...

I definitely would get a 360 with an HD. Either together or seperately but I would definitely have a HD with the 360.

Remember that the 20 gig consoles are no longer distributed (anything out there is old stock). Now they are 60 gig. So you have the Arcade, the 'PRO' (60 gig) and the Elite (120 gig).

Now, I suggest getting it locally through a retailer that you can check your stuff before hand, or take it back and exchange it for the console you want (with the board you want)....like Best Buy for example. You can also wait and see if a good deal pops up. They had some decent ones during the holidays. Now I think BB has one where you get a 40 gift card if you get the console + a second controller.

Online, its much more difficult to do that, if at all. Although there are some good deals thorugh Dell right now if your going with a reputable online dealer: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/category.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&category_id=6390&~ck=bt

In the end, just do what you feel is best for you. I am just picky as hell about this stuff.

I appreciate it all man. What I was thinking of doing (and please tell me if you think this'll work), is getting the 360 Arcade now with a good warranty and then waiting for a sale on that 120 gig drive and then adding that later on.

Right now, I'm only really wanting an Xbox to play Fallout 3. Would the arcade be good enough for that now? Eventually I'd like to get into COD and Halo online.

gamestop offers a refurbished 360 pro (with a 20 gig hdd) for 250. Refurbished ones come to gamestop directly from Microsoft and microsoft gives a warranty for a year on them as well. I know gamestop is evil and all that jazz, but getting that warranty along with the HDD is probably worth the extra 50 over the arcade.

However, the arcades not such a bad deal, but its useless for most the fatures that the xbox offers. I don't suggest waiting for a 120 gg hdd to go on sale though. You don't need 120 gigs. Ive had my xbox for 3 years and im still using my original 20 gig hdd. The only reason to go after the 120 gig is if you wanna start downloading and saving movies to your harddrive.

In all seriousness though, if your heart is set on Xbox 360 just make sure it has HDMI connectivity. Some of the older models don't have it. Makes a big difference in the picture if you're playing on an HD TV.

you definately need the hard drive. by the time you add a memory card to, toss in another 20 bucks. now you are only talking a 30 difference. I am sure the Mor's dad could loan you that.

IMO if you have the money go with the elite. Had mine for over 3 years now with no issues, good system and gobs of storage for anything you might need.

Tip for any large purchases if you can get them at a place like Target or Best Buy, sign up for the credit cards those stores offer, can often get a decent % taken off your purchase. Knocked $50 off mine back when I bought it.

Also a tip for any seeking "clearance" deals at places like circuit city. The inventory will often be marked up heavily for an original price, then have a huge sale sticker slapped over it. If you ever wonder how 40% off a game only nets you like $5 price differential than a non clearance at gamestop or walmart, thats why. Always look at price, and not the % off :)

Pretty much one of the reasons why I bought the Elite. Not only did I get $50 at Best Buy but also an extra $15 off credit card bonuses.

I think I might end up just getting the 360 Arcade at Walmart for 200 then paying the additional 20 for a 3 year warranty.

Edit: I'm looking at Ebay and they have brand new 360 Arcade's that are shown to be Jaspers that also come with a 3 year warranty. $179.99

If I can get a new Arcade for 180, I could add the hard drive after ( I found a 20gig for 39). I'd save quite a bit of money and still be under warranty for 3 years.

you won't be able to el new content for fallout w/o live.

Spend a little more money and get a pro or elite, or don't get an xbox at all. You'll barely have enough memory on those cards for your game saves with fallout

Trust me, if you get a a pro/elite and connect to live for the first time you'll be thankful you listened to us. You'll be able to download demos, xbl arcade games, you can use the media player and stream media from your pc to the xbox. The arcade ONLY let's you play console games. You might as well buy a PS2 or Nintendo DS.

The pro/elite is the same thing as an arcade with a HD and the cables isn't it?

I can get that cheaper by buying the seperate parts right now.

I believe the arcade also comes with the standard AV cable(no HD), no Ethernet cable, no headset/mic.

The pro now comes with a 60gb hard drive, one month gold live membership, headset, no hdmi output but does come with hd/sd av cable, headset and mic

You also won't be able to use the new NXE with the arcade without a hard drive. You'll save money in the long run by going with a pro, since you'll have to buy all of those accesories to enjoy the live experience

    compare here.

    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/compare101.htm

the pro has the 60 gig, comes with the hd cable, network cable, headset and is backwards compatable. they all have an hdmi output, just no cable. headset retails for 20 and HD cable retails for 40. thats 60 of the cost there. then the 20 gig hard drive costs you 40, there's your 100 difference. Even if you aren't planning on playing on XBL, there are still updates that are required for some games, you really need storage. might as well get the pro with the 60 gig for the same you will pay for the arcade, or very very close.
