Interesting read, any thoughts on this? Dolphins won't draft McFadden or Dorsey? Two things Bill Parcells won't do with the Dolphins' first-round pick: He won't take Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, because he doesn't believe in taking a running back that high in the draft. And even though the Dolphins finished last in the league in run defense, he won't take LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey. While Parcells hasn't hired a new head coach, it's a good bet Parcells will want his team playing a 3-4 defensive scheme. And Dorsey, who is only 6-1 and about 305 pounds, isn't an ideal 3-4 nose tackle or end. He's a three-technique tackle in a 4-3. -- Philadelphia Daily News http://msn.foxsports.com/rumors/nfl#2
I think that is very true in both counts. Parcells/Ireland will talk both up to improve trade scenarios, but I think we'll end up with Jake Long or trading down.
why not trade down at a discounted price? if we can get Chris Long/Gholston/Jake Long/Matt Ryan and a 2nd round pick instead of just the player then why not? if it wasn't for the cap hit at the top pick, I would feel alot better about our chances of trading down
We wont take Jake Long either. Thats way to high to take a RT Come on down Chris Long , you are the next contestant on The Price is Right....
Way too much logic in this thread so far. We need someone explaining how Dorsey will be a great NT in a 3-4 or that McFadden is the best RB ever or that Jerry Jones will trade his whole draft for him even though he knows we won't take him blah blah..... Either Chris of Jake Long is the smart first pick IMO. Is funny how it's take people a while to change their minds and once they have changed it to change it again. Early this year we have a lot of people on the McFadden bandwagon. Over time many came to see that a RB, almost any RB ever was not our biggest need atm. I know some of these good people and they followed the draft every year and over 2 months I watched a lot of minds going to Dorsey being number one. And of course the media telling us every week who the #1 pick was helped in this. And with us running a 4-3 defense this made sense. But then we went from BP ((before Parcells) to AP (after Parcells) and we are coming to terms with us really playing a 3-4 fulltime. So now the people who want Dorsey are trying to prove (mostly to themselves) that Dorsey will be a great NT. The truth being that Dorsey will be a too small NT or a too slow DE in a 3-4. It will take a few months for minds to change again. This thread is months ahead of it's time.
Sorry Marty , but Chris Long will stop the run. He is as good , if not better, at stopping the run as he is at rushing the QB. I wouldnt mind Dorsey either as I think hes just as good. I would just prefer Chris Long at DE and trying to pick up Isaac Sparoago (NT) in FA. You dont have to agree with me and to be honest it wouldnt be any fun if everyone did agree with me but please dont make untrue statements about not stoping the run when hes done it all year. Thanks
If you think that Dorsey would be drafted specifically to be a NT then I agree that its not worth spending the first pick in the draft on him. IMO those who think that way are selling Dorsey short.IMO he can play anywhere in a 3-4 or 4-3 defense.NT is probably the least desirable position for him to play. We dont need another RB and the rest of the teams know that so our opportunities to trade down will be extremely limited unless we are prepared to take less value or/and existing players.
I agree 1000%, this kid is a stud that can play anywhere on the line. And you don't pass up on a stud in an area you are weak in.
It's looking more and more like Isaac Sopoaga is going to stay with San Francisco, unfortunately. He came out and said he wants to come back. We could still get him, but I think the chances are becoming slim. I really liked him coming out of college, and he would be a perfect fit for us. Too bad.
i guess the thing is with this draft we are facing alot of low risk players that dont have high bust potentials....so if we go with a Long or Dorsey or trade down im good with that...thing is the flip side of that is that there are no SPECTACULAR(Bushs or Russels) if we do trade down we wont get anywhere near value
he isnt a rt nor not an option. The feel in the team is parcells is leaning towards jake accordi g to an article someone posted yest
GM's are like politians in draft season. They all lie. Its their job to misdirect , bamboozal , and just out right lie right up till draft day.
Wrong, wrong, and wrong again. Jake Long will play right tackle in the NFL. He's been beaten in embarrassing fashion in college, and he lacks the footwork to play left tackle well in the pros. You don't justify being a top five draft pick projected to play left tackle by getting beaten by speed rushers in college. Does not happen. Jake Long will be a right tackle. As such, his stock will drop, and he is not an option at #1 overall. True left tackle prospects include Ryan Clady and Jeff Otah, not Jake Long. It's not Parcells and Ireland that are high on Jake Long, it was (supposedly) Cameron and Mueller who liked the guy. I chalk that up to a Brady Quinn-like smokescreen. It's just too convenient that Cameron, a head coach who used to work at Michigan, would supposedly fall in love with a Michigan offensive lineman while coaching a team that has a reputation for having a poor OL. If we draft at #1 overall someone whose last name is Long and whose first name isn't Chris, the mob meets at my house.
I think Mcfadden's little "indescretion" with the police may have also ruled him out of our plans as well. Remember Parcells said "no hoodlums or troublemakers".
Isn't the fact that Ireland is our GM means that he will make the selection. Not Parcells. Now I'm sure he will confide in Bill, but wouldn't the ultimate decision belong to the GM? Parcells has said he is not the GM or coach. What player will Ireland take I guess should be looked at.
That's the organization of the Dolphins on paper, yes. But to think that Parcells won't be heavily involved in the preparation leading up to the draft is naive. At the very least, Parcells will be a commanding presence in the war room on draft day. He let Jeff Ireland run the draft board in Dallas--an amazing feat in and of itself, and even more amazing when Jerry Jones left Jeff Ireland alone on draft day as well--but I just can't see Parcells going hands-off again. I just can't.
