If we don't resign Hadnot then we will need an OG. Thought I would link a few mid / late round prospects and get some imput from my fellow fans Heath Benedict, Newberry Height: 6-6. Weight: 320. 40 Time: 4.90. Projected Round: 2-3. The level of competition Benedict has played against is questionable, but he is the key cog on a front that runs on everyone. For more on Benedict, see NFL Draft Dog's Player Profile. Drew Radovich, USC Height: 6-5. Weight: 305. 40 Time: 5.09. Projected Round: 3. Started every game for USC at left guard. Eric Young, Tennessee Height: 6-4. Weight: 308. 40 Time: 5.08. Projected Round: 3-4. Plays tackle at Tennessee, but will likely move to guard for the NFL. Coming off shoulder surgery. Shannon Tevaga, UCLA Height: 6-3. Weight: 316. 40 Time: 5.28. Projected Round: 3-4. Shannon Tevaga is one of the most dependable linemen in this draft; he has started 31 consecutive games. Kerry Brown, Appalachian State Height: 6-6. Weight: 310. 40 Time: 5.16. Projected Round: 7. Kerry Brown has played against low competition, but he was named to the All-Southern first team in 2006 for his services at left guard.
Heath Benedict is a self created fantasy. If he gets picked in R2/3, I will eat my own effluent live on the internet with a compatible podcast. Plus, I wouldn't want someone, ideally, at 6'6 clogging up my throwing lanes with a 6'2 QB. I'd be looking at guys like Andrew Crummey of Maryland, the tough Virginia junior with a Parcells connection, Branden Albert, who has declared, Fernando Velasco at Georgia, you mentioned the Brown kid at Appalachian State who impressed me both times I saw him this season, Brandon Rodd at Arizona State, etc.
While I think that Benedict is a very interesting prospect, Boomer pointed out an article/blurb a few days ago that might make him slip in the draft. But his size and speed do make him intriguing.
I like Tevaga, who could be the type of OG Parcells is looking for. Great explosive initial burst and a pure mauler. Definitely a great run blocker. He's gained weight this season after his brief injury (or looks like he did). Last Den report I got listed him at 324. Haven't been too impressed with Radovich but he's worth a 4th or 5th rounder.
With David Lee on our staff, it will be interesting to see if we draft a Felton, Monk, etc. I know Bill/Jeff brought Lee on board due to how well he worked with Romo, but it will also be nice to have Arkansas' offensive coordinator around with first hand knowledge of each of the Hogs offensive prospects.
He is, but I said "ideally". Some players at 6'6 I'd rather at G than others. But in an ideal world, you don't want guys that tall in your pass lanes.
Ray Schuening from Oregon State will probably be moved to Guard in the pros. Kerry Brown and Pedro Sosa are others I would look at
Yeah, essentially. I mean, it's not great if you're QB is 6 foot to 6'2. It's not such an issue if you're Manning at 6'6 or Roethlisberger, etc.
