Just watched all 3 Spiderman movies for the 1st time yesterday (home sick / flu). I thought they were pretty good. I'd rank 3 the best, followed by 1 and 2.

    What's Eating Gilbert Grape ? :

I had always heard of this movie, and that it was good. I wasn't prepared for the excellence of this movie. I can't believe that only Leo DiCaprio was nominated (he was BRILLIANT). The cast was superb, and the film is just so understated but brilliantly directed by Lasse Halleström.

Each of the characters was trapped somehow, Mama in her grossly obese body, Mary Steengergen in her unhappy marriage, Arnie (Leo DiCaprio) by his dysfunctional brain, Gilbert's sisters by their own vanity, and Gilbert himself, by his constant responsibilites to be the man of the family because of an absent father.

    This is great filmaking.

If you haven't seen this gem of a movie from 1993, I urge you to rent it, and see it. It will move you, sadden you, and enlighten you all in one.

6 out of 5 if that is possible. :wink2:

Oh well, I'm fine with it. Maybe it was because 3 was the only one I watched in blu-ray.

Push - I really liked it. It wasn't exactly an original story, nor will it win any awards, but it was a lot of fun IMO.

Mr Woodcock - funny but a bit predictable. Surprised that Susan Sarandon would do a movie like that. 3½ out of 5.

Really liked it. Trippy movie taking place in a 1984-esque world. Lots of social commentary and it had some great quotes. I really liked the cinematography and the writing. Offbeat movie that is difficult to pin down. Is it a comedy? Social commentary? Very dark and fun.

Did you see the studio version or the directors cut? (if the end was happy you saw the studio version, if the end was depressing you saw the directors cut)

That movie is not really good if you see the studio one.

One of my all-time favorite movies. Terry Gilliam directed that, and his movies are always quirky. Check out his The Brothers Grimm, its a very quirky one too.

For my birthday we saw a double feature of Slumdog Millionaire and The Wrestler.

I knew going in that the hype over Slumdog was going to keep me from thoroughly enjoying it. I may have loved this movie if I had discovered it on my own, or it wasn't an Oscar front-runner. But great movies usually surpass the hype that surround them. I've loved movies before that I had high expectations for, The Dark Knight being a prime example.

But I saw Slumdog under the circumstances that I saw it, for better or worse. It was a good modern fairy tale, but like many fairy tales, when you know all along that the happy ending is inevitable, it takes a lot of fun out of all the twists and turns. It may be the greatest movie ever based on a game show. Better than that Justin and Kelly crap, but not better than other movies I saw this year.

    slumdog 7.5/10

But then we followed that up with The Wrestler, which couldn't be more different than Slumdog. If Slumdog was all about the fairy tale ending, then The Wrestler was all about what happens long after the fairy tale has ended, and real life sets in. Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood, and Marisa Tomei's nipples all give great performances. And I definitely liked the movie a great deal. But don't expect anything more than a character study of a sad, broken down, has-been.

There is something to be said for going into a bleak movie knowing it is going to be bleak. You check your hope at the door and wind up getting more out of the story, rather than less. Yet if you go into a fairy tale like Slumdog, knowing that the happy ending will be there, you wind up getting a lot less in that moment of triumph.

    The Wrestler 8.5/10

I just watched Miracle At St Anna's. Could of been a really good movie but whoever Spike Lee got to edit it did a horrible job. Way to many weird scenes that just seemed out of place. 6/10.

I know but this seems really blatant to me. Most sport movies dramatize a lot of different things but the games they showed never even happened. There was a scene that involved WVU that wasn't even close to how it actually was.

    Really Ive never seen it.

Didn't really appeal to me. I'm sure its a masterpiece.

    Underworld:Rise of the Lycans.

Better than the 2nd 1 for sure, I mean the hybrid in that movie was horribly done. Did you ever think a Vampire/Werewolf cross would be blue and stupid looking? Anyways other than the beautiful Rhona Mitra who I might add has a striking resemblance to the gorgeous Kate Beckinsale nice casting if I might add. Somethings really didn't make a whole lot of sense like could they or could they not transform at anytime? I ask this because
When Sonjia was chained at the pole why couldn't he transform? Even before that when he got her outside wouldn't have been easier transforming and taking putting her on her back?
Also another thing that bugged me was the fact that the full blooded Lycans were weak compared to the human/Lycan hybrid. I didn't understand that. Action was decent pretty heavy on the blue screen. It was alright alot of boring parts and you got to see a naked Rhona Mitra minus the nudity.

    How exactly does that work?

Tomorrow, a buddy and I are watching six movies in a row. He chose three, and I chose three. They are:

    Big Jake
    (John Wayne Western)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
    Patton
    Streets of Fire
    The Three Musketeers
    (Kiefer Sutherland/Charlie Sheen/Oliver Platt)

Well I classify Naked as no clothes on seeing how they had the camera angles angled to where you could see nothing hence the no nudity. She does have nice curves though.

Friday the 13th. It was entertaining, but for the wrong reasons. The audience I saw it with was funny as hell. And all of the girls in it were cute. The one girl had an incredible body.
