I know there are some fans of this mini-series floating around here so I thought you'd like to know the DVD has been announced for June 10th. If the rest of the series is as good as the first few hours, it's a definite buy for me.

I'm loving the series so far, didn't like the 3rd part as much as 1 and 2, once the venue returns to America in 4-7 I think I'll enjoy it even more.

I've really enjoyed the series so far. As soon as BlockBuster has it online, I'll "own" it, too.

I have LOVED this series so far. IMO, the best HBO series ever-and I am a HUGE Band of Brothers fan, so that is saying a lot.

Yeah, Part three was a bit slow, they could have done better with that.

Caught Part 3 on Sunday, I was frustrated because
They didn't show as much of the Revolutionary War as they could have. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that was a directorial decision - Adams was in France, so our frustration was his frustration. I like directing decisions like that.
But yeah, I can't wait for the DVD - June 10th is even sooner than I expected, and it's below the usual price that HBO likes to charge for their stuff.

Can't wait to tune in next week.

FYI - John Adams is being Executive Produced by Tom Hanks, who also did "From The Earth To The Moon" and "Band of Brothers."

I have only seen the 1st and 2nd episodes but it is excellent.. It really brings that time period to life. The tar and feathering scene from the first episode was pretty intense. They made it look a lot more brutal than I ever imagined..

    Yep.

Now next episode it looks like they will introduce some kind of jealousy factor between Adams and Jefferson involving Adams' wife.

:001_rolleyes: Because the story of this country's beginnings isn't interesting enough unless you add a soap-opera-ish element to it.

If the next episode heads in that direction it'll lose me. I don't have the time nor patience for that crap, especially after they completely glossed over the war of independence.

It was supposed to be. You can't really identify with what Adams is going through overseas otherwise.

The point is to focus on Adams' life, not the historical events taking place elsewhere. It wouldn't be called John Adams otherwise.

And I think the soap opera stuff actually did happen.

Totally agree. I would love for HBO to do a US Revolution show, but that's not exactly what this is. I had no problem at with this past show, and rather enjoyed it.

    Article Quotes:
I disagree wholeheartedly, and truly believe he does an excellent job capturing the essence of the character. I think that article is focusing way too much on physical appearance rather than actual acting chops whether or not they want to admit it (eventhough they actually have to state "It’s not a question of looks".) I'd much rather have an actor of Giamatti's ability then some dashing blow-hard who overacts the part, JMO however.

It didn't. Through Abigail Adams' letters, we can glean a certain element of sexual tension in her correspondence with James Lovell.

But no record exists of any such attraction between Mrs. Adams and Thomas Jefferson.

I do see the point regarding the focus of the series; still though, one can't gloss over the one thing in addition to the Declaration of Independence which drove Adams' public life - the Revolutionary War.

And it was almost completely glossed over in the program.

Caught the latest episode last night, it was better than the previous episode. Overall, the series is progressing nicely, I'd give the first two episodes an A, the third one a C, and this one a B. Despite some of it's flaws, it's largely engrossing television and easily the best thing I've seen, network or cable, this year.

Also, I completely disagree with the Times review - I think that Giamatti is a brilliant bit of casting, as are most of the characters in the miniseries.

Another excellent episode. What I love is that they're not trying to make John Adams likable whatsoever. If anyone has seen the movie 1776, you'd appreciate his portrayal in this series even more.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that Tom Wilkinson and Bobby Cox were separated at birth?

imdb has a great shot of him as Ben Franklin, but I can't paste it here.

I thought this last episode might have been the best yet tbh. I love the fighting between Hamilton and Jefferson and the anger and disillusionment felt by Adams.

I was watching the movie The Patriot the other night and just realized that Tom Wilkinson was playing the role of Gen. Lord Charles Cornwallis and in the HBO series John Adams he's playing the role of Benjamin Franklin, kind of ironic.

Ditto. What a lovely, heartfelt ending to a powerhouse of a series.

Paul Giamatti is a god among men...and Laura Linney a goddess no matter the role.

    HBO Series: John Adams

    I'm watching this right now-

The scale of this series is incredible. Every American should be required to watch this, or at least the first couple of episodes.

It makes the founding fathers badass- Haha
