Sean Spence is up to 213 lbs so far, needs to be at 220lbs or more before the season starts. Taking the other Linebackers under his wing and teaching them what he learned from last season. Nice to see him take a leadership role.

I love #31 - kid is a beast and embodies everything good about the Canes. He reminds me a young Dan Morgan when he was a frosh - simply all over the place.

Hoping AB can get his head out of his you know what and become an impact player for us this year. There are fears that he may transfer after Spring Practice if his brother Bryce doesn't come here.

Spence embodies everything you want in a College ball player and these are the type of guys who will get us back to nations prominence along with Forston and Jacory.

I doubt Arthur transfers anywhere regardless of what his brother does, he just needed more time to work on technique and get the playbook down. I would bet he will see his fair share of playing time next year.

Am I the only one that thinks it is actually an advantage to play FSU in the 1st game of the season with Whipple as the new OC.

Think about it, Mickey is not going to have any previous game tape to go off of for any tendencies or have any surety on how Whipple is going to use the playmakers we have.

I think you are right but I still hate having that game first. It's a conference game to boot! That's a huge game every year regardless of ranking. To have it be the first game of the year guarantees that each team won't be as sharp as they would be a couple games into the season. I want the winner to win because they are better not because the other team is starting a freshman QB or something like that. It reminds me of the Washington loss first game of the season where Dorsey almost brought the U back but the loss cost the U a chance at the title game (huge blunder BTW).

As long as our guys can pick up his system well enough to be very effective the first game - I think it's a huge advantage.

Yeah, that won't be happening. This is going to be very interesting.....I really don't see better than 7-5 and a real chance we are 5-7. If that happens, I think we'll have a competition between Mr Lovett and Mr Whipple to see who it the next head coach. :pity:

I think you're selling us a bit short.

Personally I think after the first four games, they are all games we can/should win. Not to say they will be easy, just games that if we play our best we can take.

The first four will be tough. I can see us going 3-1 or 2-2 in that stretch. I dont think we will lose more than that.

He loves everywhere he goes. My money is on Oregon. The starting job is his and they have the best facilities in the land as well as the richest booster in all of college sports in Phil Knight who will take care of Bryce long after he plays for the Ducks.

    Sam Shields moved to CB

    Link

We are so thin there so the move makes sense. He's athletic enough to play the position and has shown he's not afraid to tackle on special teams. Best of luck to him.

I really feel for McClinton. Once again he goes all out against a top team in the nation with 35 points on 13/25 shooting (7/12 from three) but his pathetic teammates and coaching staff offer him zero support. He deserves to play for a better program. The guy puts it all on the line (and at an elite level) pretty much every night. The rest of the team (and coaches) ruined the chance at going 3-0 against Wake, Duke, and UNC back-to-back-to-back. McClinton dropped 30+ in all three games. Best player in the ACC no doubt. **** Mark Madsen, Jr. :)

Oh well, at least we're losing close to the big schools, while winning one here or there. Maybe we'll get in as a 12th seed.

After the coaching job this season, which was filled with promise, should Haith be retained or let go ?

The program is still in its infancy stages so I think it'd be premature to let him go. It's not his fault Rios was a knucklehead and got kicked off the team. He's recruiting very well right now and the program needs some continuity to be able to really establish itself in the hard fought ACC.

    A Couple tidbits...

    Bailey possibly moving to DT??

I expect big things out of Bailey this year. The talent is there on the DL to be dominant and having Moncur back kinda settles things. A lot of people are writing us off but I really believe our defense is going really surprise some people next year. We were playing the wrong scheme last year based on the personnel we have. I firmly believe that.

    Javarris:"Whipple's Offense Great for Us"

If the OL holds up and gives Jacory some pass protection - I think we'll score a lot more points and add that quick strike element back to our offense. There's not a lack of speed with guys like Benjamin, Collier and Johnson (Davon) - these 3 can fly. With a big physical WR like A. Johnson and versatile backs that can catch the ball - theres a lot for Whipple to work with. I'm excited.

    Can Spring practice start already?!?

Granted Bryce is an extremely talented player, but I really have no idea why Randy Shannon has put up with this circus. There very well could be some validity to this story if he has had enough of it.

BTW, before anyone goes overboard on the woe is the 'U' train if we do miss out on Bryce, last week at the UA Combine event in South Florida RB Eduardo Clements ran a 4.37 40 yard dash.

The RB talent in South Florida is just amazing.

I'm guessing that's a typo? 4.73 is not fast for a RB, lol.

Regarding Bryce, it was expected and I don't mind it really. I'm perfectly fine with Lamar Miller.

True; lets hope James can stay healthy because I still think he's a helluva back when healthy. I think the wildcard is going to be Chambers. I think he has some talent and can be a change of pace back for us. The question is, where does he fit into the rotation? I would guess that James would get redshirted but I don't know how likely that is.

Right. Remember Chambers did some nice things against Cal in the bowl game. He's added some weight - has speed to burn. Bottom line is, we both agree, RB is not a huge position of need for us. Plus next year we can go after Jakhari Gore, who WANTS to be a Cane.

You are now officially only the 2nd person to ask me that question since I have been a member.

Bit of a strange situation actually, my ex wife's uncle is Michael Marino and he is Dan's attorney (no relation, just same last name).

Dan flew into upstate New York in a Helicopter with Michael, his agent and one other guy to look at a property to possibly develop a hotel on.

They put the helicopter down on my ex wife's Grandmothers sheep farm in Little Falls New York and drove onto the site to have a look. Once they were done we got to spend some time with them, take pictures, get autographs etc.

One of the best moments of my life other than the birth of my daughter.

I really think Bryce has now realized with the revelation of the expiry of his schollie offer he has shyte the sandbox with Shannon and he has to patch things up now. He needs to hope Shannon is not completely over the drama and will even extend the schollie's expiry time.

Joey - at this point, do you even want him?? If he signs with us - I'll root hard for the kid. But he has not endeared himself to me at all by these games he's been playing. Yes he put up some impressive numbers but that was in Kansas against what I consider suspect competition. And while he looked amazing in the Army game - that's all I have I have ever seen of him. And I don't see how we get him over Oregon anyway. That situation is set up for him to come in and be the starter from day one.

BB's been one of the most sought after recruits in the country. It's too bad he's surrounded by people who advise him to act like an NFL star player who's gracious enough to lend his services to a football team.:pity:

To be honest at this point it does not matter to me one way or the other if he signs with us. The latest information coming out is the coaching staff was not too happy with a few comments Bryce made about Whipple and the offense he plans on installing in that scout interview he did.

Now the update on his site is he will make us his last visit which will be during spring practice so he can see the competition he will face for the starting job and also the offense at work.

Definitely suspect competition compared to what he would have seen if he played in Dade. No way they would have the same type of team speed in Kansas.

If Randy is still willing to take him and he signs fine, I would still root for him to do well, but if not, no sweat off my nose, we have Miller and James and next years class.

Joey...I have seen tapes of Gore and Miller...both very good backs...but Bryce is off the charts good.....I hope he signs with the U and all will be forgiven as good as he is.....I do not think most people know just how good this kid is. When he signs the team he signs with is instantly a conference contender....IMHO......lets hope he signs and everyone patches things up:up:

Even though I could really care less at this point what BB and his advisor Grimus decide to do - I would be surprised if he didnt sign with us in the end.

He has gone from saying he has no reason to visit Miami, that he's already seen everything, to now saying he will use his last visit to visit us anyway. And this is after news broke that we may pull his schollie.

I agree with you Bryce is a special talent and would like to see him sign, but at what point does the antics in recruiting affect your team?

Granted he is a special player, but will one player change the entire fortune of a team? I know some people will throw out a name like Tebow, but he has some plenty talented players surrounding him as well.
