All classic, campy 80's movies. NO need for a remake. They stand the test of time and still hold up well today.

I guess they feel as though doing new films based on the same things will draw more criticism than just remaking it.

I think they're doing a new Bill and Ted too... :pity:

Now that is just blasphemy. :pity:

I also heard they're remaking "Back to School" with Cedric the Entertainer in Rodney Dangerfield's role.

Sorry...Rodney is the ONLY Thronton Mellon.

And the fact that they actually made a "Pink Panther II" after Steve Martin embarrassed himself - by completely butchering a role that belongs to no one but Peter Sellers - in the FIRST "PP" remake, shows two things:

    1. Hollywood is completely out of ideas.

    2. Steve Martin should really, truly retire...cause the man has no shame.

Problem being... people still go watch 'em... if they didn't then Hollywood would not make 'em.

But when Paul Blart Mall Cop leads the Box office for three weeks straight. Then you know people are not looking for quality movies.

you know rumor is the Karate Kid will have Will Smiths kid as Daniel Son and Jackie Chan as Mr Miyagi

How can you remake the Karate Kid? Especially considering it's going to involve Will Smith's son and Jackie Chan. That's automatically stupid. No one will ever touch Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi.

AS for Weird Science: Why? It was goofy fun, but dumb. (I love it though). What in the hell are they thinking. Yeah, I loved the remake of Friday the 13th. But hell, this was a long running series anyway. But why touch the 80's classics?

And I'm with you Pagan: Steve Martin absolutely has embarrassed himself trying to play a role that Sellers was genius in. He should call it a career if this is all he can do. It's pathetic.

At least it wasnt a crappy remake. That I know of.

And I enjoyed the first pink panther, though ive never seen the original. Trick is not to compare them and pretend they are totally different things. Like comparing books that have been made into movies.

That said, Hollywood is well and trully out of ideas.

Truth is, Hollyweird has been out of ideas for a decade.

They are also out of touch, unfortunately, millions still overpay rediculous prices just to see the latest and greatest...

But alas, the rock keeps spinning around in circles

I thought they said the Top Gun remake wasn't going to happen a while back.

I can buy Jackie Chan as Mr.Miyagi but they're is no reason to remake it, I'm completely against it.

Okay, since it will be remade, who should be the "perfect girl" in the remake of Weird Science? My first thought is Adriana Lima. But she's never acted. But then again, Kelly LeBrock wasn't much of an actress either.
Anyway, I wonder who they'd cast for it. Probably yet another Disney girl or something stupid like that.

I've never been a fan of Weird Science so I don't mind if they remake that. The others are classics and I'm sure they will bomb at the box office just like the new Bad News Bear movie awhile back.

Hollywood has simply run out of original ideas. I'm sure we'll see a remake of Caddyshack, Major League and The Godfather soon enough.

~ The Karate Kid - Baaaaad idea, it's a classic, to re-do it is pointless.
~ Weird Science - This one is moderately acceptable, I could see it being over the top funny, having crazy SFX and hopefully boobs this time!
~ Top Gun - *yawn* Hollywood puts this movie out every year, under different names - The Recruit etc etc etc
~ Red Dawn - Classic movie, but the idea that the Russians are coming isn't as scary as it was back then.

And that is precisely why you enjoyed the new one.

Sellers gave the performance of a lifetime in those movies. His portrayal of Clouseau...completely incompetent while having no clue that he was, along with his deadpan delivery, defined the role.

Martin played it like an over the top buffoon.

I would suggest renting "The Return of the Pink Panther" and "The Pink Panther Strikes Again".

IMO, the two best of the series.

No one would ever try and remake The Godfather. It would be a career ender for most involved if the movie were to bomb and is too much of a classic to mess with.

Oh I totally understand this... But Paul Blart was the highest grossing movie for three weeks in a three week period that included: Gran Torino, Slumdog Millionaire, Underworld, Taken, My Bloody Valentine, Notorious.

I mean none of those are particularly a movie I would kill to watch, but I would be hard pressed to say Paul Blart is better.

And while your point is true, then I am sorry but people should not criticise hollywood for remaking Karate Kid and Godfather, cuz some people might have a different idea of what a quality movie is and might find Jackie Chan to be better than Pat Morita.

Yeah, I have, just saying the storyline has been played out 100 times, 100 different ways. Young Hotshot goes through training, gets a cool nickname like Iceman or Maverick or Baker, goes on mission, the nice guy friend gets killed, the hero wins the mission, gets laid, credits roll.

Not a remake but the fact they are making G.I. Joe a movie is more proof Hollywood is lacking creativity, they have gone through all the comic book super powers for ideas they have to resort to freakin' toys for movies. TOYS!!!!

Hollywood doesn't try to cater to your liking because USUALLY their movies are geared towards teenage/college scenes now... Sure there are exceptions, but most movies are geared towards that way.

Kids are more likely to blow their money on a movie than an adult... so who does Hollywood cater to?

    It's all about money, bro...

You really thought so? I just remember I was bored out of my mind and wanted to just leave. I mean the original was a classic, the new one was just bad. In my opinion only had one funny part when they took the kids to Hooters.

Robot Chicken did a spoof of hollywood using board games for movie ideas. They had the Hungry Hungry Hippos as a vigilante group HUNGRY FOR JUSTICE! Was pretty funny

And Toy Soldiers was different then Toy Story.
