WOW. This kind of took me by surprise. I thought with the way things were working out that he'd be gone. I'm glad we resigned him though. He's not a star but he's solid and is a vocal leader for the defense.

What I'm positing is that the holes/positions are role player types, not front line starters, a nickel ILB could be a 6th round pick, a SS like Butler or Wilson are pretty much the same player as Y Bell.

Three down backers is a bit of a misnomer, how about coverage lb's who could start in an emergency instead?

If I may put forward, would it be better and cheaper to take a cover corner at #44 and let Goodman leave, or would it be better to resign Goodman and take some potshots at corners later in the draft?

INOW, how much value and importance does the #2 Cb or #3 Cb have?

This is good news. It's one less position they must fill. now, they can always upgrade, but it's gone from the must do category.

I still think that we need front line starters at spots. We should upgrade our starting ILB spot opposite of Channing Crowder and upgrade the free safety spot.

That's true on the strong safeties though.

Why is a three down linebacker misleading?

I think it depends on the money we're talking about for Andre' Goodman. How cheap or expensive is he? He played at a high level last year and if you could lock him up for a couple years and then select a cornerback in this years class, groom him and you have your replacement for Goodman in a couple years.

I think it depends a bit on your first cornerback. If you have an elite talent there, the next two on the depth chart are important because they are targeted more. In our case, Will Allen is a fine cornerback - not Asomugha-level - but a fine cornerback and I think that the number two spot and three spot present good values because of the offense's nowadays. You have teams running a spread offense with four or five wide receiver sets and they have talents at that position that can make an impact on the game.

Three down Lb is too limited a view of players, for example, Burnett could just as easily play inside as outside, yet he is considered a 3rd down/"coverage" Lb.

Well really happy crowder didn't remove himself from the offer and worked out a deal. Great to have around and playing for us, but its not unexpected he didn't get a long term deazl. But great he's in the fold.

Glad to have him back. Anyone who says our defense was as good with him out is lying to themselves. He wasnt worth a huge contract, and doubt he got one. But for a reasonable deal there was no reason to let him get away.
Hes not Rey Lewis, or Brian Urlacher or anyone like that, but hes pretty consistently above average as far as tackling and running defense go. Not a great player, but one worth it to keep around for the right price, definately.

As for his comments, I dont see relevance. He wanted to stay in Miami, but thought the sides werent close to a contract. He said it would be our loss, but likely both sides went back to the drawing board and hashed out a deal that Crowder felt was good enough to stay with the hometown team. I dont think he ever intimated that he didnt want to be a dolphin, or thought we did something wrong. He was initially dissapointed that he wouldnt get signed to a big contract here, understandable. Glad he and the bean counters were able to figure it all out.

Glad to see Crowder coming back. Concerned though that Goodman and Bell are still un-signed.

He said it was Miami's loss, But he never said he did not wanna come back. He actually said the only place he wanted to play was in Miami.

I am certainly glad you are not making any personnel decsions because Crowder does not suck. However your right we do need to improve the position, But just Akin Ayodele not Crowder

I'm neither excited to too down. I think he will be a average LB like he always has. He makes lots of tackles after the player reaches a first down. He's average. Better then having a horrible person in there.

GF. You're making a pretty big leap that he'll be around the ball there. Maybe we play a really bad QB week 1 IDK.

On Joe Rose show this morning, Crowder said he'd had lunch with Zach Thomas yesterday and Thomas advised him that chasing the $ wasn't always the best thing - that if he was being paid reasonably and he like where he was at, he ought to think long and hard on leaving."

Crowder also said that he's been bugging the hell out of Y. Bell and Goodman to get them to re-up.

If we can keep Bell and Goodman and sign an inside lineman like Brown i'd be happy. Maybe get a vet WR like Coles and add some special teams guys... and it's a successful free agency.
