Im not a football guru. I hardly know what the heck i am talking about half the time but i gotta say, Cameron Wake seems to be one heck of a football player.

I do have a few questions for many of you football geniuses out there. Ive watched all the youtube clips and have bought into the hype on this kid, but will it really translate into our league? Do you think he is going to make an immediate impact on this team? Do you think he and Joey Porter can coexist?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

Mods, feel free to merge if u so wish. Thanks

    Shaun

You have to remember that highlight videos are just that... the highlights of their season. The best plays they made.

It doesnt show the flip side. His weakness, etc.

Hes got some talent and explosion, and could be good, but I suggest taking the wait and see approach. Dont hype the kid to crazy levels. Last time he was on an NFL team, he got cut.

I'm excited about the potential, but thats all it is right now. We will see if he can fulfill that potential...

He has a ton to learn, and we all will have a better feel for him once Training Camp begins along with the pre Training Camp workouts.

He and Peezy are apples and oranges though, Wake became a Football playing monk in the CFL, Peezy is the opposite.

All I know is you have to be excited about this guy coming to our team, and what he brings to the table... Im pretty excited about seeing how he does on the field. I think it could go either way. I doubt he will be as dominant as he was in the CFL, but I think he's going to make an impact...

I've yet to really even see a good highlight video of the guy, most of what I've seen is hype video that is light on actual tape other than dramatized angles and whatnot.

I think ultimately, it's difficult for anyone to give a legitimate prediction I think. CFL to NFL for pass rushers is not a common route, and there are enough differences(especially in that a defender is lined up much further off the ball) to make it intriguing.

Camp will give us a idea of what he can do. I hope he can come in on passing down and give us another speed rusher off the corner.

While on Paper it looks like a GREAT addition, remember this CFL, CFL, CFL..

The NFL is another level lets hope he can adjust but it's an experiment right now for the most part, looking for diamonds in the rough..

They interviewed him on Sirius NFL Late Hits this evening with Gill Brant and the other host. They seem to really like this guy. Wake is very well spoken and humble. He stated that although the offseason conditioning does not start until the end of the month, he has a place now in Miami and will be going in and start working out at the facility soon. He sounds like he is pumped to be a Fin and stated there were about 12 other teams courting him but chose Miami because of the entire picture and just liked everything about the organization. He also stated he will be used at Outside LB. Pretty impressive interview. He comes across well. Sounds like he has alot to prove based on what happened with the Giants.

Nice, he looks like D Ware!

With out tackles, we will know soon enough what we have with Wake, Carey or Long, either way if Wake gives them all they can handle then we did real good with him.

Wake was the defensive player of the year in the CFL for two years so the highlight film can't be discounted as just hype, the guy played great in the CFL. That may or may not translate to the NFL because we both know the two leagues are as different as night and day. But it should relate to Wake's highlight films however as an indication of his true talent and play relating to the CFL and not just a few highlights from a mediocre football player.
We still have a tendancy to have doubts and question just about every free agent move Parcells/Ireland/Sparano make because of all the dark days we went through before they arrived. I don't have blind faith in them but I certainly feel more confident in their abilities to find talent than anybody else we've put our trust in for a long time.
I like to think that they see some real potential in Cameron Wake and they didn't just make their decision on what they saw in a couple of highlight films but thats JMO.

It is safe to assume that Wake must have impressed in his workout for Ireland and Parcel's, they typically don't throw money around easily, but I'd still love to know his measurables from the workout.

Eh, if the highlight film were from the Pac 10, people would gush, in the CFL those guys are pros so they should be a bit more savvy at stopping a pass rusher because that is what they do for a living.

The only CFL defender I can think of in recent years that's made a nice transition to the NFL is Rashad Jeanty of the Bengals. He's been a solid starter here in Cincinnati for the past 3 years. Nothing flashy, just solid - think Akin Ayodele.

If Wake can turn out like that, I'll be happy.

You guys looking for mesurables, etc. I was reading Dave Hyde's blog (link to follow) and I think this was Boomer writing the article but he was comparing Parcells/Ireland players and their combines and it had this to say:

His numbers compare to ware. If it's even possible that we have someone on our team that compares to Ware (which by the numbers it does) then it has me excited.

People mention "CFL, CFL, CFL" but he was drafted first in the "NFL, NFL, NFL" by the Giants as Derek Wake before he went to the CFL as Cameron Wake a few years ago. He was cut in camp I believe, and if anyone knows why I would be interested. It could be playing ability in the NFL but if anyone has an idea of Linebackers in the NFL it's Bill Parcells (and if you want to go the "Jeff Ireland is our GM not Bill Parcells" Ireland did draft D. Ware).

It's a ways down the article just look tho it's done by position.

i don´t buy into the cut thing, lots of players got cut and redeemed themselves, WR Jimmy Smith got cut, WR Wes Welker got cut, LB James Harrison got cut and they were no salary cap victims either
