My colleague Joe Mayes put together an interesting little metaphor piece on what could be some key intricacies of the Bill Parcells recipe:

I also think that the tight end position is going to be a pivotal focal point of the new Dolphins offense. What do you all think?

    Well away from here
Nice article. Although I do not believe Parcells wants a 4-3 (The article said he did), to the contrary, he has taken the 3-4 every where he has gone. I highly doubt that in old age he has decided to abondon a staple of his coaching years.

I personally don't care which it is; just get the players to run it. I just don't see Parcells looking to run a 4-3 so Ryan from oakland might be a stretch. We already interviewed his brother didn't we? He ran a 3-4 in Baltimore, and we all know a former DC, now HC can implement his scheme. I just really don't see the Three Amigos (BP, JI, and Tony), venturing too far of the beaten path so to speak; in terms of coaching candidates.

Well what he says is that he likes Rob Ryan's approach to defense, not that he favors a 4-3.

That being said, if Ryan were to be a serious candidate, he would have to adopt a 3-4, and I just don't see that happening.

    But who knows.

It is easier to find 4 Dlineman and 3 Lb's then to find a special NT and 4 lb's who are wonderful athletes..

Miami tried and tried and tried to run the 3-4, it never worked, we should never return to it, ti is too hard to find players to play it well, Jackie Shipp, Jay Brophy, Mike Brown, Mike Charles, and pretty much every draft bust under Shula came as a direct result of trying to run the 3-4.

4-3 base defense, then adjust from there.

I'm not a betting man, but I'm willing to wager a buck or two on Parcells switching to the 3-4.

2 dollars? Too rich for my blood....

I think when we acquire the players we will switch in 09 or so, right now we would need at least 7 new players to run the 3-4, if we run the 4-3, we need a NT and MLB so IMO we will be staying 4-3 team next yr at least.

Heck we still do not have a Defensive Coordinator, so who knows?

Granted Parcells and Sparano share the same "philosophy", but wouldn't it really be up to the Head Coach to decide if we run the 3-4 or 4-3 and not the Vice President of Football Operations.....??
