and to you Marty. How you been brother Darin? Maybe Wayne should be sporting a black veil or something to symbolize the occasion. Although, if you are of Christian persuasion, Sundays on the way and we all know what Sunday is.
I saw a poll on one of the papers this morning....Dorsey had like 2.7 percent of the vote. When his pro day comes, people will remember Dorsey.
Here's the thing: in a vacuum, I would prefer Dorsey to the Longs. Alas, with the way we've set things up, I don't think Dorsey is a great fit for us. If we're playing a 3-4 defense, he's a square peg in a round hole. Throw in the injury concerns, and Chris Long just makes more sense for us. (So yes, at least one Chris Long fan followed you here. Sorry. )
Yep - he'll become the new flavor of the week. Maybe even Mike Mayock will stop claiming we're taking the BC QB who can't throw a spiral and get on board the train.
Let me ask you a question about that - a lot of people say that - but....do you not think he could play DE for us in a 3-4, and be outstanding at it? The guy is an absolute beast - you put him at DE and he will just eat the opponents alive. I'm not so sure the fit is so terrible.
Hi Guys! Wow, you guys really know how to make the most boring part of the NFL season more entertaining. Admins get traded, fanboard-franchises relocated. Will there be a draft when both side can pick posters? I guess you guys understand that it's way too early for people like me to get a clue of what really happened. But in the last 3.5 years I learned to respect (and disrespect) a lot of people on finheaven. And if I wasn't wrong with my judgement in the last years I definitely see this side succeding just based on the posters in this thread. I know I can't do the most to help this side grow, but I will gladly offer myself as a moderator for every post written in German. Roman p.s.: I'll still vote for Chris Long ;-)
I find it interesting that for most of the JLong crowd, Dorsey will be playing out of position, yet, Jake will be lining up in a mostly unproven position too. If you can be so certain Long can lift his hand and stand, why can't Dorsey slide a gap and go. They say as a nose, he will be a hole filler with two men on him.. I say so what, he always has two men on him, it is not a new experiance. This kid can play all along the line and HAS to be accounted for no matter where that is.
Exactly! To me, the guy adds a ton of flexibility to what you can do on the d-line, and has dominated the best big-school double-teams in arguably the best conference in the nation. If his leg checks out ok, and we can't move out of the #1 slot, I take him without hesitation and figure out how to use him.
I 100% agree. Let me add that the weaknesses of the team last season were run defense and pass protection. Let me add that I'm unsure regarding pass defense but I'll throw it in there. Due to the piss-poor run defense, teams like the Raiders had 3000000000000000000000 carries, not a lot of opportunities to decipher the abilities of the DB's. Glenn Dorsey would go a LONG way toward improving the run defense for the team. He won every defensive lineman award possible. He can play any position along the DL with his strength and absolutely absurd quickstep. Why aren't the Dolphins considering him? Must be due to Parcells' man-love for linebackers.
Hey guys. Just read through the thread on the other site. I don't post a alot, but have thoroughly enjoying reading the site on a daily basis. I look forward to posting here and wish you guys a lot of luck with the new site. Don't hold it against me, but I'm part of the Jake Long crowd...............
No one with the Dolphins has said they're not considering him. There are only 'informed" posters who speculate that Dorsey isn't going to be the choice because he doesn't fit some mythically rigid defensive scheme. Tony Sparano himself has said," "we will taylor the system to the strengths of the players" or words to that effect. That being the case, I could definately see them taking the best D-lineman in college football and making use of the talents and skills he posesses in any way they can.
after reading the other site i kinda fingered ya'll would be starting off here at this sight. even though i haven't posted often i've been around since 04....then off the boards for a while (illness) and when i got back my records weren't available (even though i had the same screen name)....so i just re-registered....i'll stay with you guys as long as you let me know where here is. marty...we have some boards (in the 05) days about the old dolphins (i'm from pompano bch and drank with WaHoo McDaniels at rum runners in 66.
Most teams play a 4-3, especially in college you won't find a lot of 3-4's. So you have much more Linemen then Linebacker. The reason teams have difficulties to switch to a 3-4 is to find the LB/DE, not the DT/DE. I think it's a question of supply and demand and that's why I expect us to pick Long. Not because he is the better player but because he plays the position that is tougher to fill in the system we'll try to run.
I think he could do it pretty well, but I don't think he'd be an All-Pro. He'd probably have to drop a bit of weight, and his strength at run stuffing wouldn't be quite as valuable from there. I should add this point: I personally am a bigger believer in a 4-3 than a 3-4. I think it's easier to find personnel for a 4-3, and I think Glenn Dorsey would be an All-Pro DT in a 4-3 defense, perhaps the equal of Warren Sapp in his prime. But, we've obviously cast our die with the 3-4, and the difficulties that finding players that go with it. Dorsey is an absolute prototype 4-3, 1 gap DT. If you were to design the ideal 4-3, 1 gap DT, you'd come up with a player that looks a lot like Dorsey. Because of that, though, I think putting him someplace else would detract from his natural skill set. A 4-3 DE and a 3-4 OLB are more or less interchangeable positions, however; thus Chris Long fits seamlessly into what we want to do.
Hey, John! I made it over here after I got your PM! All my favorite folks seem to be over here! Back on topic: I was originally a C. Long proponent, I just love the kid's play and his drive to excel. But, it wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if we took Dorsey, he's also a D-monster. That's a win-win scenario for us- either-or, we win!!
Hey guys just read the news, Bummer, But glad you guys are still posting here. I don't post much but enjoy reading your posts. Anyway, I really like Dorsey but am worried about his injuries, especially his back. With that being said I'm leaning for J Long right now.
In my view the first thing the Dolphins have to do is stop the run. That said, Dorsey is the obvious choice. From the clips I've watched of him, when he's healthy, he just can't be blocked by one guy. Put him and Taylor on the same side, and your defense is now dictating what the opposing offense can do...
I don't know would you use the 1st pick on something we already tried to improve on, We traded for Ferguson and signed Randy Starks. I do like Dorsey but I think we have other needs.
well, as a longtime lurker, I see a bunch of people who I have come to respect here, so I am here to offer my continued lurking support, lol... You guys rock! Paul
