    To move up?

We'd have a high first rounder and a second rounder. I know that parcells/ireland/sparano seem to like their picks but do you think it is possible we make this kind of deal to grab the guy we want?

    edit:

for the record I don't think this is going to happen, just generating discussion.

if we are trading to move up, do you have a prospect that is worth our attention? to give up that kind of weight we really would want a certain player and were sure he would fall no further. Crabtree maybe?? Not sure who would be worth a move like that.

No way, we sit tight where we are and wait for someone to slide. If we want them we pick them or hope that someone else covets him and gives up the farm like the CLE/DAL deal for Quinn. Besides, another high pick comes with another huge contract that eats up valuable cap space.

I'd love to get out of the 25th pick by trading down. But if there is a top 10 pick that the FO thinks would be a great fit for our team/system I wouldn't be against it. Say like a Crabtree, Orakpo, Curry type who would fall. to late top ten spot.

But I think between 25-35 there is not much seperation in the players available, meaning if we traded down from 25 we could find someone very similar at the 35 range. That would be ideal in my opinion and get extra pick either for this year or next, whatever the deal might equate too.

If we stand pat i think with three picks to fill immediate needs it would be great for our team development. We'd be getting younger and have some talented kids come in for some great camp battles.

Agreed. Of Boomer's Draft Winds pieces, I recall him mentioning Miami did interview Brian Orakpo. He'd be the only likely candidate I could think of right now that we might trade up for...but I'd rather keep our picks or add more.

If they see someone worth it, maybe... but the safe money is on them seeing 2 players worth it at those positions in the draft and keeping them.

The only guys I can see us being interested in above our pick our BJ Raji and Rey Maualuga. Raji likely will not slide low enough for us to jump up for him. Maualuga could fall into that range where we could sacrifice a 2nd for him, but ever since we brought back Crowder I have considered that much less a possibility. I think we are pretty content where we are. We will see if anyone falls to us. If not, there still should be a decent WR or CB prospect. After that, we'll see how the OLBs fall into the second round.

Our problem is a lack of depth, we need better quality back ups, trading down at this point in time, unless it is just a steal from a franchise that does not want to pay top pick money in a down economy would be a bit shakey IMO.

I don't think thats going to happen. Not a bad idea, but I just dont see it. With the 3 picks we've got in the first two rounds, we're more than likely going to get 3 quality players. I dont see us having the "luxury" at this point to package together our first and a second, just to move up in the draft, and fork out big cash for an earlier pick.

You talk to some and they will say that 10 players in the country stand out ATHLETICALLY from the rest of the first round. Personally, I don't buy it. I think the number is closer to 5 and none of them are usually a quarterback. Having said that.......

Every pick ahead of us in the draft comes with a significant increase in investment and and therefore an increase in risk due to salary cap constraints. Less (rather than more) of the 1st round picks will prove to be worth the first contract of their career. More than one veteran teammate who is a BETTER overall player will be playing for less money. All too often the only advantage gained from a first round pick is it's form of a down payment for the second contract and a corresponding "hometown discount". If you take this view then no first rounder is worth his contract even at pick 25.

I'll take picks 35 and 45 and 55 rather than pick 15 because you get three players with the same ability for the same money as one.

Move UP in the first round? NEVER!

I agree with Zod, if you move up to the top 12 your going to be paying roughly the same type of money to one player than three.

for production a first and two second round picks would be far more valuable than one top 12 pick for the same money paid out.

    Stick with the picks.

Depends, the cost of signing such a pick was clearly one of the factors in the Cassel and Vrabel trade, however, if someone wants to move out of the big money zone, say picks 7-12, then we should look into it especially if a guy we like is still available.

A player like Orakpo or whomever.

I have to say if Crabtree somehow hit 9-10-11 Id take a hard look.

But mostly you just stand pat. I doubt we will be able to trade down either, but you never know. Unless we get a good deal to move up that isnt prohibitively expensive, we wont.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know off the top of their head if Parcells has ever moved up to get anyone before in an early round?

May use 1st and a 3rd to get Boldin from Cards

I heard this rumor we are talking to them, what the true terms would be, don't really know of course.

Don't think we would trade up that high unless there was just a guy we couldn't live without. Not even sure how much higher we could get with a mid second round pick, along with the 25th. Also, would mean we are paying that guy that much more for a higher 1st round pick.

I would rather see them trade away that 25 for 2 seconds if possible. Doesn't NE have a couple to spare? This F.O and 4 second rounders could do some serious damage.

Until draft day, none of us can imagine anyone falling that would prompt trading up. That said, we have more than just one hole to fill on this squad and when it comes to picks...the more the merrier....however, there is also a potential way to trade up using Satele....perhaps to move up a few spots in the first by trading #25 and Satele to get into the middle of the round ?? I'd do it...

i would rather draft 2 people instead of one. you never know when someone is a bust! plus you don't want to pay a lot of money to a bust! i love building through the draft.

Highly doubtful for the reason you already stated. This regime is very protective of their picks.

    25th pick: 760
    44th pick: 460
    Total: 1220

That could allow us to move up to the 12th pick in the draft. Don't see M. Crabtree getting anywhere near there. I think he will be gone by the 8th pick at the latest.

Miami would be better off trading down...not trading up.

It would also take the 56th pick in the draft to move up to 7th pick.

Simply put it cost to much...

We are not in the position yet of only needing one or two players to make it over the top. We are still in the position of needing many players and not just a few to put the team where it needs to be. I could be wrong but I just don't see the trifecta trading away picks just to move up a few spots. I could see them moving down for more picks but not up and giving up picks.

I don't wanna trade up for anyone. Too much talent in the 2nd rd to lose a pick on someone else.
