Or some legs, hands, and a focused mind. Wilford's got the size you look for in a Dorrell/Parcells WR just not anything else.
We need to cut him anyway. The guy can't play and is only taking the spot of someone who could help the team
Im really disappointede in wilford, as im sure everyone is. Im even more disappointed in the amount of cash we gave this guy, and im even more disappointed that were stuck with him because of the cash we gave him.. it sucks... alot. hopefully he shows up next year with a new attitude, and goes out there and competes, and earns some of that cash were paying him. his whole.. what.. 3 catches this year really didnt warrant his salary
Well, I'm thinking the cap space is definitely why he is still on the team. Or he just had a bad year (don't flame me) and the FO (due to the cap) is willing to say "ah screw it" and see what they can get out of him in camp... though like gish says we'll still owe 3M next year so cutting him (while getting a bit cheaper) is still a bit too much with the exception that he's 1 guy on a 53 man roster.. Still waiting to see how this pans out..
I agree. Take the hit, and move on. If nothing else it sends a message to the rest of the team. JMHO... G
I dont consider him a bust atleast not in the sense that its the fo's fault. He was a great possesion receiver in Jax, and they thought he would be here too. I am still not sure why he didn't. I mean Matt Jones wasn't that good of a second option.
Kind of reminds me of Reggie Howard. Wasn't he signed to a big free agent contract and never did anything to earn his pay?
i would like to see him cut , but you'll need receivers in camp because some will pull hamstrings and teams always seem to be short on receivers in camp.plus he is making alot of money and will get a 2nd chance.
I wouldn't say great. Wasn't exactly lighting it up over there and really only 1 decent season. Was always an underachiever who had numerous reasons why he couldn't be a starter or even a bit player.
How can you not consider him a bust? Miami gave him a 6 million dollar signing bonus and he caught THREE passes all year. He was also never anything special. (definately not great.) He had a good year in 2005 and after that his yards and yards per catch have gone down every year since then.
You're misunderstanding my post, I meant that I dont think he was the front offices bust. He himself fell apart.
Sparano actually came out and defended Wilford a few times last season, said he was working hard and doing everything he could to get in the mix. Maybe we get something from him this season, we know he has the talent.
The same hit would apply if we trade him as cut him...the bonus would still be accelerated. I've been saying this all along when his name is brought up, because it's usually followed with "why don't we cut him"...at any rate, because of the hit, he'll have to be given a chance to show his wares in TC...maybe we can still get some production from him...perhaps he just had a bad year last year...I don't know, but he certainly looks to be under the card marked "Bust"....
No offense, but I don't think he came to camp with the kind of attitude you're thinking. The things I've heard from him from the press makes him sound more humble than you're making him out to be. Obviously having a good attitude and great competitiveness does not make you a starter, so it's unfair to say something like that.
We don't cut sticky-fingers Wilford bc then we would have no one good on our practice squad for our mediocre Corners to cover. It's not like he has to catch the ball in practice! Posted via Mobile Device
There is always a chance that last year was an aberration .He may have had some physical or phsycological problems we dont know about . This regime has not talked about it because it would reduce any possible trade value he may have or because they would have to admit they made a mistake. The dropoff in production is just too pronounced to be a normal situation IMO
That's not correct. Ireland specifically stated that signing him was a mistake. But I still think he deserves one more shot. Rumor has it that he was injured a lot last year. And of course he's never gonna be a dynamic #1 WR but he's got talent and if we're gonna have to pay him anyway we might as well keep him around and see what we can get out of him. I still think he can be useful to us.
I think it was the front offices bust. He had one good season and that was in 2005. Then he got worse for two straight years before coming to Miami. The front office signed him because of his size, definitely not because of his production and they were wrong about him.
At this point if we got that it would be ripping someone else off Truly the worst FA signing the Dolphins have ever made. I really can't think of a worse one. Even Culpepper at least started 4 games for us.
Especially considering our huge gaping hole with regards to big redzone targets or big targets in general at WR.
My point exactly. Even just running a fade from 10 yards out he could be useful, situations where he doesn't need to gain seperation and can just use his size. I'm not complaining because the staff knows best, but at the same time it's curious there was NO use for him at all.
