Nintendo officially announced Punch Out for Wii. Punch-Out!! enters ring on Wii - News at GameSpot I've never been a big fan of the flailing around that Wii Sports boxing is made of, so I'm not sure what control scheme they're gonna go with. I'm sure it'll be rejoiced as the greatest boxing title of all time. This and Mario and Luigi RPG 3 coming in 09, and the Wii might have 2 more games.
Sin and Punishment 2 may be a pretty good game. The original on the 64 is beloved by many. I don't see how they can charge full price for a game like Punch-out Wii because, well it doesn't look like it has much going on. It was a classic on the NES but how deep can that style of play be for this generation?
Of course the difference is the flailing (good adverb MM) around one has to do with the Wii. I do like the boxing in Wii Sports, but it is very limited. I might have to entertain the idea of this one. If I do, i will be sure to report back here
Well, then I will be sure to go right out and buy it Seriously bro, any more in-depth? What's good about it? Whats lacking? I bought the Wii mostly because I have small kids around, and because I already have a gazillion Game-cube games (Fully Compatible)...but MOR is correct. Not many good games to date. I have a contract at blockbuster for a month where I can keep tradeing games back and getting new ones. I have come home with 8 to date. I would consider buying 1. Keep in mind that most of the games I have tried so far ARE for very young kids, but most of them are absolute GARBAGE.....DONT EVER TRY GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE...CRAP CRAP CRAP.
Some new Punch-Out!! Wii info Get your gloves on and return to the ring – Punch-Out!! is making a comeback! Originally a hit on the Nintendo Entertainment System back when boxers still fought for 15 rounds, the newest installment in the series comes out swinging on Wii. An intuitive control scheme takes you closer to the action in the ring than ever before! Unleash hooks, uppercuts and Star Punches by swinging the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, or flip your controller sideways to enjoy the classic NES control scheme. As big-hearted Bronx brawler Little Mac, you’ll have to launch a one-man assault on the boxing world as you bid to become undisputed champ of the Minor, Major and World ranking organisations. Along the way you’ll lock horns with the likes of Glass Joe, Don Flamenco and the hard-hitting King Hippo. A total of 13 flamboyant fighters stand in your path, every one with a creative new way of trying to make sure you end up face-down on the canvas. Thankfully, Little Mac can fight back. Armed with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, punching is a simple case of taking a swing at your opponent whilst holding different combinations of buttons. Soften them up with jabs by pressing up on the Nunchuk Control Stick when you punch, or crash home a super-charged Star Punch by holding the C or A Buttons as you let your hands go. Of course, if you intend to master the sweet science you’ll have to learn how to hit and not get hit. Punch-Out!! calls on you to keep a close eye on your opponents and learn their attack patterns – hopefully leaving them swiping at fresh air and open to a crashing counter. If it all sounds like a lot to remember when the leather starts flying, you’ll be glad to know the game features a helpful tutorial mode to make sure you get to grips with the basics before you climb through the ropes. Ultimately, you’ll no doubt want to make sure you’re rightfully recognised as the pound-for-pound king of the ring. Punch-Out!! includes a multiplayer mode that lets you and a friend slug it out to the bitter end. As in the single player mode, you’ll want to land punches at the right moment to build up Star Punch points that translate into almighty haymakers! Landing and dodging blows in Head-to-Head mode also builds up a Giga Mac gauge. Once full, your fighter is ready to inflict some serious damage. Have you always thought you could have been a contender? Then get ready to rumble in the all-action Punch Out!! for Wii. Nintendo UK
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?threadid=1331559 Link has a way to get a $10 gift card to Best Buy with purchase of Punch Out for $50. Pretty good deal if you were planning on getting it right away.
GT reviewed it and gave it an 8.5 http://www.gametrailers.com/video/review-punch-out/49382 I'm a little disappointed to be honest (with what I've seen in the review). Very few characters. And seems like the motions controls aren't good enough. No online. I dunno. That being said, I expect it to leak any day now. So, I can't wait.
IGN gave it an 8.8, but really after reading the review I am not sure how it got that high. I guess compared to other wii games it deserves an 8.8, I don't know.
ton of fun to play. classic game. Great style/graphics. if anything this game's only flaw is that its not entirely 'new'. It stays very true to its origins and because of that, what we're getting is mostly a newer version of an older game. As a reviewer you have to decide whether or not to dock it points for staying true to a classic design.
I love this game, if only for nosatlgia's sake. This is one of those games that is a joy to play, and takes you back to the good ol' days. The gameplay is super tight, it's like getting onto a bike after you haven't ridden in a number of years, it takes about 10 seconds and you're back in the saddle. And the cel-shaded graphics are bright and smooth. Negatives are that it is a bit short, the difficulty is lacking (sign o' the times, unfortunately), and Mr. Sandman isn't quite the imposing boss that Mike Tyson was. This is a game you NEED to play (if you liked MTPO and SPO).
nintendo is so fail...they pretty much ruined there shot at making the new punch out. when i think of nintendo i think of missed opportunities: their online system is fail no high def the controllers are gimmicky and only good for certain things and the graphics are just flat out bad on tons of the games...mario galaxy looks good and a few others but overall it is just poor it is shocking to me how they have sold so many units and where the hell is wii sports 2? or a tennis game that has some depth that uses the same good motion as wii sports? or a bowling one?
I'm not saying anything you said is wrong but... I'd love to fail the way Nintendo has the past two years. All the way to the bank.
The graphics aren't bad. They aren't as good as PS3 or 360, but they aren't bad. Plus playing games for the graphics is dumb anyway IMO. My favorites game all came off the NES and SNES....not exactly graphic loaded. The controllers can be annoying at times, but usually a non issue to me. I've never had an issue with online play, but I only really play Madden and Super Smash Bros. Brawl so I can't comment on that. No Hi-Def doesn't bother me either. It looks just fine on my screen. Not to say everyone has to like it, but it isn't fail.
I recently picked up both UFC Undisputed and Punch-Out! ... thus far I love them both. From a fighting simulator standpoint, UFC is obviously where it's at. That said, I'm more of an old-school guy most of the time, and Punch-Out is an old-school arcade style title that I can play for 30 minutes or so and feel very satisfied with. (By the way, I'm currently stuck on Super Macho Man, after figuring out Aran Ryan, breezing through Soda Popinski, and going to an all-out war with Bald Bull. I haven't had any complaints about any of the fighters - they don't feel cheap at all.) Generally speaking, I love the old-school feel this game has, from the way the game plays, to the music, and even graphics standpoint. I really don't know how you could hate this game, especially if you liked (or, in my case, loved) the first two games in the series. If I had one quibble with the game it would be that the motion controls seem to be an afterthought, especially at higher levels. I finally gave up on using them after getting to Piston Hondo - I just need to have faster reflexes to be able to dodge the Piston Punches. Still, it's nice that they're there, they just seem to be useless. Overall I think it's a very solid title, and if you liked the first couple of games you deserve to at least check this one out - though it is a bit short so you may consider trying to beat it over a weekend instead of spending 50 bucks on it at the store.
tons of wii games are played with the controller sideways because the motion controls were "slapped on as an afterthought" this leaves you with a controller that isn't even as good as the snes one final fantasy crystal chronicles looks better on the ds than on the wii. true story
The sideways controller isn't hard or bad, I actually like it. The DS is also Nintendo....so I dont see why that would be nintendo fail.
I guess some people care about graphics a lot more than I do. Personally I don't understand it at all. I just care if the gameplay is good. It's not like the Wii graphics are BAD.
Some of their graphics are indeed fundamentally bad. And you seem to be thinking we don't care about gameplay which is indeed false when we talk about want HD graphics. Amazing graphics (just like great sound or music) can go a long way to enhancing the overall experience of a game. It does not replace gameplay, but it can add to it. Would you like Zelda games as much if you played them on mute the whole time? Graphics can work the same way. After becoming accustomed to watching HD basketball for example, I can't help but feeling like an SD game was washed with sand beforehand when I see it now. It is a similar experience with the Wii. Games like Mario Kart and Okami can overcome the lack of HD because of how good of games they are overall. FFVII which is a great game would be even better if it had updated graphics. Just look at what an update in graphics has done for Punch Out! Many people are eating it up, even though it is essentially the same game as before. Has the basic gameplay changed? No, just the graphics.
there is no denying that nintendo has cleaned up this generation. i just feel they are like snake oil salesman
no substance, all gimmick to get people to buy it. this is my opinion really. many bought it for wii sports, which i agree was very cool...but other than that? it's really pretty unimpressive.
Spoken like a l337 hater. Nintendo is a bunch of n00bs, they are pwn3d by all other game companies, blah blah blah.
Wait 'till you fight Mr. Sandman. That sonofabitch is a tricky one! His punches have awkward timing, and it's no walk in the park.
Some of the critiques of the Wii are justified. But it is a system worth owning for $250 IMHO. A lot of horrible games, but a few that are worth waiting form. Brawl, Zelda, Galaxy, Wii Sports, and the Virtual Console. Not sure about Punch Out yet. Picking it up tomorrow.
My main point I was trying to convey, is the missed opportunities by Nintendo to truly be deserving of their acclaim. The potential of what they have is really high but it feels like a bottle rocket...you light it in anticipation, watch it shoot up in awe and enjoy the explosion...and then all you have left is a burnt stick that stinks
