Wii Play is not a good product. If it didn't come with a controller it wouldn't sell as well. Also if the majority of the people who play the games bought their own games on the wii then wii play would hardly sell. Realistic violence you mean? Because I would argue that most of Nintendo's best games have violence in them. When's nintendo going to get a worthwhile racing sim on the wii by the way? PS: I play my Wii in widescreen, and I am pretty sure for any video source to be in HD it has to be widescreen to some degree. So I don't think you have to say widescreen HD, unless of course you are trying to say you want games in 21:9.
I know, but a game can't be HD w/o being widescreen, so saying widescreen HD is redundant. That's all I meant. And sadly, I don't even think all Wii games can do 480p. They all certainly are not traditional widescreen games.
I am pretty sure Nintendogs and Brain Age were on one of the Gameboy systems first and the other two don't really seem to be game franchises with any sort of story line or point. Don't get my wrong Nintendo has been wonderful this generation but game wise they have been a waste.
Are you saying that Nintendogs and Brain Age were never on the Game Boy or that they existed there first? Because if it is the former Nintendogs debuted in 2005 on the DS a year before the Wii and Brain Age debuted on the DS in April of 2006 whereas the Wii didn't release until November of that year. So actually both games predate the Wii.
No no no my friend I am just pointing out that the Wii itself has not contributed any new franchises to the gaming world.
Nintendo doesn't need new IPs. They have mario, Zelda, and metroid. I realize this is considered a 'negative' for nintendo. That all they do is create more games revolving around their bread and butter characters. But the truth of the matter is, Mario Galaxy was awesome. Twilight Prince, while it felt like a rehash of Ocarina of time, was still awesome. Metroid prime 3 was awesome. And the next iteration of these series will, indeed, be awesome. The same way everyones awaiting God of war 3, Gran Turismo 5, Halo, Gears, etc, I await the next mario game. ...and halo...and gears...and gta...
My only problem with Twighlight Princess is that it is a gamecube game that was played off as a original game for the wii.
true. I actually played it on the cube. Didnt get a wii til about a year after. Still great tho on the cube.
he didn't say a new nintendo franchise, he said the WII hasn't brought any new franchises, and i responded with MadWorld.
Okay let me reiterate I call a game something that has an actual storyline and a point. If I may I will compare it to films. Wii Sports/Play/Fit are equal to a movie like "An Inconvenient Truth" while yes it is a movie it is so in name only, its actually just a bunch of PowerPoint slides. Wii Sports/Play/Fit are just mini-games (ie PowerPoints) that are all shoved together and called a game (in the same way "An Inconvenient Truth" is called a movie). So yes they are a games but they aren't really new franchises that have an actual point just as you couldn't say "An Inconvenient Truth" is a movie in the way "The Dark Knight" was a movie.
well, the inconvenient truth is more important to the world than the dark knight...so are you saying wii fit/play/sports are more important to the world than other games? Eh? Also, whats the storyline/point to all sports games?
This is why I love this forum. Seriously this could be argued for days but to me Wii Play/Fit/Sports will never be a viable franchise like Gears, Resistance, or some classic like Sonic or Mario.
well in each game of wii play and wii sports, you do have a winner and a loser. One may not get much satisfaction from winning, but there is a point to it. And the point to wii fit is to monitor your weight and try to lose a few pounds. Sure, its not a videogame related goal but rather it's trying to be something more.
I'm a much bigger fan of his "It doesn't matter which part of the bus you get on, as long as your on the bus" speech
Can you do seasons in wii sports or play? How about the logging of numerous stats and/or achievements? How much strategy is there? And I haven't argued anything about wii fit, it is frankly not a game IMO though wii fit may contain (mini)games though.
That's because all the attention went to the people who were playing the game, they were the ones who got made fun of.
I never said that. I was merely answering what the point was about sports games. Then I asked if those two games did those things. Go check my posts,I said wii sports was a new franchise that nintendo did this generation.
And Med, I own a wii fit (bought it on day 1 actually). But it is not a game. It is software and hardware sure, and in the software there are games, but wii fit itself is not a game. It's closer to a virtual private trainer/coach.
I once went to an arcade in Ann Arbor, Michigan with my friend. He swore to us (his g/f and I) that he would never play DDR again as he had once seen a video of what he looked like doing it. Well we convinced him to play and we watched him (not having played in well over 6 months at least) bust out near perfect levels. It was crazy. I couldn't do what he did, and I didn't make fun of him, but there are plenty of people who play that should be made fun of because of their attitude (this is true about most games).
I'd say there is more strategy in Pac-man than wii-sports. When did I say wii-sports isn't a game by the way?
You mean like that Ski Jump and Snowboard Slalom? Wasn't really all that fun to be honest. Nice for about the first few tries but just not that compelling. I have a staff discount at the John Wooden Gym (and other services as well) here at UCLA for $80 a year but a lot of smaller non-chain gyms around here have $90-100 annual. Even the 24 hour and Ballys have periodic deals around that price. What a friend of mine did at 24HR was threaten to cancel so they gave him free months and total was still under $100 yearly because of it. And you can always train for free at home.
I don't think Wii Fit ruins anything, I just think it looks stupid, that's all. Don't get all butthurt about it. This happens everytime anyone dares say something about anything Nintendo makes. I'm a soldier [well ex-soldier as of a week ago] and the idea of using a little electric pad with a video game to get in shape makes me laugh. Just my perspective. And comparing a doctor to Wii Fit is ridiculous to say the least. Biggest stretch of a comparison I've seen in some time.
Killzone 2 is the fastest selling first party game for the ps3. Selling over 500k so far http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/09/killzone-2-has-speedy-run-to-500k-sold/
