Juve played real well yesterday, but it goes to show you how important it is to get an away goal. It was their own fault they're not going through, but I'm happy with what I saw yesterday as they were the better side on the night Giovinco was brilliant! And they had 6 Italians start and 2 Italian subs. The Chiellini sending off was way harsh, but at that point it may have already been too late. Iaquinta's goal and setup was a thing of brilliance. Oh well, there's always next year.
Roma definitely should've went through. What a shame. Juve had Chelsea on the ropes but failed to take advantage. Inter were simply outclassed. Milan, who aren't even in the tournament, prove once again that in Europe they're the class of Italy. The one year that they're not involved Italian teams are out before the QFs. But I will get my hopes up for next year because the last time no Italian teams made the QF was I believe 2001-2002. The following year, 2002-2003, 3 Italian teams made the Semi-Finals and we had an all Italian final in Juve and Milan.
One final thought on Italian teams. After the 1st leg I thought that they were well behind the English teams in terms of ability and strength. But I must say that after the 2nd leg of this round, the gap is not as wide as I once imagined. I don't think many will argue that the English teams are the worlds strongest at the moment and for the past 2 years, but after seeing Roma and Juve really take it to Arsenal and Chelsea I realized that they're not as far apart as I previously thought. I know it's far away, and I've said it twice before in this thread, but I'm really looking forward to what Italy can do in next year's CL (especially Juve as I think they have a good core of young players who are really maturing with each cap).
If Roma was the better side yesterday, Arsenal should have beaten them about 5-0 in the first leg, so the end result seems fair, even if the road to that result was odd.
You'll get no argument from me there. They toyed with Roma in London. The ref did miss a penalty against Arsenal at the end of the 1st half yesterday though. I'm not sure who, but the Arsenal player clearly took the Roma player down from behind. If the Mexes call 2 weeks ago was a penalty (which it was), then so was that one yesterday.
UEFA can't be too sorry about the prospect of an Arsenal-Man U semi. Also, I see Liverpool and Chelsea are playing for roughly the 546th time in the last 5 years.
Things are getting interesting in the Premier League http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/report?id=244054&league=ENG.1&cc=5901 http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/report?id=244055&league=ENG.1&cc=5901 Eh, Toronto FC won yesterday too. http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/report?id=260862&league=USA.1&cc=5901
Hey guys, in honor of my fav player, Inzaghi, I thought I'd carry a sig of his. I made this recently. I know, I know, there are two "p"s in Pippo, and I will adjust accordingly. He just scored his 300th goal in the Serie A, and that is quite a feat. Also, Ronaldo is a GREAT player, but I hate the fact that he dives so much, and thought this pic is very funny, and wanted to share it with you guys. It's Dolphin related too.
Nice work man! Congratz to "Pipo" on his 300 goals in serie A! Inzaghi has been great for us, he takes advantage of every opportunity he gets and celebrates with the same passion as when he was younger. I made this last week just for fun. @ Ronaldo's pic
No Cassano for Lippi? WTF? The Italian coaches have a man-crush on Di Natale that I just don't understand... Cassano is the best forward in Italy sans Ibrahimovic at the moment. Simply mind-bogling. Not only Di Natale, but Rossi over Cassano too?! I love Lippi as much as anyone else, but this decision is just wrong. He's taken this little feud way too far now. I'd also have to consider Giovinco soon with the way he's playing. I hope come next year that Giovinco makes Lippi have to make a tough decision.
Yeah, I'm really beginning to get fed up myself. Cassano can change a game at any moment. He's so dynamic. Let bygons be bygons and put the better guys out there. I was never really a fan of Di Natale, but you can't really say he hasn't earned his spot. T minus 2 hours, but Italy never makes it an "easy" win, or "easy" qualification for that matter. Guys always make it closer than it should be, but in the end, well, we know what happens.

Oh well, at least they won.[/QUOTE] It's on Senanta Cannavaro got away with only a yellow when it should have been a red dumb, dumb, dumb hand ball to give Italy the penalty shot. The guy just put his hand out blantantly. terrible defending
It somewhat exciting, but I sure thought that it was a sloppy game. Beasley and the guy wearing #16 played lousy games. The sirens the El Salvador fans had going most of the game was distracting.
Well they were at home playing a not so good team, so they should have won. Also it was baffling to see the Russians wearing Florida State colors today
Pavlyuchenko's first goal was some awful goalkeeping too. the ball went right through his hands. Just terrible. And I didn't understand the uniforms either. Aren't their home uni's usually red or white or blue? weird
Italy could have basically clinched a spot in 2010 with a win but the Irish tie it up in the 89 minute terrible coverage here in Canada so I saw nothing Italy did play with 10 men since the 4th minute so basically the whole game 1-1 final Anyone who has seen highlights or has info please supply
tvgolo.com has highlights for ALL soccer games world wide. GREAT SITE!!! Italy isn't up yet, but give it a few hours, or at worst, you can see them tomorrow for sure. http://www.tvgolo.com You can browse through the main list conventionally, "next page" etc, or you can browse by competition; Serie A, Premiere League, Champions League, etc by clicking on the appropriate flag on the top of the screen. Don't worry about Italy bro, we'll make it. Ireland took 86 mins to score with an extra guy. LMAO. We're good !!
I know Pazzini elbowed O'Shea really bad for the Red card. Oshea was bleeding pretty bad I heard. A deserved red. If I were Lippi he'd never see the Italian team for the rest of my tenure. You come in in your 2nd F'in game and cost your team 3 points in a crucial match....SEE YA!!! I heard from my father that Ireland had an onslaught at the end. Italy was lucky to tie. When you play with 10 men for an entire game you can't blame them. That's a lot of tired legs out there. I'd send Pazzini packin and bring in Cassano....it's a NO BRAINER!!! And if not Cassano, give Di Vaio another chance. He's been on fire for Bologna. Hell, bring in the arrogant Balotelli. Just get Pazzini out. There's no room for that crap, especially in your 2nd game!
I wasn't that bad, honestly. Not intentional by any means. Either way, I'm on board for bringing in Cassano, but I wouldn't hold it against Pazzini for what happened.
I'm now also reading conflicting reports that state it wasn't that bad and the call was harsh. I may have spoken prematurely.
Being Irish guys, I can honestly say that Pazzini was unlucky to get sent off. It seemed more like O'Shea ran into his elbow, even though Pazzini did have his elbow out. I really dont think the intent was there. As for the game, Ireland battered Italy, who in the end were very lucky to get a draw from the game. I can still see Italy winning the group and in all honestly if Ireland could keep hold of 2nd place I would be delighted. Bulgaria are still very much in the mix and in all honestly should have beaten Ireland on Saturday and that was without Berbatov. Should be an interesting end to the group guys. PS. Understand that some of you guys did'nt see the game, so I have a link to the highlights (Know its a bit late but its there if you have'nt seen the highlights.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeUm...qualifier-highlights/&feature=player_embedded
Disappointing second half from Liverpool today. Poor tackling in the second half and a loss at Anfield. Ouch.
Can still see Liverpool turning it around at Stamford Bridge. After all they did beat Chelsea there this season already and also beat Man United well in Old Trafford.
It's going to be tough though, a 1-0 win will do no good. They have to win 3-0, 4-1, 5-2 etc. or 3-1 and win in the shootout.
