Ernest going to Dolphins camp? http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_football_dolphins/2009/03/wondering-about-wilford.html
Lets hope that this year will bring much needed improvement for him. What a let down he was last year.
Last year Wilford stunk early in camp, so we will know soon enough if he is improved or if he played Halo 3 all off season.
Hopefully he doesn't continue to flop as badly as the movie did!! Hardy har har. Posted via Mobile Device
I say if we get everyone signed (rookies included) and are still $5-$6 mill under the cap, cut him this season so we don't have to carry the cap weight into next season. We might have a large chunk to eat now, but it will be beneficial to have ALL of the extra cap room going into next off season.
I'd rather we give the playing time to Brandon London but there's no point in cutting Wilford if it's going to cost us more than keeping him on the roster.
Wilford is a 30 year old receiver coming off of a 3 catch season. While it would be hard not to better that output, I find it hard to believe he survives training camp without being cut. Heck, I half expect to see him get cut on June 1, when we can absorb the cap hit against next year.
So if he has a 9 catch season, can we nominate him for comeback player of the year?? That's like a 300% improvement!
Exactly, and he could turn it around as well, for the first time in years he should be as 100% as he ever will be, and he was better previously then anyone we have on the roster. I do hope they ride his backside this Traning Camp until he proves himself as a NFL starting calibur wideout...again..
Ok so nobody did this one yet.. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiUact2e7kM"]YouTube - ERNEST GOES TO CAMP in 5 Seconds[/ame] Know what a'mean Vern?
Wilford caught 3 passes in 2008. People think he sucks and should be cut. London caught 3 passes in 2008. People think he's awesome and think he should get a chance to start.
You're not being serious, are you? London was a 1 year player signed for cheap and expected to be "developed" Wilford was a 5 year vet given a pretty substantial amount of money with the expectation that he had already "developed" A little perspective?
noody knows why this putz did not perform like he was expected, you cant ever get anything out of sparano cause he always sticks up for his players, all year i kept hearing how hard he was practicing and how he was doing everything the staff wanted him to do AND how he was improving every week......what a crock of sh#$.
How about Drew starts with an explanation of what the hell is wrong with his client to begin with. To be most improved, you have to suck in the first place. He was paid to be good. Where's the explanation? I won't believe something is going to be fixed if no one even knows what's wrong.
The routes I'm guessing we run are probably too damn complicated for a slow as molasses receiver like him to run. I would think he should be money around the goal line though with that frame, those arms, size, and 40 inch vertical. We should probably use him in that role this season as a red zone specialist.
If he is a 5 year vet and cannot get these fundamentals down, I don't see how he is going to outperform any of the other receivers.
I'm thinking he is like Yatil Green without the speed, without the vertical, without the hands, but with all the same knee problems. They have robbed him of his once-blistering 4.77 speed. Now he hobbles his 40 about as fast as an O-lineman, and comes out of his breaks with enough time to yell "Tim-ber!" before he goes. Poor guy is supposedly a hard worker, but it just ain't happening for him.
I don't believe there are June 1 cuts this year...something to do with the last capped year of the CBA....at any rate, as I understand things, we take the full cap hit of cutting him, not spread out over two years as in the past... That said, I think he is still cut near TC time after they've given him time to work the offseason program and see if he's improved any. If he gets into camp, he probably still will be cut, but it'll be later towards the end of camp...IMO
