Maybe they broke up too soon, or had members leave or die tragically. Whatever the case may be, sometimes you wonder what they could have been like if they have put out more music.

So, who would be on your list? I've got Cream and Boston as my top 2.

Seriously though, I would have loved to see the Doors put out more music. I always liked Jim Morrison and can't imagine what he and the boys would have done with even just 10 more years together.

For me it would be the band ANGEL. Regarded as probably the first prog metal band, they came out in the mid 70's and were signed to the same label as KISS, Casablanca.

Unfortunately for them, their management and the label thought they'd do better as a pop band, and they sunk to record a couple of crappy radio friendly albums before fading away. Their first two albums though, "Angel" and "Helluva Band", are early prog metal masterpieces.

    [IMG] [IMG]

They recently reformed, and I had the pleasure of opening up for them when they came through town. That's me with lead singer Frank Dimino. :D

That's awesome! Blackmore is da man. And I agree with the Rainbow comment-too bad Ritchie is so hard to work with/for, allegedly.

I'll add Sublime to the list.. 40 OZ's to Freedom is one of my favorite albums of all time.

As long as we're mentioning groups whose careers were cut short by untimely deaths, add Alice in Chains and Blind Melon to the discussion.

Good call on CCR. Forgot about them.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is a good one too.

I love the Allman Brothers and saw them at Jones Beach a few years back and thought they were decent at best. They went way over the top with the guitar solos and drum solos. It's awesome for a few minutes, but their solos went on for over 20 minutes at times. Maybe it was just an off night though, because I've heard they're usually pretty great live.

It was for Duane that I included them, they are nothing like they were but I have seen them 5-6 times and Dickie solo anyway.

Alice in Chains and Blind Melon for sure for me but those were death related.

I wish Chris DeGarmo and Geoff Tate had been able to work together so Queensryche could have stayed together because Queensryche without Chris DeGarmo is a fraud.

Sparta is a band that is "on hiatus" right now but I think they are done which REALLY sucks.

Faith No More had just recorded two straight outstanding records (King for a Day....Fool for a Lifetime and Album of the Year) but years of bickering and Mike Patton's weirdness killed them.

I love Blind Melon. I think they are actually very underrated. People hear the name and think "No Rain" but they are missing on a lot of great stuff. "Soup" was a brilliant record from beginning to end.

I actually saw them in a small club in Vancouver last year. They found a new singer and recorded an album. The album is actually quite good and the singer was a lot like Shannon Hoon. The pulled off all the old stuff great but it was cool to hear the new stuff as well.

Unfortunately, the new singer went off the rails and was fired not too long after the show I saw. They were going to complete the tour with Chris Shinn as the singer (he was the singer/guitar player in Unified Theory, a band that the guitar player and bassist from Blind Melon formed after Hoon's death) but they could not get it reorganized in time.

If you like Blind Melon try to find some stuff by Unified Theory. Tracks I'd look for are "California", "Cessna", "AM Radio", "Instead of Running" and "The sun will Come". Very cool stuff IMO. I saw them a half dozen times in 18 months when they first formed.

I'll add to this and say that Blind Melon's other songs besides No Rain are wonderful. I haven't heard a single thing of theirs that I can't get into... and i've heard three of their albums many times.

    Sabbath with Dio

I don't care what any of you say, Dio kicks Ozzy's ***. Sabbath was never better than when Dio was the frontman.

    Two words:

    Heaven and Hell
    Mob Rules

Best albums ever made by Sabbath.

John Lennon and George Harrison, as solo artists (if you can list Jimi, I'll put in John).

To be perfectly honest, its probably a good thing that some of these bands broke up and never put out ****ty records. The Beatles never got to embarrass themselves by making a crap record. The Stones have put out some stinkers in the past 20 years (Emotional Rescue, Dirty Work, Bridges to Babylon, Bigger Bang to name a few) Something to be said about knowing when to quit.

Um....bro? In case you haven't heard, Sabbath and Dio have been touring for the past few years under the name Heaven & Hell, and their new album comes out next month. :wink2:

Technically, Lizzy's still together. Scott Gorham and John Sykes have been touring with Tommy Aldridge and Marco Mendoza. We opened for them twice a couple of years ago.
