As I sit here trying to type this, I'am wiping tears away from my face. I put down my dog of 14 today:sad:. Pudy was her name and as hard as this is, I know she is in a better place now. She got very old over the past several weeks and I knew deep down that the end was near. I've slept on the floor everynight for the past couple of weeks so that she could be next to me. I really don't feel like going into details right now, but I can tell you that she is no longer suffering.

I was able to whisper into her ear right before she passed away..........
    "Thank You"
    "I Love You"
    "Be in Peace"

Even though the choice to put her down was the right thing or best thing to do, it doesn't stop the pain of her going away. The only comfort I have today is knowing that she isn't suffering anymore.

Be in Peace Pudy, I love you

    Steve

I'm so terribly, terribly sorry for your loss. She clearly had an amazing 14 years. If there is anything I can do, please don't hesitate to ask.

Aww, sorry to hear that brother. Just find comfort in the fact that you gave her a great life and alot of love. That's all any dog really wants and you were able to provide that, as evidenced by your dedication to sleeping on the floor to keep her comforted. Losing a friend is never an easy thing, but at least she isn't in pain.

Thoughts and prayers for strength and comfort. :(

Your unselfish act is admirable. I am sorry for your pain, and I understand. It does get somewhat better, yet pets have such a hold on us, dependency and unconditional love, that we carry that. Thank you for giving love to a dependent being and making the unselfish choice. All my best.

Brother Steve, sorry for your loss of Pudy. She is in a better place bro. She is not suffering any longer. I know of your very fond attachment of her. I have three dogs, and I refer to them as my kids, since we don't have any real kids of our own. May she rest in peace.

:( I'm sorry for your loss Steve. The fact she isn't suffering any more and in a better place should at least take away some of the pain. Cherish the memories bro. They'll always be there for you.

I'm sorry for you, Steve. It always gets a little dusty in here when I hear about someone losing a pet. My cat has been with me for about 8 1/2 years, and I'll be devastated when the day comes that I have to put her down. (Hopefully that won't come for another decade.)

    Thanks everyone!

I lost Max (see banner that CrunchTime made) in 2006. He was 2 months shy of 16. I know that Pudy is back with Max tonight. After Max passed away, I found another dog and his name is Spook. Spook is about 2 1/2 years old and it's going to be him and I for a while.

I'm not married nor do I have any kids, so my dogs have always been my family. Some people just don't understand, but that's okay

BTW, I got the name Pudy from two sources. I used to call every dog "pooch" when I was a kid and the movie Rudy, so I just combined the two and came up with "Pudy".

Very very sorry to hear of your loss brother.

I do understand, as a very very faithful German Sheppard was my soul mate for the better part of 12 years (I also wasnt married or kids). Its a tough tough thing to go through...

God Bless you brother, and if course God is currently blessing Pudy first hand.

Man thats awful. Its very depressing losing a family member that has been with you that long. My experience is much like yours we had a cat for 18+ years long story short she was nearing her end but she spent every min with someone with the family including sitting with us while we watched tv or sat next to me while I played video games. One day when I got back from school my mom told me "its time to say good-bye" I was dreading the day in all my young childhood never really grown so attached to something this was a family member to me.

So already crying watching her struggle to breathe gasping I held in her arms while she passed on. I like to think she was waiting for me so we could say our good-byes.

Thats the one thing I hate about Pets in the end it hurts.

Steve, I know too well your pain, as I put down my 16-year old Jasper in February. Know in your heart you did the right thing. They count on us to do the right thing for them, and to not let them suffer unecessarily.

    Peace to you my friend.

When I was younger I had a Brindle Boxer named Buster. As a typical kid I played with him all the time... Then When I turned 9 or so we had to put him down because he had really bad knees (he was born without cartiledge in them) and was losing it mentally (he snapped at me and my parents a few times when he got into food he shouldn't have [chicken bones]). Lossing him was really bad, but after time I got through it.

For 2 years we didn't have another dog because my parents had my brother Andrew and didn't want to have a puppy and a baby at the same time. So that Christmas, 9 years ago, my parents got me and my brother a Brindle Boxer puppy for Christmas like we asked. I don't know what it was but when I saw that puppy I balled like a baby... to this day it is kind of embarrasing but my parents and grandparents where there and still remember me crying (and even have it one tape). I think seeing that dog just reminded me soo much of Buster and a bunch of memories came rushing into my mind. It was the strangest tears ever; I was happy I got a new dog, but so sad about my other dog and truely missed him. I guess as a kid seeing the other puppy truly meant the end to my other dog and that he wasn't coming back (Kids logic I guess).

Now, the dog we got that day is getting up there in age for a Boxer at 9 years old. We named him Bandit and he has been an absolute joy to have. When I am watching TV or Movies he will put his butt up on the couch and rest his head on the coffee table because he is not allowed on the couch. Its the little things like that I cherish. I love how excited he gets when I get the leash for him to go on a half jog/run with me. As a dog that hates swimming, I will always remember the time he jumped in the water after me because he thought I was drowning... The memories are all so very precious, and as my time winds down with him I am trying to enjoy what I have left.

I feel your pain and hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry for your loss Steve. I know the pain that you're going through. When Erica, our Doberman died, I was just about to drive the 6 hours to Gainesville and every minute was hard. I lost it in class the next day when I couldn't keep my emotions in check.

My mother called me a few months ago to tell me that Jake, the Russian Blue, I had left with her had to be put down and we were both a couple of messes.

The worst thing is the idiots who make fun of your grief. If you need someone to talk to, even by phone, I'll try to help. Just PM me.

I'm married, but unable to have kids, so I know what a dog can mean to you. My two are my kids. My naughty kids.

That is extremely sad and to be honest it choked me up a little. I couldn't imagine losing a close pet because they truly are part of the family. I've had one dog for 10 years and when she goes I know I'll feel like you are now. Some may say they are just animals but so are humans technically and I'll tell you this I would rather have the company of my dogs over most humans any day. They're always happy to see you and can make even your worst moments so much better.

Just be happy you were with her and that you gave her a good life and she gave you a lifetime full of memories. I wish you the best, steve.

That sucks big time Steve, I'm sorry to hear it. I got my first pet nearly 3 years ago (my cat Pepper) and I love her to death. I can't even think about her dieing. Heck when she was 6 months old we thought something was wrong with her bladder but she was just spraying and we had to get her fixed, but for about 2 hours there I thought she was going to die and all I could do was hold her and cry like a baby.

Final seconds, I was listening to her breathe as the vet gave her the shot. I heard her final breath:cry: I wiped the tears from her eyes several times, I've never seen a dog cry, but she did.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I remember when I was 16, we had to put my dog that had been my best friend since I was 5 to sleep due to health. Here I was, 16, long haired, torn jeans, Iron Maiden shirt dude who knew everything (because I was 16, man!) tough guy bawling like a little girl while I held her for her last breath. I still miss that dog-she was ugly and smelled like ***, but I loved her. It was years before I could get another one-glad you have a buddy to get you through it.

Sorry for your loss bro. She definately wasn't your first dog nor shall she be the last. They are just like people except we generally see their loving, loyal side and not the ugly side that we see from people on an everyday basis which makes it harder to know that there are two legged douchbags still walking around and our four legged friends have to leave us all too soon. I am truly sorry for your loss.

So do I dad, so do I.

It makes me choke a tear back everytime I hear of someone lossing a family member. I have lost a few wonderful animals in my short life and it is the same as lossing a best friend or a family member. Some people just dont get it that you would, without a thought, run into a burning building for them. THEY ARE A SHINNING LIGHT IN ALL OUR DAYS!!
