people would buy them illegally still like they do now. they need to be better regulated, I think a complete ban would cause a prohibition type era to occur again.

Not a complete ban but America really needs to crack down on gun control. Its too easy to get a firearm.

gun shows are the main thing in my opinion. And I stand by my assesment that things like bushmasters are not needed.

my condolences to the families of the slain and wounded officers. My father, grandfather, two GGrandfathers, three Uncles, two Cousins and several friends, including one of my best are, or were police officers. If you haven't grown up in a Cops family it is truly difficult to understand the true sacrifice that these men and women make daily on and off the job.

I remember the fear in my mothers eyes as she kissed my father goodbye when he left home to go help quell a race riot in the sixties. I remember the faces at the funeral of a slain officer that was friends with my father.. the children my own age now without a father... not knowing what to say because MY Dad was still alive.

I remember the mean comments to my Mom and the way the neighbors treated her, mostly behind her back. I remember the fights I had in school and in the neighborhood because, my father was a cop, especially in high school where some had been arrested by my Dad. There is a price that is paid by Police officers and their families that goes beyond just the danger of the job. Just look at the hateful comments we have seen here, on this very board by some. No one hates a bad Cop more than a Cop, but all the good ones are forgotten, along with their sacrifice as soon as one bad egg shows his face.

They are hero's, mostly unsung and forgotten... until you really need one. I watched my father disarm a fella that had just shot another man, and shot at everyone else on the fishing catwalks of Rickenbacker Causeway once.. I could hear my mother crying and praying the whole time it went down. Dad was unarmed. When the City of Miami Police finally arrived and came running down the embankment with drawn guns hollering "who has the gun who has the gun" a hysterical woman screamed "he does, HE does!" and pointed at my Dad.. I thought they were going to shoot HIM.. my Mother later slapped her for it, while my Grandmother tended the wounded man plugging the holes like we were in a wild west movie. Hero's they are, doing a job that costs them dearly. So when you see me get short with some of the hateful things that are said here perhaps you will understand.

Why would one have anything to do with the other? The bad acts of one group does not excuse the bad acts of another group.

never said it did. I said when other make large generalizations about how evil law enforcement is or about **** the police, or implying they deserve to be assaulted, they should remember that plenty officers die. Not sure where you are reading that.

I'm not sure where you're reading that police officers deserve to be assaulted. That's obviously ridiculous. I'm guessing you must believe it were here b/c otherwise you wouldn't place your admonishment here. I haven't seen any such behavior here. What I have seen here is people be critical of officers that behave inappropriately. The fact that there are psychos that shoot officers or others doesn't excuse the inappropriate behavior.

Well Ive seen references to rap songs and rappers who talk about killing officers, on threads about mis behavior by officers, and they seemed to be excused as ok. Which to me, means people find it acceptable. And again never said it excused the inappropriate behavior of police officers. Not sure why you keep bringing that up.

Raf.. some pretty evil things were said about "all" Police officers in the thread where the Dallas cop prevented the man from going to see his dying family member.. and that isn't the only place that has happened here. I think that is what was meant, things like that, not "this" thread specifically.

I read and participated in that thread in the club. I didn't see any horrible things. I think the worst thing said was somebody called cops "pigs".

You said that those that make generalizations about cops should remember that cops get killed. What does one have to do with the other?

I would say its a counter to the generalization to see a case where at least 3 officers died one of them who was off work. In other words 2 officers died protecting and serving, their job, and one died protecting and serving when he would not be held responsible for not doing so. This would definitely in my mind serve as an example of one instance of officers doing something positive.
So next time others make the generalization that officers have majority negative actions, I think most should remember this action and others like it where officers were responding to an already violent situation, to aid someone they do not know and paying the ultimate price in the process. My argument is not just merely cops get killed. It is the action of cops getting killed, while performing their duties. I do not think that is at all dis joined from the generalizations.

edit: In looking at my second reply to you I can see where I did say what you are saying. Not what I intended my mistake.

That is why I disdain with every fiber in my body, hip-hop music and culture. It really causes pain when I see the younger guys on the board here, and elsewhere admire these rappers, many of which are nothing more than street-hoodlums and their "so-called" music lyrics, which many times degrade not only police, but women, and other groups.

I don't understand the counter-culturalism contained in this phenomena :confused2:

well to be fair when groups like nwa and public enemy came out they were talking about something that no one else, not even the media would touch. That being corruption, racial profiling, the inner city, mass poverty, etc. I think now alot of it is dishonest and over blown, but it wouldn't be as such if people didn't buy it.
Don't get me wrong I like rap, and I appreciate it when its honest, and mostly when its written more for battle rap. I do not like it when its over blown and meant to just sell records. I am not referring to the lyrics as more as how people seem to quote them without fully understanding what they meant when they were first released on the radio and how people seem to want to live the lyrics without putting it into perspective.

If you're scared that Obama is going to take away your guns, the next logical thing to do is shoot 5 police officers. Show Obama his fears are misguided.

I know the guy had to be crazy. Just a terrible situation all over. Too bad he didn't shoot himself.
