Anything MTV makes scares me a bit but every now and then they have a show I like such as Rob & Big, Nitro Circus, and of course Jackass.

Eh, to me that is sort of pathetic, across the land there will be math club geeks and chess club types vicariously reliving the most embarassing moments of their lives as someone they don't even know is served some sort of MTV style beatdown as they recall the name of their former tormentors

"In 8th grade Tommy Swann beat me up at the skate park"

    Sad really.

No, I went through some bullying and it just motivated me to hit the weight room and play football then I beat the crap out of the fmr bullies and had no more problems.

The thought of millions of men and women glaring at a TV screen reliving that sort of thing is just sad to me.

Back in the day, things were brutal for those who couldn't really defend themselves, I suppose today things could be worse with all the instant communications and camera phones but still...let it go people..just..let..it..go.

    Seriously.

IMO, this is very pathetic for those guys who need all this help to get back at these bullies.

I watched a few of the episodes and it's as entertaining as it is sad. These nerds (whatever you want to call the guys who are getting "revenge") need to have pro MMA fighters beat up a guy who's beating them up. Ooook so how is that helping?

Yea, the nerds get to see the bully get beat up. But by someone else, not them. It just seems sad to me that these guys had to go cry to someone else to do what they couldn't. The one bully on the show even looked smaller than the kids he picked on.

I would love to see a "3 months later" recap of these shows. If you were the bully and you just got humiliated on TV because of these kids, wouldn't that give you all the more incentive to go and beat the **** out of them even worse than before?

    I know I would.

If they wanted to make this show more effective, they should take those nerds and train them with the MMA fighters for a month or so. Then, let the nerds fight their bullies.

At the very least, the bullies would probably have more respect for them after that.

i agree. so what? some jerk in real life will get beat in an organized fight by a professional? what is this proving exactly? the guy is still going to be a douche

my guess is the kid who wins 10K brags about it and then gets beat up again lol

There was on yesterday where the bully was 6-7 and like 260. He'd torn thru these guys' stuff, wrecked their car, owed a few thousand in back rent, etc. So in addition, part of the deal was that he'd move out if he got beat up.

Michael Westbrook (yes, that Michael Westbrook) ended up kicking his *** and the dude indeed moved out.

It may be contrived and such. But it's actually fun to watch. The host is funny and these dudes at least act like they think they're gonna whoop somebody's ***. They put two episodes into each 30 minute show.

Thanks Muck......I thought the show was hilarious, but I forgot that many of the posters on this board were the bully/jock type when younger and probably can't relate to being someone that is weaker, not by choice but by happenstance.

I got picked on mercilessly when I was younger, and I still enjoy it when I see a bully type douchbag get his, when he deserves it.

Well what other reason could someone have to not enjoy seeing some bully get the snot knocked out of him ? Maybe it was an assumption, but the bullying I recieved 35-40 years ago still hurts and I still have resentment. It was so nasty, and insidious and constant that it became a permanent part of my (wounded) psyche. So there, I was honest

It's not so much the bully getting beat up that I think is sad.

The part that bothers me is that these kids who got picked on need to go and have someoneone else (a pro MMA fighter in fact) go take care of their problem for them. Watching them act all giddy and commenting on the fights was too much for me. I really have no idea how that will solve anything for them after the show is over anyways. Like I said before, wouldn't the bully have even more reason to beat the **** out of them now?

And can someone explain why the hell these kids who got picked on are winning money from this?

I just think the premise is pretty ******ed. Train the kids to go fight the bully themselves, instead of doing it for them and then awarding them money for being picked on.

So what is this show telling them? Don't handle your own problems, ask or hope someone else deals with them for you.

    MTV is ***-backwards.

I think you assume as well bro. You assume that everyone can train and just VOILA be good enough to kick the jerks ***. Its not that easy. From what I have seen of some previews, its not only going to be young punks that are benefitting, but some later shows are going to have women, and older men that have been abused. One show it looks like one of the bullies is a bodybuilder, and if you know anything about bodybuilding, not everyone can build those kinds of pyhiziques.

So, we are watching the bullies get bullied? In fact you are support what you hated most. My family was so dirt poor I had to wear ragged hand me downs and was picked on relentlessly until I decided to fight back.

Guess it’s just not my thing, I don’t think I would enjoy making people feel they way I did, regardless of their past actions.

Like I said before, I think that they could at least try and train to fight the bully. I would think the bully would respect someone more who would try and stand up to them, instead of having to get someone else to do it.

It reminds me of when I was like 7 and everyone had "an older brother who could beat up your older brother."

Even if they trained, fought the bully, and lost, I still think that would be a better result. I would still be willing to bet that most of these kids got a much worse beating from the bully after these shows.

    No.

The bullies get confronted and have the opportunity to walk away or prove that they are still bad ***... They don't have to fight.

Kids that were bullied had no such options. You are a good example. You had to fight back or you would have been bullied forever.

    IMO.

Ok, I want to be clear, now I am being prejudice? This is not the first time I have seen you sling this out here, to me it would not have mattered who started it; I just wouldn’t like the show. If you do more power to you, but to put people down in this thread not once but twice is a subtle form of bulling in it self. I will not be pressured into conceding a point because someone thinks it is wrong to disagree.

If I could only see what I had been through, you would not question my honesty about not wishing this on anyone. I have gotten into it with other NCOs’ who think they are big and bad picking on lower enlisted. This action IMO is unacceptable no matter what. You treat everyone with respect, it’s the way I was raised.

Bully ~ to act the bully toward; intimidate; domineer

Is it not bullying to force one into a confrontation or face humiliation?

As for walking away, I disagree, anyone can walk away.

I hope to the few that are against this, that you never ask for and receive help in your life. Don't go to the doctor. Don't use a lawyer. Don't use a translator. Don't take your car to the shop. Don't call a repairman. Don't ask for directions.

I was bullied, until I took things into my own hands. I defended myself. I won some, I lost some. It didn't change much of anything. Some of them stopped bullying me, but they moved on to someone else. Some with all the training in the world, I wasn't gonna beat. I've defended others who were being bullied.

Point is, the bullied didn't choose to be bullied, the bullies call the shots. Giving the bullied a chance to have control of the situation, even if it's just once and doesn't change anything, is worth it.

The "bully" isn't forced into anything. Period. He gets to make the choice. He can swallow his pride and admit he was a douche or fight. If your pride gets in the way of doing the sensible thing, you have too damn much pride.

And while it it true that anyone can walk away, in my experience, that just gave the bully a chance to hit you while you weren't looking.

Very relevant. Don't be a wuss and go to a mechanic, take some initiative and learn how to fix it yourself. It is exactly the same thing.

You're essentially calling these guys out for being to pathetic to stick up for themselves and not take care of things themselves.

Losing self-respect and being physically abused can't be used in many analogies. Certainly not one that compares bullying to any business.

What does making a living have to do with the analogy? You can't just throw in conditions at will to prove your point. You either ask for help with things you can't fix or you don't.

You said it was pathetic for someone to ask for help with bullies. Not everyone can stop a bully. It is dumb testosterone fueled delusions like that, that generally lead into bullying in the first place.
