I agree Englund was Krueger. He pretty much made that character. But with special effects, tech, on and on it might work.
1 hour of content turned into an hour and a half of screen time because of 30 minutes of slow motion. How will Bay fit in the "slow motion dramatic scene with a woman crying, a soldier walking slowly towards the American flag with the REALLY bad music playing in the background" scene into a horror flick?
I can live with this. Believe me, there are much worse options out there. Ben Foster would have been my second choice-that dude's got the crazy written all over him.
The problem I have with the original, and this goes for Halloween, Friday the 13th, and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well, is that the subsequent sequels watered down the originals so much that the antagonists from the originals became caricatures of their original selves. I hope (yeah right) that whatever happens with these remade, or re-booted franchises, the powers that be don't allow the unavoidable sequels to go to crap.
On this we agree, but see Opie's post for my thoughts on the sequel problems... Couldn't have said it better. Now, that being said, the fact is they are re-making or re-booting or whatever this movie. At least, since it is inevitable, they chose a good actor with something of a physical resemblace to Freddy to play him. I mean, they could have cast Zac Efron, or that "Twilight" kid. I guess I'm just trying to find a bright side to a dark subject.
You want a bright side? Freddy's coming back! I'm stoked for this one, actually, Freddy was born when I was a teenager and he scared the **** out of me. I can't wait to see the creepy dream sequences re-done with modern effects and the new take on Freddy. The nice thing about this and other re-boots is the new original can take some of the good stuff from all the movies and incorporate it in the latest film. We knew very little about Freddy in the original NOES, but learned more as the films progressed. This flick could open up with a recap on Freddy when he was alive, then cut to the opening credits and on to the main film.
Jackie Earl Haley is a great choice IMO. Englund will always be "Freddy" but I can't imagine a better second choice.
