nor do I ever want to.

The idea of being at a crowded, loud place with nothing to do but watch people playing instruments has never appealed to me.

I'm sure I'm the only one. Discuss.

I've been to one, Dropkick Murphys in March, and it was a ****ing blast.

But thats cause they're my favorite band and I got the ticket for free.

I'd certainly never pay to go and will never go to a concert again, as much fun as it was, unless its Dropkick and the ticket is free again.

    Concerts are awesome.

I missed Ani Difranco three times and I'm still pissed about each and every one of them.

I used to rock out with my **** out back at the Hollywood Sportatorium. Saw some great shows back then, saw KISS at the West Palm Beach Auditorium (Now a Kingdom Hall for Jehovah's Witnesses LOL), saw GnR, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Ratt, Dio, Rough Cutt W.A.S.P. lotsa of good times as a teenager.

If it's too loud, you're too old!

I cannot relate to this at all. Nothing beats seeing a band playing music live. Hell, even unknown bands are fun-I stopped into B.B. King's Blues Bar in Orlando when I was home shopping for a house, and the house band was SMOKIN'. Hell, they were kicking out "Bell Bottom Blues" when I first walked in, and then went into an awesome version of "Folsom Prison Blues" that hooked me. I stayed for the next hour and a half just sipping beers and soaking it in.

Of course, this is all just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Probably the best show I saw was Forbidden and Testament at Summers on the Beach back in......88...89 or so. The Mosh pit was insane and police ended up macing everyone in it!

You can't experience that on HDTV.

The only one ive ever been to is a Poison concert like 2 years ago my wife dragged me to. And no, thats not the reason I hate concerts lol! ;)

I just dont like that kind of thing, crowds of people and blaring music arent my thing at all. There are very few musicians Id go and see live, but music isnt my thing really. I can understand why it would be fun for many people, but to me its just not a positive experience.

It's like being at a football game instead of watching it on TV. The whole crowd is there, singing (screaming) along. Joints are being passed between strangers, beer and blood and vomit coat the floors and the threat of violence is in the air. Celine Dion really puts on a hell of a show.

it takes a "music is more than a background noise" approach to understand it. I don't know if you have this idea or not so I can't say for sure but I know for a fact that I love music with every ounce of my being and experiencing the songs and emotion live is like nothing else... especially being a musician myself. I suppose that helps, somewhat.

    Quit stealing my answers!

Seriously, though-that is a really good comparison. The energy of a live performance vs. a studio album is hard to beat. You get to experience the skill of the player(s) and the passion they bring to the music, instead of just a sterile recording. And the crowd factor is nice, especially the whole "joints passed between strangers" thing.

You don't go to a concert for pure sound quality. There's something about seeing the music you've listened to and love being recreated in front of you that is a unique and pleasant experience.

With that said had you ever been to a Dead show you might feel differently. Too late now, though.

You get one of those 'anthem' songs going, where the audience sings the chorus....the pyrotechnics, the light show, it's all part of what makes it great. Then, for three days, your ears ring, you can barely talk, but you don't give a ****, you knew every word to every song!

And you haven't experienced life until you've been to Maiden show and sung along with the instrumental parts of "Fear of the Dark". Not just the lyrics, the MUSIC. Pagan will know what I mean.

    Live music > studio

It's like the difference between jacking off watching porn, and actually having sex with a real life woman. There's simply no substitute for the real thing.

    Live music is REAL.

Actually IMO, it is more like seeing someone paint live. I like art, but I've no interest in watching someone paint a painting.

I'm not saying I'm not weird, I clearly am in the vast minority. I was trying to understand the love of it.

I wonder though, for all the non-musician, concert lovers, if you'd enjoy a "concert" where everything was the same except the band wasn't playing live? Like what if you had a venue full of fans, and the band's cd was played really loud, would it really be all that different of an experience?

If that's all you care about then believe me...stay home. Because the root of the problem is that you have no idea what live music is supposed to be about.

Do you really think that listening to a Billy Joel or Elton John record can compare to watching them - pianos facing each other - singing each other's songs and feeding off each other's energy?

Do you really think you can listen to a KISS record and possibly compare that to seeing the spectacle that one of their shows is?

Go see Iron Maiden live and tell me that their show isn't as good as listening to a packaged and polished recording. Hearing Bruce yell "SCREAM FOR ME MADISON SQUARE GARDEN!" and hearing the crowd roar back...goosebumps.

If you've never been to one, you have no way of knowing.

I had the pleasure of seeing bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath live in their heyday. Nothing on any Zeppelin album compared to seeing them do "Dazed and Confused" live.

From my own experience, I've recorded 3 albums and am working on a fourth. I'll take being onstage over being in the studio any day of the week.

    It's no contest.

That's totally different. You should experience at least one concert, especially if there's a band that you really enjoy. I understand the crowd being an issue, I hate crowds myself, but for a good show, or a football game, when everyone is there for a good time it can be great.

Whoa now. They are almost exactly the same thing.

You have artists doing their thing live. Both have a "script" and both have the opportunity for anything to happen.

The only real difference is the crowds etiquette.
