How stupid can you be? I don't understand how someone can fail a drug test that they knew was coming!

I just dont get how some of these kids can be so stupid. Boatloads of talent, the opportunity to make millions, and you do something this stupid??? Sure, this may not affect him much, but I mean... come on. at least try and help yourself out here.

With all I have read about this guy he just seems like trouble. He has superb talent but if he ends up being a TO or Chad Johnson he won't be worth. I'm hoping the Fins, if they do take a WR, take a more stable good character guy.

    :pity:

1- He still has the "boatload of talent" that he always had.

2- He still has the opportunity, no the guarantee, that he will make millions.

3- Do you consider drinking alcohol just as stupid? I hope so, with that kind of disdain & indignity.

4- Getting caught didn't help him. That is for certain.

Let's remember that if our government treated cannabis fairly in regards to it's risk/benefits then this would be a non-issue. As it's not an addictive substance, is almost completely non-toxic, and doesn't inebriate you so that you cannot perform basic functions. It's also not a performance enhancer that the league would otherwise be concerned about.

Our laws are the problem, not the hundreds of millions of Americans who smoke a harmless plant which grows all over the planet.

    1. Let's put Skeet on suicide watch.
    2. I don't care if he smoked weed. I care that he's in the process of a multi-million dollar interview & he knows he'll be peeing in a cup, and he STILL can't put down the drug. He's either stupid or addicted...and we all know marijuana isn't addictive.

THC can remain in your system up to 30 days. So you would have to blame him for bad timing if anything. He probably could have gotten away with a Whizinator if he didn't plan on quitting at all, so logically it seems as if he just didnt make sure that he was 100% clean before the test.

I hope your final statement wasn't sarcastic. Because it's not a physically addictive substance. Your brain also has receptor cells designed specifically to catch THC, whether or not you utilize these brain cells is your own prerogative. :p

Just another example of the disdain todays athletes have for rules/laws. Talent, skill, speed, strength, etc should NOT be an excuse for thinking you are immune from the consequences of everyone else in our society. Why do it? It's a sad situation.

Im not denying he still has talent, but the point is how if he can't quit doing something like this prior to the biggest job interview(lets face it, that sums up the combine) of his life, then he's probably going to have problems down the road. Thats all im saying. It's just not a smart choice for the kid to be making prior to the NFL draft.

Im not getting into a debate with you on the pro's/con's of smoking pot, I couldn't care less about that. All I'm saying is, its not looked kindly upon by the NFL, look what it did for our boy Ricky Williams? Simply saying its a stupid choice for him to be making.

hey now, don't be mad that we actually have real beer up here  I love me some beer

Whether you like or don't like the ganja, there's no arguing how stupid this is. I love beer, but you can bet your *** if the combine was coming up, and I was going to be putting on a show for potential employers, I would be drying out and not letting it have any affect on my chances at producing.

When somebody can't put a simple pleasure on hold during one of the most important times of their career, that is somebody we don't need in Miami. No chance the trifecta goes anywhere near this guy, IMO.

The timing IS the stupidity. Look, if the NFL made cinnamon a banned substance, all potential draftees should stay the heck away from cinnamon! It doesn't matter if their disdain for cinnamon is right or wrong. The rules are the rules and that is that.

My final statement was not sarcastic. I don't have "420" in my name, but I like to take part. My boss doesn't test me for any substances, but if he did, I'd stay away from whatever was on the banned list - even cinnamon.

The risks/benefits of cannabis have nothing to do with fact that this guy is an idiot....The fact of the matter is two things:

One, it's still against the law to consume the herb, whether or not you or I or he agrees with it. Therefore, anyone getting ready to go into the NFL draft (if they are fortunate enough to have that much talent), should know that consuming the product will have a seriously adverse effect on his draftablity....Sure, he'll still make millions, but he could have made many millions more had he had some common sense to go with that talent. The fact that he tested positive speaks volumes about this guys character, when added to the other red flags that he has given off during his Florida days and before...

Two, as several other posters have said, he knew he was going to be tested, right down to the day that the test would be completed. If he had any guidance or any common sense he'd have known that it takes a period of time to get it out of the blood stream and he should have restrained for that period of time...shame on him and shame on his guidance group, whether that be his parent(s), other family or agent or college coaches.

Drinking alcohol is just as stupid if you let it interfere with your ability to earn a living. Whether that be the truck driver who drives drunk or the pro athlete who gets into a fight at a bar after drinking or shooting a hole in his leg or whatever. Yes, it's stupid and I have the same disdain and indignity for those who choose to take this path.

Getting caught...that's still not the point here...the point is he let it happen...not what he did...

Exactly. The arguement has nothing to do with cannabis, everything to do with a) against the law b) you can't play in the nfl if you get caught. When a front office spends millions on a draft choice, that person better dang well be on the field. To miss playing time due to something as insignificant as smoking weed is ridiculous.

Whether it's theoretically addictive or not, it does seem to have some sort of ability to impair NFL player's judgment. When they can't lay off the substance to protect their careers, by extension, their livelihood and families, that defines a destructive substance to me.

At minimum, displays lack of self control and discipline.

You can only wonder what he'll be like with millions of dollars in his pocket. To test positive knowing 100% for certain you'd be tested at such a key time in your life contract wise, is just crazy.

What are the options? He was either too stupid, completely addicted, or too arrogant. None is a good sign and he just put some ammo into the thoughts out there that he has some issues.

I really don't see what the big deal is. He smoked alittle weed before he starts his NFL career. Alot of people smoke it and thats fine. If he wants to lose money thats ok, But he is going to the NFL now and I would rather him smoke it now than when he gets to the NFL. This guy will still be a 1st rd pick in the NFL and last year Aquib Talib said he smoked dope and I would take him on the phins.

The big deal is doing it during a period when he is being evaluated for the NFL is worse than if he did it during his NFL career. If he's willing to sacrifice his chance at the NFL to smoke pot, what do you think he'll do once he has a contract and fistfulls of cash at his disposal? It will be an absolute nightmare. If you remove your biases and take an objective look at what this type of behavior indicates about his personality and future behaviors you'll see why most of us don't want this guy to be a Dolphin.

If he smokes pot he is letting no one but his agent down rather than if he does it when he gets to the NFL he lets his team down so yeah I think I would much rather him to do it now rather than when he is in the NFL. He is not sacrificing his chance in the NFL. You think he won't be drafted now? haha He will probably be drafted in the 1st or early 2nd at worse, I would have taken Aquib Talib last year at 25 so there is no bias here. Just because I am a Gator fan does not mean I can't have an opinion. I don't care if every person in this site does not want him on the team. I think he would be an upgrade at WR and I know he would help this team alot!!!!

Yeah Pot is not addicting and you can stop when ever you want. Ummm we have Ricky Williams on our team and if he can stop than I think Percy can stop.

I did not put that in my Avy. I don't know how it got there

The point is not who he is or isn't letting down. The point is if he doesn't care enough to not give up a banned substance when there's millions of dollars on the line what chance does he have of giving it up once he receives an NFL contract and a boatload of money? In my estimation, none.

But you're right, he will be drafted. Just not by us. Parcells won't touch a guy with these kinds of character / drug issues. IMHO.

Because he may have smoked pot (second hand smoke) the guy is now a cancer? Your basicly saying that if he gets money that he will now just be a fulltime druggy? I don't buy that for a minute. The guy hurt no one but himself and if he wnated to have fun before the draft than thats up to him. I don't condone that but I am not going to make him out to be some sort of druggy an he will only get worse if he gets money. Look at Ricky if he can quit than anyone can quit.

Yeah I know he will be draft! You don't know the Phins may take a chance on such a gamebreaking WR. I doubt it but it could happen

Not just because he smoked pot. I've been reading a lot about this guy. Some of it posted by Phins.com's very own knowledgeable members in the club level. I've read enough about Harvin to realize he has other character issues besides pot.

But we'll see what the Dolphins FO think about him. Who knows, maybe they will take a chance, but I just don't see Parcells being enamored with a guy like this if what I'm reading is even remotely true.

We share views on partaking of the weed in general, but geez from a football perspective he knows the rules and knows he is going to be tested and STILL cannot quit for bit.....and his history is one of other questionable issues.....stay away from this guy....very far away........

Even if you can get by the weed part the guy has other legitimate questions on and off the field. At some point there are too many questions to take him with your only R1 pick...teams with multiple R1 picks might be more willing to take a chance on his open field and ball skills.

Many people here are kidding themselves if they think there aren't a LARGE number of NFL players who smoke weed. Was he careless in getting caught? Yes. Does it automatically mean he's a "bad character guy"? No.

So NFLDraftBible reports he tested pos citing an unnamed source and it is questioned, rightfully so IMO. Don't report it as fact if you can't back it up.
Now, PFT, another site sometimes considered to be the National Enquirer of NFL related sites, reports it as confirmed to be true, citing no source at all. They just say so. That means it must be true?

Depends what you consider character really. If you consider the ability to quit smoking with enough time to not get caught and not ruin something that can effect your future, then I think you can say he is a bad character guy. If you also consider the other stuff he seems to have done, the fact that he is not helping himself by smoking pot, then I also think you can consider him at the very least an idiot. That also goes into character IMO.

I think he will cause you obviously won't be in the NFL long if you continue to smoke weed all the time. Time will tell but I don't think this will be a problem for him.

I read alot about this guy too. I have been doing it for 4 years!!!!! I followed him when he was a at Virgina Beach (VA) Landstown High School. I know probably more about Percy than just about anyone on this board. He at problems in High School with bad sportsmanship (Not all on him but both teams.). I questioned him when he became a Gator and I wondered if he would be a problem. He was never a problem at Florida. No signs of pot or anything else. I have never heard anything bad about Harvin and I have alot of sources with the program. I am fortunate to get alot of inside info. Percy is not the most open guy but has never ever been a problem guy. Urban Meyer has come out and said that. He always was willing to put his body on the line (Even while injured.) He put he team first and was a playmaker on every year at Florida. He played out of position knowing it would hurt him but he did it cause it would help the team. Percy is a team guy and I think who ever drafts him will be very happy with him.

The only person I know on this site coming close to what I know on this subject would be M 2 cents and Motion. My 2 cents has got some info and it differs with mine alittle but the truth be told we won't know anything until 3 or 4 yrs after the draft.

I have no doubts being a fan and your other inside info you know an awful lot about this guy. Definitely more than I do, I wouldn't ever argue that. But don't take it personally if I take more stock in what professional NFL scouts are saying (or at least rumoured to be saying). They are looking at it objectively while us fans, I think we can all admit, aren't always so objective.
