all it says on the official site is that it was traded to KC. We didn't get the last pick in the draft this year, which KC owns. So what did we get?
you cant trade compensatory picks anyways, so we couldnt of gotten their last pick. i dont think the info is out yet, i hope personally its a 6th next year.
we agreed to own them for the next 5 yrs rather than take mr.irrelevent.both parties got a good deal imo.
Thanks. I guess that is ok. Would have rather gotten the talent this year, but next year could be deeper.
But think of it this way too... Instead of drafting a guy with our 7th this year and being committed to him. We traded the pick away. Which is important because it means the FO obviously didnt see anyone there worth using a draft pick for. At least not somebody they coudlnt already get as a UDFA anyways. This way we send the pick off to KC for their 7th next year, and next year were now guaranteed two picks in the 7th, so you have two more shots to get guys you may want, before heading into the UDFA signings. Not really a bad deal I guess. Plus, next year should be a deeper class anyways.
7th round picks have an extremely low success rate anyway. This means two things: 1) We don't see a diamond in the rough player there, or we believe that player will be an UDFA anyway. 2) We may have moved up a few spots, since I assume we'll have a better record than KC. (I think that was our 7th?)
They must think the UDFA pool of talent must really suck this year because they couldn't even be bothered drafting one. There probably isn't one even worth fighting another team for. Then again, if there is an UDFA they really like sign somewhere else then it's a bad mistake.
im a lil surprised we took a 7th rather for our 7th...usually the rule of thumb is if you take next years pick, it needs to be a round up. just a few picks before ours Philly traded their 7th rounder for the Colts 6th rounder next year...
It's always that way. This is the first time I ever heard of trading a pick this year for one in the same round next year.
I think that was the thought process -- not a strong, late-round draft this year; can't help but think this will pay off next year.
