Anyone have any experience with this? I just played my xbox last night... Turn it on ans it says "open tray." I do, and then it reads, and back to "open tray." I tried two different games and neither worked. WTF is going on? ETA: The games are in perfect condition. One is Madden 09 and the other is Call of Duty: World at War. I barely played COD too... So it can't be a disc issue.
That sucks. I had similar problems with my old PS2. I wish I had an answer but it just kind of stopped doing it suddenly. I would have to make a dozen attempts or so before it would read a disc at its worst. Then one day it just started loaded on the first try almost every time. The problems popped up around month eight or nine in Baghdad. I suspected that dust had something to with it, being that that is an incredibly dusty part of the world. Has a lot of dust settled around your Xbox?
Yeah... I hadn't played it in a bit and it was a little dusty.. I cleaned it up before I started playing again though... If that is the problem, is there a good way of preventing it?
Aside from dusting regularly I don't really know. I haven't had any problems like that with my newer consoles so I guess it helps. I didn't have anymore problems with the PS2 either after returning home.
I tried it again, it finally worked... Restarted the 360 numerous times and it worked every time... I have a warranty till 8/10/09, so I have time to see if the problem persists. If it is dust, then won't it build up in the inside though? Unless I take it apart (not going to happen with RRoD) it's impossible to clean, right?
I use one of those Dust-Off air in a can's. I can see (or hear rather since the fan isn't blowing as much) a noticeable difference.
I can tell you for a fact that if you take you take a pc into a repair shop to have it cleaned they pull the cover off of it and use caned compressed air to blow it out. You have to be careful though to not let the fans spin as the rush of air can make them turn very fast which may not be good for them... I have used a vacuum cleaner as well but have been told thats a bad idea because static can build up in the vacuum and then shock the PC/Console. It should be fine though if you are just vacuuming from the outside.
You also don't want to spray the air directly into the lens of the laser. If you get that thing of track just the slightest bit, you'll never get it working again.
