You're 100% right Dupree. JT has always been very good, if not great, against the run. Teams have never successfully gameplanned by running "at" JT like they sometimes do against speed rushers like Dwight Freeney and Julius Peppers.

Who knows how JT will be in 2009, but lets not engage in revisionist history.

Man, I feel pretty smart right about now. I posted in another thread back on May 1st that I thought he'd back back wearing aqua and orange again. How 'bout that?! http://forums.thephins.com/showthread.php?t=31405

Seriously though, I think it's a smart move on the part of the FO. Makes not drafting an OLB make a lot more sense now. I think he'll make a significant contribution, even if just in a rotational or platoon situation. I think he can still play at a very high level.

Oh, and yeah...sorry Mr. Kraft, but Jason won't be wearing you're uni this season (or, ever)! LMAO! I really think Jason was just jacking with him. Either that, or it was an elaborate ruse orchestrated straight from the top. And, it couldn't have worked out any better for us.

    Love it!!!

I like that we traded JT to the Skins for a second rounder, used that second rounder on Pat White and then re-signed JT to a much cheaper contract after the Skins cut him. It's like we loaned out JT for a year and got Pat White for free. I'm friggin psyched.

Like I said in the other thread that I would reserve judgement until Jason did whatever he'd do...

Well, again Zach's loyalty to this team has indeed rubbed off on Jason.

According to Jasons agent: "Jason told me, `Tell the Dolphins whatever fits their budget, I'm ready to play,'" Wichard said. "There were no negotiations. It was always going to be Miami."

So much for Thomas or Taylor's chances, real chances, for signing with teams that hate/have hated the Phins and their fans for years.

Thomas and Taylor are NOT Punk Welkers.

Why is so impossible to believe that JT is loyal on his own? Why would Zach have to rub off on him?
IMO, he did what he needed to do and wanted to do without needing anyones input.

Just a question, not bashing or insinuating anything else.

Am I the only one not entirely enthused by this?

OK JT is a great player and will be an upgrade from a physical skills set perspective.

    My concerns are:
    1) He has a long history of undermining coaching staff.
    2) What happens if we're not contender this year? I mean we are facing a very tough schedule and we still have holes to plug.
    3) He doesn't seem to have been successful as a leader in inspiring other players around him to perform better.
    4) Is his focus still football? When he left last time it was clear that football was no longer his priority in life (which could have been affected by successive rotten fish regimes)
    5) What does this mean for Matt Roth and Cameron Wake? Are we stunting the development of long term solutions for a one year good-bye party?

If this works out it could well be the best off-season move the 'phins have made. I just have enough reservations not to be jumping for joy right now.

Thats a real possibility but like I said in the other thread about Zach, I dont know them personally so I will go with what their actions have shown.

Unlike Zach, who was (made:angry:) a FA, Jason was going to be retained last season, huge contract and all.

But instead of devoting all his strength, all his love, everything he's got to getting this team out of 1-15, he wanted ....to dance.

    Dance and play actor.

That's his right to choose a different career. But it showed that his desire to help this team out of a 1-15 jam was not exactly 100%. He let it be known he was open to trades and all that which further gave me reason to doubt his loyalty. Hence, the rift between him and management which is no secret.

I am sure that his experience in Washington made him feel 'weird' and out of place last season, and the injuries certainly didn't help.

Couple those things with a brother-in-law that bleeds Dolphins colors, who I am sure has been talking with him and telling him he wishes he'd have the same chance to come back, and suddenly the dancing and the acting takes a back seat and the hard work begins.

I think this is a great move by the fo.you cannot have enough talent at the LB position, and it can only make this team better. It is sure great to see JT back in a phins uni.

The more i think about it the more it makes me wonder if parcells/JT had planned this all along. I can almost see the conversation going like this:

BP: okay JT, your value is high still, so lets go to the press, say you dont want to be here anymore, give us a good reason to trade you, then when you get there, go play for a year, refuse to go to camp, and get them to release you so we can bring you back, and get even better with the 2nd round draft pick you'll get us.

JT: Anything for the phins Bill!

 in all honesty though, it seems too sweet of a deal that just went our way. We trade the guy, and his huge contract, we get a 2nd round draft pick. Then we win the division without him, then he gets released, we sign him back at 1/8th of the cost, and improve our already improved defense from last year.

If youre a phins fan, you've got to love that! Things finally going our way for once.

Who else could have pulled off this move?

These are heady times Brothers and Sisters, this is sort of the Anti Wanny Times, instead of seeing a AJ Feeley going back to philly, we are the ones doing the work.

Add in Ricky Williams Redemption and one can only hope the same happens with Jason Taylor...I love redeeming players off the NFL scrap heap.

Perhaps now Pete King will revise his "power rankings' concerning our Front Office?

My hope is......with this meager contract, with meager incentives, with the way JT gave up all that money in Washington, publicly and privately begged to come back, made amends with the powers that be, spurned a more lucrative offer with the outstanding Patriots, waited and waited for Miami to make a move......will be enough for the fans who soured on Jason Taylor last year to come back and support him again.

Boys and girls, Jason Taylor, the team's all time sack leader, came back here for whatever the Dolphins would offer, which was damn near the veteran minimum. He waited 10 weeks for the Dolphins to just make an offer. That's how badly he wanted to play here. This is where he wants to finish his career. Oh, and we've still got a 6th rounder coming from Washington next year. :)

Matt Roth is pretty much a 2-down player for us. A 2-down player who in his first year as a (280 pound) linebacker who got 5 sacks for us from the strong side despite being limited all season with a groin injury. He got hurt in 2007 and played thru it the entire season. Roth had surgery recently and should be even better. Especially now that he's got an entire offseason to prepare as a linebacker. Remember, he didn't start standing up until we got into training camp last year. And that was after we'd tried Vonnie Holliday first.

You can never have too many pass rushers. Injuries occur. Things happen. Cameron Wake may or may not turn out to be a good player. But he's a young guy on a small contract. If you can add a veteran like JT for THAT contract, you do it.

I have zero concerns about JT's desire or dedication. Stars who've lost the fire play don't sign THAT contract. They sign the JT's PREVIOUS contract. They don't instruct their agent to take whatever one particular team offers. They go to the highest bidder.

    We just got better today.

I am one of those. The contract says everything. He left 7.4 million on the table at washington and then told his agent, whatever is in the budget. He made me feel dirty for doubting him.

    Dolphins Sign Jason Taylor

    May 13, 2009

The Miami Dolphins have signed outside linebacker Jason Taylor.

A veteran of 12 NFL seasons, Taylor has played in 185 games, including 177 starts. A six time Pro Bowler and former Defensive Player of Year in 2006, Taylor is the owner of numerous Dolphins career marks, including consecutive games played (130), consecutive games started (130), sacks (117), opponents' fumble recoveries (26), fumble returns for touchdowns (5), defensive touchdowns (8) and interceptions by a defensive lineman (7). He has notched six double-digit sack seasons, all of which have come over the last nine years. His career sack total of 120.5 sacks ranks 14th on the NFL’s all-time list.

The pompous Patsies fans are shocked that he would not sign with them and be gauranteed winning a Superbowl in New England. :tongue2:

What's hilarious is reading comments from Patriot fans, like this brilliant gem from Hawg73, Patriot's Planet Moderator:

"I mean.....what is really to discuss? The guy is the best Dolphin since Marino and can still play (I think). It makes me believe they don't really have a consensus on him or they would have just said "Let's sign Taylor", nodded their heads and moved on to other business like what they are going to do when Pennington gets hurt again.

Jason Taylor is going to come to the Pats. The Dolphin talk from his camp is just polite nostalgic talk for the fins fans so that his kids don't get harassed at school.

Belichick went into the season with Reche Caldwell as a number one WR a few years back when we were all screaming for a real one and the results were that we couldn't get past Indy (remember bug eyes dropping the ball?) and the next year we got loaded out there. Live and learn.

BB is a defensive guy and genius that he is, he realizes that having 20 defensive backs won't matter if we can't bring pressure and we would not be sitting at this juncture without another guy with rush credentials if we didn't have a wink, wink arrangement in place with Taylor right as we all sit here gnashing our teeth.

The only question is what number he will wear for the New England Patriots in 2009. Relax, it's in the bag
    ."
