I was wondering if anyone knows this tune from Dio when he was with "Rainbow". He also has played it with several of his other bands. Obviously, this question is for anyone who likes that type of music. I've heard it many times, but I was just listening to it and thinking how that tune is freakin' awesome, but the thing is; you have to listen to a version of it when they play it fast. Most times they play it slow and it's totally lame, but you can find certain live tracks when they play it fast. It totally kicks a--! I was just wondering if anyone has heard the fast version. ...Then I started listening to the live version of "The Trooper".
Yup-I have it on a couple Dio releases. It is definitely a different song when speeded up-but I definitely prefer the original, slower version. I love Ritchie Blackmore's guitar work on that song.
So true!! While I do enjoy man on the silver mountain, i really love Heaven and Hell. Another GREAT song!
Really? I guess it's how we first hear it and the original impression that it leaves. I heard the fast version first and listened to only that version for years. I only recently heard the original, slower version. For me, the fast version really kicks a-- and gets me pumped. Either way, it is a great tune and I totally agree about Blackmore. I've always liked him and he does some really nice melodic stuff on that tune.
I would definitely agree with that. I first heard Rainbow in the 70's, so by the time Ronnie had moved on to Sabbath and then his own band, I had heard Man on the Silver Mountain at least 1000 times. I do enjoy the faster version that he did with Dio, but like you said, the song was already ingrained by that time.

Ha! Ha! Mr. FFIC, you freakin' rock! Thanks so much! I always forget to check Youtube for stuff, but when I do I always find cool stuff like that. That's freakin' awesome!I just sent it to a friend of mine. It's so funny because those are exactly the two versions that got me into that tune. How cool is it? It's such a cool song to sing as well as play.(I'm a guitarist) Try it. Again, thanks so much. Now, that's a great addition to a thread. I've already watched it like 10 times or something.
Moreso than "Gates of Babylon" or "Starstruck"? Shirley you jest! Gates of Babylon is my fave-I cannot get that song out of my head for hours anytime I listen to it!
I have to get you a live recording then. Livesay closes every set with out version of "Gates". We were considering putting it on the new album, but changed out minds.
yeah the first three albums of rainbow were amazing. i think the second album was my favorite though. rainbow rising!
I try not to listen to that one too much, as well as the "American Soldier" album. Queenryche - Di Garmo = crapola.
Yeah, I'm definitely glad someone else spent the money on those two albums and loaned them to me so I could add them to my iTunes. They are trying, but not succeeding in life post-Di Garmo.
Great song man, Dio kicks major ***. Ahh, 'The Trooper' off of 'Live After Death' is one of my favorites.
