Using a vehicle as a weapon is disgraceful on its own, using it against a police officer is just moronic. :pity:

Before people jump to a conclusion, "assualt on an officer" could mean failure to stop and driving to closely to the officer who was trying to flag him down.

Dumb move on his part, and the second offseason one of our guys got into trouble with a truck being involved.

Is "driving to close to an officer" code word for refusal to stop and then pinning an officer against another vehicle with a semi?

If you follow the links on thru you find that Randy "Dumb & Dumber" was slowly driving with 13 people in his 4 person truck and a woman on his lap. An officer came up and knocked on his side window to get him to stop. Dumber just kept on moving and while doing so pulled to the left and pinned the same officer between Dumber's truck and the car next to him. Oh, BTW, the tag isn't registered to that truck.

    This is clearly a case of I'm a big bad pro and I don't give a poop!!!:pity:

IMHO this officer showed great restraint in not just shooting said dummy!

Sorry CR you beat me to it!!

Is pinning a code word for "I was too fat to get out of the way of a slow moving object"?

Edit: NM, he was probably too busy counting the "13" people that he immediately noticed. lol

Well, I'm glad no one was seriously injured and the process will just have to wind it's way out, Starks acted like a horse's backside though.

I'm tellin' ya though, Louis Ellis will make a positive impact for us this season.

Ellis is very raw, and lacks enough technique to make a consistent impact at this stage, imo.

That said, the best way to develop is via playing-time, so I don't mind him learnih on the job.

Starks is our best lineman. He isn't going anywhere. Unfortunately it sounds like he's living the 'life' and probably still a bit immature.

IIRC you have to have a CDL license to drive one of those. It's a semi truck.

Noun 1. pinning - a mutual promise of a couple not to date anyone else; on college campuses it was once signaled by the giving of a fraternity pin
promise - a verbal commitment by one person to another agreeing to do (or not to do) something in the future

    :wink2:

I doubt they would get rid of him over this, but it isn't going to win him any fans in the FO. Sad to say, I don't think that he will face any disciplinary action other than a fine, even though he was driving recklessly and could have killed someone. If this story is correct and he pinned the officer against another vehicle, just a little bit further and he could have crushed the guy. IMO that deserves more than just a slap on the wrist from the NFL.

This could make the loss of Holliday a lot harder to swallow. But I'm reserving judgment until he's had his day in court.

I agree he could have really hurt the guy, which makes believe since it was a police officer (Now Gish is right Court has to play out first). I think a one game suspension fits this. Again he could have hurt a officer doing his job.

Edit: Wait when does the nfl hand out one game anything he gets two off

    Yeah, at least one game.

Maybe I'm baised, as someone who was in an accident caused by a reckless driver and as someone who had a sister get into an accident a few months ago because of a reckless driver, I have little sympathy for jackasses who are careless behind the wheel. Driving a vehicle is a huge responsibility and when I see someone treating it like as joke it irks the hell out of me.

if the story is true, and there are no fabrications or elaborations by police found, i'd be surprised if he wasn't released. what he did was really bad.

I have to agree as someone that never took his license serious until about 5 yrs ago, i learned alot of things the hard way. Its so simple to obey little laws. No excuse for childish behavior at this level. Driving is a privledge not a right

It might have been a Mercedes Freightliner, which is a Sprinter Van, and unless its customized with wall to wall options, appears to seat considerably more than 4 comfortably.

I can visualize him crusin that rig down the Blvd, numerous passengers in tow, reeling in varied states of inebriation, music pounding at a conspicuous tilt, and never see, nor hear the officer, who walked up and tapped on his rear side window.
I can imagine somebody in back hollaring, "theres a cop at the window", to which a startled Starks, turns to look and inadvertantly accelerates drifting left, effectively pinning the officer, and never having a moment thereafter, to reconsider his actions.

Very possible and things happen when young and dumb, but all face consequences for there actions. Hope he takes it like a man and becomes a better person.

EDIT; I do wonder how the heck ya fit 13 in a car for four but hey i did it and it wasn't a van.

    I think that's overstating it a bit.

Nose tackle is one of the most crucial positions in a 3-4. But look no further than Scott Pioli using his first two picks on DE's for context.

According to KC Joyner, Starks was one of the best run defenders in the league last year, not just the Dolphins. He played pretty well for Ferguson (and Soliai) against Jason Brown. Meanwhile he was the only lineman we had that could consistently generate pressure. Basically, Starks was the only 3-down lineman on the team. There's only one Richard Seymour, but Starks offers the same kind of skill set and versatility to us. He's probably ahead of Soliai as the backup to Ferguson right now (unfortunately).

To sum up, Starks does not play the same position as Ferguson, but he is the better player right now. Best lineman on the team. He's entering his 6th season, yet is only 25 and just starting to enter his prime. Losing him would not be good for us.

Ferguson is still a good player. But I think your point speaks more to our (lack of) depth at the position. Example: if we hadn't acquired Ferguson, would starter/underachiever Paul Soliai be 10x more valuable than Starks?

Kevin Carter's still a free agent. I think now might be a good time to give him a call. I don't advocate cutting Starks, but the possibility of a suspension means that we need to start considering Plan B.

yes, the truth is the truth. we run a 3-4, and only have 1 "good" nt. heck, there's only a handful of good nt's in the league anyway. so within the context of our situation, fergy is our best imo. and i think he deserves that title after the job he did for us last year too. he stayed healthy and was the linch-pin of our defense. but i think you're opinion of starks could just as easily be considered correct by some also.

but i disagree about the first ravens game. we got gutted by their rush offense, and it was really the only time we were dominated via the ground all season. and i dont think it was a coincidence that both our true NTs were out that game. what fergy brings to our d-line practically spells life and death for our defense. imo.

starks is good, but if the report is true, and he came within a foot or so of becoming a cop-killer, i dont know. things like Crowder's abandoned truck, i think can be swept under the rug. even juggernaut beating up a dude(depending on the context of the fight) can be swept under the rug. but this is potentially a really bad crime.

I agree with you Kenny, this arrogant prick needs to be made an example of for the other dudes that want to act like numbskulls we may have on the team. I guess he isn't going anywhere but hopefully they make him pay somehow. I am guessing the assault on the police officer, if taken to court can get him some time in the slammer.

might be more to this story
the Miami Police are notorious for the inappropriate
not going to venture a comment on this one other than: let's wait & see

assaulting anyone with a truck is as wrong as it is improbable
what I want to know is what really happened
just might be more to this story than is reading on the police report
