Hey Met fan coming in to the thread for the weekend. I feel good about tonight, with Johan pitching and like some of the mets odds against dice-k. Not too sure about the other games but man does our lineup look weak matched up against yours. GL this weekend, hope we sweep ya!!!!:tongue2::tongue2:

Yeah I didn't like the Sox chances tonight vs. Johan even with that Met line up. I figured Dice K would walk a few people and they would end up scoring and the Sox would lose by a few runs.

With that being said the Sox should absolutely win the next two games especially without Reyes, Delgado and Church in there. But they play the games on the field.

What a terrible game tonight. Beckett pitched a great game and Papelbon finally gets hit with a blown save. I really don't understand how he could walk Sheffield to lead off the inning, just go right after him and challenge him. This has been a frustrating weekend so far. The Mets line up right now looks like a Triple A team and yet the Sox still can't win.

Hopefully the Sox at least save face and win tomorrow.

As a Met fan I know how crazy tonights finish was. No way in hell I saw Santos hit a 2 out 2run hr against Papelbon. But a very good defensive game from the Mets. Especially that 9th inning.

Yeah that's why it's frustrating. If it was Wright or Beltran you tip your cap to them but Santos? That's tough to take. But hey tip your hats to the Mets they're playing well this weekend.

i doubt any hitting coach would be able to help him if he hasnt already changed.

We don't want you on the bandwagon!

Agreed. Unfortunately the Braves should have left in in Triple A last year instead of having him play just 3 games and call him back up. Maybe it could have straightened him out with his pitch selection.

I'm pretty excited for a Matsuzaka vs. Franceour match up later this season. I wonder if Franceour will K in 3 pitches or Matsuzaka will walk him in 4. Should be exciting!

Francoeur went to seek help in the off season from Rangers hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo, supposedly the best in the biz, and Frenchy actually had a really good spring and a good April, but he's reverted back to bad habits. Maybe if he could get a coach who can keep him off those habits he could turn it around. Terry Pendleton may be the worst hitting coach in all of baseball.

Hey, never said I'd jump on the bandwagon, just said I'd be rooting for you guys behind the Braves. I already do to a degree with my hatred for the Yankees.

And you'd LOVE to have me on the bandwagon Finkle, stop playing games :wink2:

I'm not sure a hitting coach can teach someone pitch selection or the strike zone.

Ok you're right. You got me there. Bad job by me!!!! $$$$$$ Head shake no. :pity:

exactly. the old saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you cant make him drink.

a hitting coach can instill it in his head that he needs to have better pitch selection, but you cant keep him from hacking at everything. Pendleton may be the worst hitting coach in the majors, but i gaurantee he has tried repeatally to get him to stop swinging at everything.

Haha not much to talk about right now. Ortiz is done. The rotation is starting to pitch to their potential. We need a SS and a bat at the DH position (Adam Dunn anyone?). Other than that everything is good.

I think it's obvious that the Sox and Yankees are the best teams in the AL and although I'd rather be in 1st being 1 game out on June 3rd is fine with me. I think the Sox and Yankees are going to run away with this thing now. No one in the Central or West scare me, or no team in the West or Central will probably win over 85 games. I think the Sox and Yankees are going to cruise into October right now.

I bet you could acquire Berkman with your arm prospects from Houston...heck, they would probably throw in Tejada as well....

EDIT: I added more to my previous post.

Anyway I'd much rather have Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez or Victor Martinez which I'd be shocked got traded. I think the Sox certainly have the prospects to get any of those guys but I don't think they get traded.

With that being said I think the Sox can get Dunn for cheap, maybe for Daniel Bard or Michael Bowden straight up, which I'd probably do.

I don't think Berkman will get traded and I don't think Tejada is the answer at SS for the Sox as he's pretty much a statue right now. Now if Houston takes Lugo from us, then maybe I'd do it, then have Miguel place a call to Arod's cousin for 'supplies' for him and Ortiz and hope they beat the testing system.

Buchholz and Anderson would be off limits in any trades unless it involves AGon or Hanley.

Well Berkman was discussed in the off-season, and he could move the same way now for the prospects you have...Tejada could be a "till seasons end" solution.

Just saying...switch hitting Berkman with DH/1B/3B rotation of Lowell and Youk would help everyone too....scary lineup if you got him up and down the order w/Miggi and what he has left as well.

Dunn, DH only....ehhhh...not impressed really. (Berkman can play OF too). Dunn cannot...cannot...cannot.

Dunn could probably play LF in Fenway once and awhile and is decent at 1st if you needed to put him there for a game or two a week.

I think Berkman is hurt right now, and again would be surprised if he's traded. Houston's owner loves the guy.

Screw you M. Young. Great effort from Lester tonight, he seems to really have turned it around in his last two starts, he looked like Koufax out there.

You already had him, and you can't have him back. I don't think anyone would ever go to a Marlins game again if we traded him.

After the 6th inning, I honestly thought Lester was going to do it. He was just so dominant and nasty. I wonder if that long wait hurt him a bit. Either way I'll take a complete game win from him. His ERA is still ugly over 5 but he's been really unlucky this year with balls in play. Maybe he just starts the season slowly. Anyway with him and Beckett back on track this team is going to continue to roll. Hopefully Dice-K is next to go on a run, or at least make it to the 6th inning.

Don't worry there's no way the Marlins trade Hanley this year. Maybe after the 2010 season though, depending on the economy etc.

It would have to be terrible for them to do that IMO. The whole reason they signed them was to go along with the ballpark in 2012. To try and show the fanbase that they won't be so cheap when they have their own stadium. No-one would trust them if they traded Hanley unless they got an amazing deal back.

Now that win was a pissah for the Yankees, who might have a slight bullpen problem. Yet I see no reason to change it. I really think that Joe Girardi got exposed as a bad manager who over thinks way too much. I also think besides the Yankee pitching, especially the pen, the Yankees OF defensive got exposed big time too. Swisher just had a brutual series in the field and on the base paths. But hey not our problem.

Anyway good 3 days for Boston. Beckett was awesome on Tuesday, Wakefield did just enough to win and Brad Penny pitched great tonight. Hopefully there were a lot of scouts watching him tonight.

By the way when Lowrie is ready to come off the DL, if I were Theo I'd write Lugo a check and just release him. Nick Green is a very nice player and want him on the team coming off the bench as our utility role.

And it's nice to see David Ortiz didn't die last July, he hit the ball well tonight, an opposite field HR and then a base hit that was tagged. If he can get started....

It really is unreal the Sox have won 8 straight vs. the Yankees. Anyway bring on Philly now, hopefully the Sox continue to stay hot.

That's too bad the umps stole the Phillies' walk off home run win by Dobbs tonight. The ball was clearly fair but the umps didn't want to review the replay as it clearly showed the ball in fair territory. Ohhhh well, at least the Mets found the funniest way to lose tonight so no ground lost as we are still up 4 games.

Got to tip your cap to the pen tonight, they did a great job.

    Just saw this:

    http://http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4255169

Girardi wants MLB to suspend Penny for hitting Arod because he said he did it on purpose. Sure Joe right after Joba gets suspended for hitting Bay. Give me a break.

Also in the article there's a story about John Henry using twitter to say something to Mark Teixeira. Can we please get Henry to shut up. His job is to sign the checks not twitter or make comments. He's starting to get embarassing now, please just shut up. And I like the guy but I just wish he would just smile for the camera, wave to the fans and sign the checks.

Good post, would Girardi had same the same thing if the Yanks just swept the Sox, most likely not..

I thought the biggest thing from the Yanks game last night was watching Girardi bring in Mo with 2 outs in the 9th with nobody on and then giving up the run anyway. Moves like this will doom them as the season rolls along.

Agreed. I think Girardi is using this to take away some of the distraction of being swept. It's really kind of petty if you think about it. I mean how many times did Pedro drill Yankee hitters when Torre was the manager and nothing was ever said or done about it? The teams settle this stuff on the field, no need to bring the umps or MLB offices in it. It also should be pointed out that the Yankee pitchers have hit the Sox 9 times this year and Sox pitchers have hit the Yankees only 3 times. I'm not complaining about it because I think it's part of the game (unless it's thrown at someone's head) but you notice Girardi doesn't ever bring that up. It's just silly.
