http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3174762 I could see it I guess, but it would be cutting the 360 out really soon if they did this. Even if they still supported the 360, most people would probably want the more powerful system (with or w/o motion). I'm also glad someone else finally pointed out that the wii is basically the gamecube with motion controls. Personally, I'd be a bit peeved if this was a whole new console and not just an addition (like the HDD on PS2, and Sega CD, etc). I mean, I like new tech and everything, but I don't feel like I've had my 360 for very long. Minimal step ups just aren't common in consoles like they are in handhelds.
I can see it happening but its meant for the 360 now I can them focusing the next console on Natals technology. They did say the 360 will have a 10 year lifespan. But Im thinking this rumor will be broken
they have to treat natal like a new console. it's the only way to justify what they're likely going to charge for it. Rumors right now say it's going to be around 200. That's what they charge for an arcade unit right now.
No during E3 they said the Xbox 360 would have a 10 year life span. http://kotaku.com/5278451/xbox-360-will-have-ten-year-life-span
If Natal is a new console, I'm done with MS... I just got my 360 last September... And I don't ****ing want natal anyway. Am I the only one who doesn't want motion controlled games? If I'm playing something, I want to sit on my comfy chair and use a normal remote control... I don't want the PS3 ****, a Wii-mote, Natal, whatever.
I think its a smart move only if they can price it low, like $300 or so. I mean if you are trying to reach the casual gamer then anything over $350 isnt going to move that well IMO, especially in this economy. I love the idea of a more powerful console but how much more power are we talking about? I'm not going to throw down several hundred bucks on a console that isnt significantly better then the current 360, not when I have no interest at all for Natal. I wonder if you could buy the new console for the increased power and then put the Natal portion on E Bay? I guess it depends how Natal is made and whether its a purely external camera that you can just plug and play or if there are elements of it actually built into this new 360. All that assuming that this rumor is true.....
I would rather it be false the more I think about it. Putting out a slightly upgraded 360 would take time and energy away from developing the next console that is truly much better. I would rather have them spend the time on that.
http://fgnonline.webs.com/ Basically the article says MS is pulling a Nintendo, releasing a console that is upgraded slightly, but nothing major (the jump from GC to Wii). If this is the direction MS is going in, it's obviously a smarter one (although I hate it). It's very clear that the $ isn't in the powerhouse consoles. Why release a system with the latest and greatest gadgetry when it will cost a **** load? Clearly the smart money isn't in a $500 console. As long as the system can produce good graphics and games, it will sell. The Ps3 pisses on the Xbox 360 in terms of raw power and ability, yet Sony isn't dominating. Hell, they're losing. MS has games... and if an inferior system (technologically) has games, it will sell. Especially if it's cheap. Nintendo has shown that last generation hardware can compete, and it's great for gamers wallets. I'll probably get a PS3 at some point (Maybe when GT5 or GOW3 is released, whichever is first) and that will be my main system. While Ps3 may have new motion controlled ****, you can believe it's an add on only. They have to have a 10year life span for the PS3 (and I don't really believe MS when they say that, the PS2 had 7-8 years as the main console). Even if Sony does go all out with their motion controller, hopefully they keep the traditional remote alive and supported too. They'll have an entire market to themselves it would seem. I know I would support them if they supported my gaming.
360 had a year head start. Great for their wallets because there isn't much worth buying comparatively. Aside from a few 1st party titles and virtual console. If the new MS console is 100% BC, I will likely get it. Why? Because I am a sucker for shiny new toys. PS: I am not believing anything that fgnonline.webs.com breaks.
Well as others have mentioned with the new 10 year life span announcement this doesn't make a lot of sense and it better not seeing as how I finally broke down and bought a 360. However the Sony 10 year lifespan is largely not a 10 year life span as they typically release a new Playstation every 6 years (PS1-1994, PS2-2000, PS3-2006) now MS can claim a 10 year lifespan but yet release a new system next year. The argument does make sense though because Natal will be so expensive that a new launch may be needed but wasn't the HDDVD add-on $150? So largely I think this will be an add-on because MS has found it's sweet spot right now as they are dominating the hardcore gaming market right now. If they decide to get cocky and release another system this quick they may get bitten like Sony did with the PS3. Hopefully they don't do this and I highly doubt it but with MS who knows. As far as Natal I am excited to see what it can do but I am with others I do not want to see all consoles be motion control only. I never wanted the Wii because of the motion controls and it isn't because it gets me off the couch but because it seems to make developers dumb down their games (has anyone seen EA's Wii sports lineup). I am fine with the option to play with motion controls like you have with Sony's Siaxis controls. Basically however when you look at Natal it is basically an advanced Eyetoy and other than the Milo demonstration it looked clunky to me. It excites me more than what Sony or Nintendo are doing with motion controls though.
If you think about it, natal being a next gen system makes sense... Why release natal and then in 1-2 years (2011-2012) release the xbox 3? MS obviously loves to nickle and dime at every turn, so I could be wrong... However in the current economy, I just don't see that as a smart business decision.
This makes me sad, MS is trying way too hard to compete with Nintendo (starting with those stupid mimmick miis). Or perhaps MS is running a little scared, maybe the PS3's time to shine is a little sooner than we think. So long as the controller option is still the main option for games then I'll be happy, otherwise it's back to sony for me. I can't imagine trying to play Mass Effect while flipping my hands about.
I don't think I'd want toplay any game just by using my hands only. I like how with the Wii you still hold an actual controller; using nothing would just seem awkward.
i find it hard to believe it's a new system when several times in the videos i've seen they've said **** like "oh look it works with regular 360 its just plug and play" etc. we'll see
I think people are misreading what Microsoft is stating. They're making a big of the damn thing, but they're not canceling the 360. I dont want motion controls either.
As long as it has these things I am in: 1. PLAYS ALL MY 360 GAMES (not emulated either, but plays them without downloads or problems) 2. More Reliable (at least as reliable as a PS3) 3. Isn't too expensive
well, if I remember, the original XBox only lasted a few years before the 360 came out, so I could definitely see them trying to push out a new console. I think Natal is the biggest pile of crap ever, though, so if they do I'll likely switch to PS3. There is no way I want to play any shooter or sports game without a controller.
