Where is Randy Mueller during this slide? Correct me if I am wrong but isnt he in charge of all personnel decisions? Has he spoke about the state of affairs or is just collecting a paycheck and going home.
There's not much personnel movement to do in-season. Mueller pulled off a good trade at the deadline. That's about all he can do.
The public doesn't see the GM as often as the Coach. Mueller has less name recognition to the common person.
Randy's fingerprints: a) Getting rid of overpaid players (e.g. Mare, McMichael) and replacing them with much cheaper alternatives. These moves have put us in a position where we'll have about $30mil in cap space next year. This is definitely a case of taking a step backwards so you can take two steps forward. b) Trading away Chris Chambers for a stupendously good pick when he realised that we weren't going to make the post season. Another case of taking a step backwards in order to take two steps forwards. c) Acquiring players that our coaches wanted. Some good (Satele), some bad (Porter), but it is nice to see the front office and head coach singing from the same hymnal. d) The offense has gone from completely sucky to mediocre, and as the majority of kep playmakers are under 30 there's good reason to think that the offence will continue to improve over the next few years. Where he has got it wrong is a miscalculation of talent in the defensive front 7. Although things such as Zach's injury, shifting Joey Porter to a new position and Dom Capers apparently changing defensive schemes haven't helped there. Other things I don't like include his management of the whole Trent Green/Duante Culpepper saga, but realistically that has very little to do with the team going 0-12. I also don't like the fact that he wasn't able to acquire an OC for CamCam, but accept that he was facing a mission impossible on that one.
