Don't know what game you were watching, but they booed Malkin winning the Conn Smythe, and they booed Crosby when he lifted the Cup.

Maybe you need to get the whole picture:

"In 2008, the Red Wings spent exactly 2 minutes and 10 seconds celebrating, from the final whistle, to the first handshake. This past Friday, the Penguins celebrated for 2 minutes and 15 seconds between the same two points. A difference of 5 seconds. However, it took Crosby a total of 3 minutes and 35 seconds to join the line, a full minute and twenty seconds after his teammates started shaking hands.

And that is why the Red Wings are so ticked, because Sidney Crosby was 1 minute and 20 seconds late. Not because they lost the Stanley Cup, on home ice mind you, but because Crosby was 80 seconds late to take part in a ritual that has no set start time."

-- M.P. Kelly [The Hockey Writers]

Aside from the fact that Lidstrom left the ice at 2 minutes and 40 seconds, while Crosby was still talking to coach Babcock. Go back and look at the tapes. So, when Kris Draper said that Lidstrom was "waiting and waiting" for Crosby, he meant that he shook as many Penguin's hands as he could and left the ice in less than three minutes.

So bottom line, Draper is a whiner.

Over the course of the 10+ minute celebration I watched and during pictures, the only boo's that I recalled hearing were for Bettman. Im sure there were a few drunk fans booing people, but the overall scene was much MUCH different from Pittsburgh the year before where it was half the stadium leaving and the other half constant booing through the entire cup presentation.

I got the whole picture.... the entire Pens team lined up for handshakes and Crosby didnt. His teammates started shaking hands without him. Its tradition for the captains to lead their teams and be the first to shake hands. Crosby knows this. He did it after every series and he did it in the cup last year. Certain players, like Lidstrom, are NHL stars and respected players of the game who have been around for decades and have won championships and know the traditions of the game. Lidstrom even said what Crosby did was wrong, but also said that he didnt think it was intentional.

I dont think Crosby did it intentionally, but he was wrong for it. Draper called him out for it. Everyone else also noticed it. So why is Draper a whiner for stating a simple fact?

Heres an article from the Pittsburgh paper:

Like I said and Lidstrom and Hossa and Crosby said, no one thinks it was intentional. But the entire Pittsburgh team lined up and shook Lidstrom's hand, and Crosby didnt. Why was it so easy for every single player on the Penguins to do it but not their captain?

Crosby even said in the last sentence that he didnt feel like waiting around in 2008, but Lidstrom lined up and he was the first person to shake his hand.

Look at Drapers exact words, thats not whining at all. The entire Pittsburgh team managed to line up without its captain and shake hands. That is ridiculous. People are making it out to seem like Draper said something horrible, which he didnt.

    http://www.freep.com/article/20090614/SPORTS05/90614009/1048/SPORTS

Theres the link. Theres even a picture of Lidstrom and Draper looking for Crosby and staying in line after shaking hands with the rest of the Pens.

Unless Talbot and some guy wearing khaki pants are Pittsburgh's new captains, Draper was just telling the truth.

You're wrong. I have it on tape. I can make you a copy if you like. :wink2:

Because he hasn't STFU about it since.

End of story. He made his point, now it's time to dry up and blow away. :D

Do you have game 6 of 2008 on tape? Compare that to game 7 of this year and tell me Detroit fans werent more respectful towards Pittsburgh than Pittsburgh was for Detroit.

Take a look at the stadium when Detroit had the cup in Pittsburgh. Take a look at the stadium when Pittsburgh had the cup in Detroit. Its very very different.

He hasnt? I recall only hearing one quote from him and thats it. Have I missed a lot? I havent been reading hockey news since the cup ended, but I recall only hearing one quote from Draper in one article and thats it.

My best friend is from Pittsburgh and a diehard hockey fan. We went to the Penguins vs. Flyers game a decade ago which was Lemieux's return game in Philadelphia. He even agrees with Draper that Crosby should have known the handshake tradition..... although he thinks Crosby is a ***** and wished Pittsburgh would trade him and build the franchise around Malkin. He even said the same thing about the Detroit fans when we watched game 7 together. He was suprised there wasnt crap thrown on the ice and more boos like there was in Pittsburgh last year.

You're ducking. You said you ONLY heard boos when Bettman's name was mentioned. I told you you're wrong. Has nothing to do with last year. You said the didn't boo the Pens. I have it on tape that they did.

If you want to go back to last year, check out what Pens fans did on Wing's message boards last year and compare it to what the Wings fans have been doing this week.

Please don't tell me that Wings fans are classy. They're just as screwed up as any other team's fans.

Any time someone has talked to him about it he's said the same thing. Maybe it's more of the media not letting it die, but he also has the choice to say hes done talking about it.

And I think we've hijacked this thread enough. :wink2:

Im not ducking. Maybe I didnt word my thoughts correctly or clearly explain what I was trying to say. It wasnt a 1-liner simple statement. I was trying to explain the difference in post-game ambience between Pittsburgh and Detroit. It wasnt my intention to state that there wasnt a single fan that ever booed anything.

I already said that Im sure there were some people booing, what I was trying to say is that it wasnt as bad in Detroit this year as it was in Pittsburgh last year... and that the people I watched the game with, who were ALL Pittsburgh fans, noticed it also. It was a very different situation.

And Im not trying to make it seem like all Wings fans are classy, all organizations have idiot fans. I just thought it was very noticeable that Detroit seemed to be more respectful towards the cup than Pittsburgh did last year. Thats the point I was trying to make.

Well if the media keeps asking him the same question, then its not his fault for giving his honest answer. You made it seem like he was going out of his way and not STFU about it.

    /thread hijack.

Incase you missed it earlier, Im not a Detroit fan and was happy that the Pens won the cup. :tongue2:

I like it when smaller market teams win the cup....... like Tampa or Anaheim or San Jose. I think the NHL needs to be picked back up, and especially needs to get back on major networks. Its pretty sad when the stanley cup finals are in versus and ESPN is showing womens college softball.
