As some of you know, in the Graphics Forum, we are holding a photoshop competition amongst some of the great artists that we have here at thephins.com. There are eight contestants competing in a bracket, and each week they receive a different challenge to complete. This week, they were supposed to make an advertisement for thephins.com. The only real limitation was size, the ads had to be under 650x650 pixels. Here are the entries from this week. Please vote for your favorites in EACH MATCH-UP. This means that you will be selecting FOUR options from the poll above. Hope that's clear to everyone. MATCH-UP 1 Entry A Entry B MATCH-UP 2 Entry A Entry B MATCH-UP 3 Entry A Entry B MATCH-UP 4 Entry A Entry B
hey now. you sayin' i'm s'posed to be losing? haha (for what its worth, I do realize what you're saying about 'correctly voting', so no need to enlighten me as to what you meant 2k5 haha) cmon people! buck the trends! go for the underdog!
I swear we can't agree on a damn thing (other than the Dolphins). 1B is the best one. Its like we are opposites on everything. Are you a thin black female who can sing, likes math, enjoys country music who loves to do yard work?
Voted all A's. All submissions are very good. But, IMO an ad has to be more than just a cool graphic. So, although I really liked the look of 1B and 3B, I went with the other one in each match up because the content was better. In other words, there was a message too. I liked 1A the best. Very clean and eye-catching at the same time. Looks very much like something you would see on the thephins.com. JMHO...
I know, I know, I just don't understand, how...well...you can be so...wrong all the time! I actually feel bad for you.
It may be the best of the bunch, (1A is #2) 1A has more of what I think the site would be looking for. It suits the site better I think.
It doesn't actually. 1B is attention getting. It says it all with barely saying anything. Which is exactly what you look for in advertising. You put that as a web ad on the side of a web site or in a print piece surrounded by other ads, it will literally jump off the page and grab your eye. It is the best looking, most attention getting and professional of the options. No offense to any of the other participants.
I wonder how it would look with a larger football player silhouette in the background and omit the small text on the bottom right (that text was really what kept me waffling between it and 1A).
1B (for me) is the only one that makes me want to check out thePHINS.com 3A comes in second.... imo of course, and no offense to those who did the others.
I won't argue that 1B is over all the best but unless your target audience is limited to Playboy or Maxim (good reads by the way) it is limited in it's application. My first thought is "buy condoms". Not bad if that is what you are trying to say. 1A with a couple remods would be more about what this site is about. That being my opinion of course...
Ads don't generally exist in a vacuum. That is to say, they generally appear were the target audience is. Even in broad audience media, like a newspaper, this would still be placed in the sports section. 1A is fine. But 1B generates excitement and controversy. Which is exactly what you want for two reasons, people need to remember the address and want to check it out, to see what the fuss is about. The problem with using an ad design in a contest, is that ads aren't looked at critically in the real world, so its hard to judge their effectiveness under these circumstances. I know, I know, I'm over analyzing, so what, shut up, you're stupid!!!!!!
