He was overlooked because of the system he came out of in college. I for one am glad it happened.

I'm glad we're the team he picked.

If you are undrafted you get to pick which team you sign to.

People tend completely discount players from spread systems, particularly QBs and WRs. This is a mistake for a couple of reasons. First, the players still have skills that may translate to a non-spread system that they displayed while playing in college. Sometimes it may take more time for these players to adjust to a different system but if they have the skills, they have the skills. (although not Bess)

Second, the spread is being used more and more in the NFL. A large part of NE's success came from their proficiency using the spread. To ignore the advantages it provides is folly.

Is this because of who is throwing the ball?Maybe because of what we have seen of him in the slot last year?Or when he started? His ability is outstanding, but is his height or true speed an issue?
Really,we haven't seen anything this young man can do "yet".Even if he winds up being the next Welker...I will take that.Until then,we don't know.

Bess is kickbutt, and give Teddy a chance. All he needs to do is stop hearing footsteps and stop avoiding contact. Once he learns how to take hits and get up and line up for the next play, and that sometimes you have to hit people instead of evading them if you want the first down, he'll be one of the top receivers in the league.

It is because of his lack of height and straight ahead speed. If a route is shorter or takes quickness and smarts, he is a great player. If it is a fade or fly route, it is just a waste of everyone's time. I do not remember him doing a long corner or post route.

He is a good player, it is just he isn't good as of yet in longer routes.

    Well away from here
In all fairness, that should been done years ago. Gin has been playing football long enough to have that part down. Personally, I don't think you can learn it, a great deal of it is having the innate ability to take a hit. If Ginn hasn't learned that by now, it is not good.

Not pickin on you, just saying that if that is true, Ginn will likely be somewhat limited as again I don't think you learn how to do that.

Am I missing something here or has Moss spent his career avoiding hits?

I hate to turn this into a thread about Ginn but he did take hits last season and he did get up and line right back up. I rewatched last season and paid real close attention to Ginn and he took plenty of big hits. How many big hits to you remember Camarillo or Bess taking? Unless it is a decapitating hit like the one Welker took we don't really remember one single tackle from a season.

Plus Ginn got absolutely destroyed by 350 pound Haloti Ngata and he got right back up so that is enough for me.

Back onto Bess, I think he's awesome and we did a good job signing him but I think that its funny since even the Dolphins passed on him in every round of the draft.

    Live from the Internet.
    Bess is a warrior.
He gets it. He knows it takes practice and repetition. I read that he always is one of the first people to show up, and one of the last people to leave during the off season workouts. His coach told stories that he would be at the facility working with tha jug machine at 5 FREAKING AM! What does that tell you? And the best part the man is humble, he knows he is nowhere near his potential, he stays humble and he just works on getting better. He doesn't have blazing speed, but speed alone isn't enought *cough*Ginn*cough* (I am a Ginn fan, no flaming plz) He cuts, he understands the prinicipal of route running, and he has HANDS! I think that what matters the most. Like Channing said in the interview couple of weeks ago (even thought he was talking about Turner, point remains the same) "He has hands, he catches everything. You would that at this level, all receiver would have reliable hands, but they don't" I am very, very excited about Bess.

Marvin Harrison flops worst than Vlade divac when a defender is near. I've seen him go down in the middle of the field when there were defenders closing in on him. It's nice, but not necessary, to take hits to be a good WR.

Anyone who returns kicks is automatically not afraid to take hits. And I've seen him go up against a big defender and get hit (and got hurt a bit). He is not afraid of taking a hit. Its bad decision making and he's learning.

Why is Ginn even mentioned in this thread? Can't we celebrate one of our players without trying to tear down another?

Nicely said, I TOTALLY agree. I do think Ginn has potential to be great, cant teach speed. He just has to make ALL of the catchable catches. He short armed a few last year and dropped some 1st downs. Catch those and we will not be talking about 'taking hits'.

Bess has been a huge pickup. Without his progress at the end of last year we may not be chatting about our improved defensive backfield. Without Bess and his potential we use one of those picks (Davis or Smith) on a WR.

I think this is Ginn's breakout season. By all accounts, he seems to have gotten bigger during the offseason and Sparano even mentioned he was the most improved since last season.
