The first round has only 31 picks -- New England forfeited its first round selection as punishment for Spygate. The University of Arkansas said no Dolphins official attended its pro day Tuesday -- more evidence that Darren McFadden is not on the Dolphins' radar. -- Miami Herald

I didn't think he would be on our radar with ronnie brown, ricky williams, and lorenzo booker all here. If brown and williams can stay healthy, and mixing booker in there once in a while it is my opinion that we may have one of the best RB cores in the league. Especially if our o-line can do its job! I'm surprised we didnt send somebody there though, at least to make it look like we may want the guy and try and force someone to trade up for him.

I am of the "best player available" philosophy when it comes to draft picks, especially high ones. I wouldn't mind drafting McFadden at all.

I am not too surprised. I dont think theres any point of attending it unless you want to send out another smokescreen.

I would have a problem with it except that Parcells and Co must all agree that he is not the BPA. IF they were even remotely interested or had doubts about the RB situation they would have at least sent someone. Lets hope they know what they are doing because we cannot afford to blow the 1st pick in the draft

What if you have a BPA, but only grades out slightly higher than another, and that other player is a huge need, while the BPA isn't. Hmmm?

We are not even going to try to fool anyone into thinking we are taking McFadden.

However, by not sending anyone to see McFadden and sending a lot to see Ryan it does increase the effectiveness of that smokescreen.

In another thread I think it was CK that pointed this out; don't think too significantly about this meaning no DMC, we never spoke to nor attended any pro day for Jason Allen and took him #16, we also never spoke to Ronnie Brown and took him at #2. I hope I remembered that right.

That being said I don't see this F.O. being that stupid, if we had interest in him, we'd have sent somebody.

Do I also need to point out that was a totally different regime to?

It sure is quiet though on ALL those people who wanted McFadden.

I don't think it's a ruse at all. Darren McFadden was NEVER on their draft board, at all, for the #1 pick. I severely doubt Felix Jones was ever on their board for #32, either. Jones is too small for them to really like him. They're investigating Chris Johnson at RB but that is because he might be the fastest man tested in Indy since like, god knows who...and if you've watched him play, he's got a low enough base and good enough tackle breaking ability that you think he MIGHT be able to play at that spot.

Where the ruse might come into play is with the other Arkansas players. If they sat out of this pro day because they've scratched every Arkansas player off their board, I will be upset. Arkansas has some damn good draft stories this year. Marcus Harrison is definitely a planet theory guy at 6'3" and 317 pounds with something like 5.06 speed. People have taken notice of him in the all star games as well, and they think he could be a NT at the next level. I guess I don't mind if they're turned off to Harrison because of his possession bust where cops found ecstasy and marijuana in his car...but CB Michael Grant is another guy with a good draft story. He is known as an accomplished press corner, with experience at safety. His biggest question was speed, and he went out there and blazed a 4.37 in Indy at the Combine. Speed? Not a problem for this guy! Raw? For sure. But, taking him off your board entirely? Not even watching him go through his pro day DB drills? I don't get that.

Peyton Hillis I don't mind ignoring. We have Mauia, we have Grigsby, we have Booker.

But Marcus Monk jumped back onto the big board in a BIG way. Listen, I know this guy dropped off the face of the earth in 2007 big time. But, he had an excuse. First day of pads practices in August of 2007, he takes a bad knee injury. Arkansas didn't do too good a job taking care of it, either. At first they think it's a cartilage tear, then they do MRIs and convince themselves it's just a bone bruise, then more examinations reveal they were right initially about the cartilage tear. They do surgery to repair. Two weeks later, he's back in the operating room because loose bodies broke off and slipped behind his meniscus. He takes care of that and misses like five games, and then they bring him back a little too early for Auburn, he only plays a few snaps, goes back to the bench and misses the next game. Finally he's somewhat healthy and they start him, but the guy didn't really play a whole game for the final six games to close out the year. He still caught 3 TDs in those 6 games. This is a guy that before the injury plagued senior season had caught like 24 TDs in 36 games in the SEC...with something close to a 16 yard per reception average...in an option offense. During those three years, they only threw the ball a total of 866 times. Heck, Matt Ryan threw the ball over 650 times this year alone. Monk caught 122 of the 466 pass completions...with again like a 16 yard average and 24 TDs.

Monk goes out at his pro day, says he finally feels completely healthy and proves it with a 4.41 and a 4.43 in the 40. At 6'4" and 222 pounds, you had BETTER take notice when an All-SEC player like him does something like that! Buzz factor on him is going strong after those runs. You might want to say he just ran on a fast track but Peyton Hillis did a 4.64 at the Combine and only a 4.58 at the Pro Day, not much of an improvement.

So hopefully this was just a ruse where it concerns guys like Michael Grant and especially Marcus Monk. I've been talking up James Hardy lately but...fact of the matter is...if Marcus Monk's knee checks out medically...I don't know how much James Hardy gives you that Marcus Monk can't. I consider Hardy to be worthy of a top 15 draft pick. If Monk isn't going to go until the bottom of round 2, let's say we could get him at #57 (which may be a pipe dream, in the end) while James Hardy is going to go #15 overall...the Draft Trade Value Chart says that James Hardy is worth more then three Marcus Monks at those prices. Do I agree with that? Not at all!

CK, what are you thoughts on Chris Johnson's future in this league? What position do you think he will end up playing and will he have an impact aside from special teams?

I don't know. You have to question him taking the pounding as a full time back. But, with as much speed as he's got, you can get him into a strength training program, try and put some beef on his legs (you know Parcells would have him doing squats and cleans like it was his job), and you wouldn't worry that he'd lose too much speed...because he's so damned fast already. He could immediately be a kick returner, I'm sure, even if he doesn't gain weight. At kick return is where you want that super duper fast speed demon. Punt returner is where you're looking more for a guy who thinks extremely quickly and sees the ball well. He'd have to really audition for that one.

    Thanks appreciate it.

I saw his interview on ESPN last month, he doesn't seem to brilliant. He mumbles a lot when he talks also lol, difficult to understand.

I wonder if BP would draft him? I think he could be a slot guy in this league, do you?

I think if I was Bill Parcells I would have sent a rep over there just in case some teams might like to move up with us.

I really am surprised at this. There were a lot of prospects there and you never know when you might need a little first hand knowledge of one of them.
