Anyone realized that 1) it's coming out next week, and 2) it's download only via PSN and XBL?

You can find 1600pt card for $15 and 4000 for $30ish probably. Which makes the game a much better deal.

DICE would be foolish not to release other map packs down the line depending on the success of 43.

They are only giving us a few of the classic favorites from the start, and Coral Sea(full air combat map from carriers) is going to be unlocked some time after the game is released.

This game is going to be very different from other BF titles....health regenerates, infinite ammunition, and all of the few classes have their own bazooka.

If not for the graphics & the size of the XBL gamer community, this game would be quite anti-climactic to me. I was a huge fan of BF1942, and in that old game we have access to far more gameplay than what will be offered in this DL. Cruisers, Destroyers, Submarines, massive bombers, controllable aircraft carriers, fixed AA/Artillery all over the place.....and BF1943 won't have any of these things.

Despite the fact Im sure I will have plenty of fun in this game, I am still yearning for a true successor to BF1942, that has all of the bells & whistles that made the original so unique - along with some new innovations.

Desert Combat is one of the best mods ever. I was in a clan for a while.

No PC Version, and as of the game's release there will only be Pacific Theatre maps. However, I think it seems prime for a map pack DLC based in Europe.

    Current Maps to be Released

    Iwo Jima
    Guadalcanal
    Wake Island
Coral Sea(To be released free after launch)

I would love to see a map pack that includes

    Battle of Britain
    Stalingrad
    D-Day Beach Heads(Omaha/Utah)
    Tobruk

Though that would mean that Dice would have to create quite a few different armies, whereas currently in 43 all they have are US/Japan.

So likely if they did end up with a euro Theatre map pack, it could be comprised of a similar theme. If they stuck with only allowing to play US as the allies, then I would like to see

    D-Day Beaches
    Battle of the Bulge
    Invasion of Sicily
    Liberation of Caen

i was under the impression that if it'll run on the 360, it'll run on a PC (for the most part of course)

The Demo I have played for the PS3 is very good and well worth 15 bucks...I'm definitely thinking about picking this one up. So if anyone wants to try a PSN share just PM me or post it in the thread.

I got it. I'm hoping the little stuff gets fixed soon. It still takes me like 3 tries to find a game and when you try to join with a group if it doesn't find a game it kicks everyone back to the lobby and you have to invite everyone back to try again...

    Downloaded the demo.

Anyone who enjoyed Battlefield 1942 will love 1943! The controls are awesome and the whole game is completely familiar. Great conversion of controls from PC to PS3. Great job Dice!

Downloaded it today. It's super fun but I'm spending all my time getting my *** kicked because the controls are just different enough from Call of Duty (the only shooter I have spent a lot of time playing) for me to get button mashing.

Flying is the best part though.

So does anyone have it for PS3?

Unified I think you do right? I want to get it for the PS3 but it seems everyone here and otherwise I know is getting it for the 360. I would like to know at least one person on the PS3.

Our share group should vote by the end of the day. If it gets voted down I would only get it for 360.

I know you are going the 360 route anyway. :wink2:

I just decided to go with the PSN version because of several other reasons even if I am roaming around with strangers...although both versions of the game are having chat problems now.

I was too until I switched to the rifleman class, now I do the pwning. It took about 3 games before I got comfortable but now I rock with it. Trick is to always crouch when you shoot because your accuracy becomes almost 100% if you do. If you are moving and standing you will almost always miss. Also the rpg is deadly on everything except tanks.

Im having lots of fun thus far, but for an old school BF fanboy it certainly leaves me yearning for more.

The price is the best part about the game, IMO. That's not necessarily a bad thing here though. Essentially it comes down to "Bang for the Buck", and this title nearly stands alone atop the mountain in that regard.

Coming from a self-admitted BF-Aholic, I can't help but imagine what a REAL sequel to BF1942 would/could have been on these consoles. I would have jumped out of my shoes to spend $60 on something that could have represented the ridiculous gameplay experience that game provided.

Naval engagements helped 1942 stand out far from other shooters. There were subs, destroyers, and controllable aircraft carriers. This lead to some very interesting gameplay on maps where the Navy was involved.

Artillery was also a huge part of the game, god how I miss teaming up with a buddy of mine who played sniper...he would give me great targets to pummel with long range batteries - and along with teamwork it also took some skill to use properly. Maps like Omaha Beach would have arty going back and forth causing devastating effects on both sides, much how it was in real life. The Arty instillations were destroyable, so it wasn't completely overpowered by any means. Bombing naval ships from the air was not only important, but could change the tide of battle easily.

So EA/Dice make a new Battlefield game with the shiny engine from Bad Company....add in planes & they decide to chose the pacific theater with only that? This is probably the thing driving me nuts the most. The Pacific theater was too reliant on naval engagements to be done properly with these limited mechanics. Iwo Jima without the massive Arty located on Mount Sarobachi....Guadalcanal without naval fighting...Coral Sea without the ability to destroy your opponents Aircraft Carriers...As a history nut this drives me absolutely bonkers. I still can't figure out why on earth they chose the Pacific Theater with having their game based on ground & air combat....umm hello Panzer Divisions & Luftwaffe...does any of that ring a bell Dice? This gameplay would have suited a European/African theater FAR BETTER.

I can, however get over most of this because I have been wanting to play a new BF game for quite some time now & the price of only $15 allows me to overlook some of the quirks I find in the game. It's a ton of fun to play, and really that is what matters most in the end.

Still though, I can't help but dream of a full scaled Battlefield 1943, with more players per battle & actual naval engagements. Damn you Dice, this is like teasing your dog with a steak only to toss it the gristle! They will still love it, but "oh what could have been...."

I downloaded BF 1942 for free on Origin last November, about 2 months after I ordered it from amazon.
