Ever watch the movie "Black Hawk Down"?? There is a scene towards the end of the film where someone gets shot in the femoral artery, quite possibly the most disturbing scene in any movie I have ever seen...

Good point. I forgot about that. That's a good example of a "severing."

If it's just nicked, that's alot better, but, still bad. What happened in the
case of BHD, is the atery tends to retract into the pelvis, and, the entire blood volume of a body can bleed into the pelvic girdle. Seriously, we're talking 10 minutes or less that the entire blood volume can go away.

Again, that young man is a lucky person and, obviously his GF at least had enough of a head on her shoulders to apply direct pressure, otherwise, he'd be dead right now. Also, the EMS crews were obviously good, because you can lose somone like that very, very quickly.

They don't usually start brawls. The big, well-publicized brawls have almost always been started by the other team. That's what happens when you have a reputation...the other team always wants to push and shove and jaw to let you know they aren't intimidated.

    Awful...

BTW...That whole thing about "Affecting his brain, IMO, is simply not
enough oxgenated blood making it to his brain. That can happen. We still had a pulse on a guy we picked up when I was doing in-service in Indy...We had, literally four lines running into him with ringers running full bore. Poor guy had lost so much blood he was declared dead when we got to the ER, but, he
had a pulse, even when we had pink instead of red coming out of some wounds. That's just will to live.

Nobody deserves to die like that, or like this.

from adam schefter just now - two times during surgery, Taylor flatlined.

    his condition is serious.

edit: more serious than it was generally thought.

Asystole is a non-shockable rythm too.

That he came out of that twice is a commentary on force of spirit.

is there a chance that i could ask everyone that, if you have a point regarding taylor's relative merit or lack of it, that you please start another thread?

this one should be for news, prayers and well-wishes. this kid is fighting for his life we should keep the bad vibes well away from here.

That whole "Will to live" stuff may sound like soap opra stuff, but, I double-dog promise you that science has no conception of will, or force of spirit (No, I'm not a christian)...."Will" exists even beyond conciousness. I don't pretend to understand it, I've just witnessed it.

    Honestly?

Providence is closer, IMO, but, conditioning is a big part...It's not the conditioning...It's the will to undertake the conditioning. Western medicine
has a fixation on the outside rather than the inside. You have that fire
    and will or you don't.

I'm going to be honest; If what they have reported is true (Doubt it)...but, if it is...Sean Taylor is one of the luckiest men alive. That he's still alive now is a commentary on the EMS personnel, his GF, and the hospital, and, again the will of the spirit. My bet is he can't be transported anymore. If he went flatline (Asystole) twice...That's not good. ATLS protocol dictates drug intervention which probably got his heart going again. IOW- they couldn't use the paddles, because there is no cardiac Rythm to shock.

Best of luck to that young man.

The next time you feel like bashing Miami (or any other program), go to this link:
    http://www.centralohio.com/ohiostate/stories/20050526/football/2145095.html.

    And then be quiet.

If you still feel the urge to post. Here's a video of one of your boys choking Wisconsin's QB to the point he couldn't speak for the rest of the game.

The MNF crew's Chris Berman mentioned that Sean responded to a Dr's request to squeeze his hand.

So that is a very good sign at least.

Its amazing . . . there are reports that he flatlined twice during his 6 hour surgery . . . so he obviously is fighting for his life, but the news is definitely better by the squeezing of the hand and facial expresisons.

I found this posted on the Miami Herald.....from a parent of a former team mate....sounds like Sean was a pretty good kid...

"Sean was a much better person than was protrayed on the media. he spent much time and effort to use his gifts to help others that was never seen or reported. When he was a young man and showed the beginnings of grest athleticism, he was polite and respectful. Sean Taylor was not known by what was aired or printed, but what his teammates, their parents and his family knew. It is a loss of a nice guy and gifted athelete. My condolences to his family and all sportsmen that are one dimensionally displayed by the uncaring but public eye of the media.

    Resquiecit in Pace Sean Taylor.

I can remember the Redskins fans who logged into FH earlier this season and how positive they were about Sean Taylor, it must be really sad for them as well as Taylor's Family and Friends and Teammates as well.

It is the worst news. But it is also good news: He is no longer suffering.

I hope they find the person(s) responsible quickly and the family can find closure.

Saddest thing is his 1-year old daughter will grow up without her father. They say he became a new man when he became a father. He was engaged to be married.

    RIP

I had the liberty of meeting Sean once, and every single negative thing said about the guy is a misconception. I've met a ton of athletes in my time, and he is one of the coolest guys I've ever met overall.

R.I.P. Sean Taylor, gone but never forgotten. I wish his family all the best, especially his daughter.

I don't like wishing negative things on others, but I hope the shooter suffers miserably.

Man, the footage on Channel 7 News (Miami) is disturbing. Family crying outside of the hospital at 5am.. I hope no one close to Sean was sitting at home and saw that.

Thoughts and prayers go to Taylor's friends and family. Although some have heard bad things about Taylor, I've only heard good things about him and his attitude from Redskin fans. No one deserves something like this. R.I.P. #21.

I am sure his last thoughts were of his little girl. I know when I had my heart attack she was all I could think of. I pray he got his life in order and came to know God. He will be looking down on her and with her all the time. My prayers go out to his family and friends that God may give them the strength to carry on.

Tragic, but this was a set up if ever seen. First there is a break in early in the week and a kitchen knife is left on his bed, than another break in and the guy knocks down his door and shots him. And Taylor has a machete by his bed for protection?

Sounds like a hit to me.

    RIP ST

That is what the family thinks happened. It was no coincidence and the boys from Perrine are most likely involved.

I'm just hoping that the next article to come out is that they caught the idiots, and not one saying one of them members of that little gang was found dead from revenge.

I have told a story about how Sean bought championship rings for an entire pop warner national championship team that my friend (Sean's friend) Coached. Well, by 10 this morning my friend Jerry received calls from EVERY SINGLE one of them. They're all going to reunite and stay at Jerry's house. All of them will be at the funeral, wearing the rings. I hope this story makes the paper to show how good of a heart Sean really had.

May Sean Taylor rest in peace!

    Prayers to his family.

On another note, I have to laugh at some trying to make this into a U Miami slam fest.

Come on guys, you're better than that.
EVERY PROGRAM and I mean EVERY SINGLE PROGRAM has a number of "thugs" on their team every year. It's the nature of athletics bottom line.

Is that where the dudes who stole his ATV's were from? Did that stuff never die? Or is this some other angle?

It was absolutely a hit though. The knife on the bed a week ago (foreshadowing). They came in Monday for the purpose of brazenly killing him. They didn't even try to sneak in (GF said they were awoken by loud noises). Then they bust in the bedroom and shoot him.

I'm like you. I want them to suffer a long time.
