I think that only works if you have other credible challengers and/or your champion is exciting enough to watch.

For me, I don't think they have either.

Neither Noguiera nor Couture should be in the discussion for a title shot right now IMO. Nog looked like a shot fighter against Mir. And old Randy already had his shot.

Velasquez and Carwin is a very interesting fight. Every time Velasquez stood with Cheick Kongo, Kongo dropped him. If Carwin connects, that fight will probably be over.

Carwin and Brock could be a good fight. Both big, strong guys. Both standout collegiate wrestlers. Every fight for Carwin is a step up from here on out.

Listening to Dana on the Rome show today, and he said he had a talk with Hendo about it. Again, I think the important thing is that he out and out said he knew he was knocked out and gave him another shot. I don't have a problem with playing until the whistle, but if your son was knocked out in the ring and someone gave him a flying elbow on top of it, and then said that he knew he was out at the time ...

I agree. It was pretty ballsy for Henderson to say he knew he was out though. That's kinda asking for trouble IMO.

You gotta go till the ref stops it though. Esp when you consider how inconsistent refs are with stoppages. Lucky Mazigotti wasn't in there lol. Bisping might still be getting hit right now.

IMO....there is nothing for GSP at 170.

The fight to be made is at 185 for GSP and that is not fair for GSP.

I hope Dana doesn't force him to fight at 185 to setup some mega fight. He needs to just let him dominate 170 for a while.

cause the ref didnt stop you.......cause what if you have great position.....rear naked choke locked in.....he goes limp a few seconds to relax his heart rate or something.....and you go "oh hes out" and let go.....he rolls over, mounts you and knocks you the fug out!!! thats why you dont stop until the ref stops you

so risk killing a guy for the w? plus he'd have to be pretty good to play possum that well. I don't think thats very likely, where as choking the guy too long is possible.

    A. the guy should tap

    if not...

    B. the ref needs to do his job and stop the fight.....its not the fighters job to know if hes out or not....

I agree. But question is with that mentality you are setting yourself to kill someone, in which case, will that be enough to justify you murdering someone for the win?

no guy ever goes into the cage wanting to hurt someone let alone kill them.......but everyone has a job to do.....fighters to fight....the judges to judge....and the ref needs to ref and stop the fight when the time comes

thats all fine, but as a fighter, you should have some responsibility. Most on the ref and the other fighter, but yes there should be some responsibility. You may lose the fight but at least you didn't kill someone because you did the right thing. After all its just a sport anyways.

I agree. It's not fair and he really doesn't want to go up. Everybody he'd fight at 185 would be 15-20 pounds bigger than him on fight night.

Obviously the big fight is with Anderson Silva. Silva walks around at 215.

He talked about building his body up properly if he made the move. But can he carry the weight? Will he lose any speed/athleticism with the added weight? And if so, how much?

He's cleaned out 170 though. And he annihilated the only guy at 155 that would present a challenge, so he may not have a choice.

I think a fight with Wanderlei at 185 could be in the cards. That'd be a big draw and a legit challenge.

You can't throw a top guy at him in his first foray up, much less Anderson. And though dangerous, Wanderlei is a one-dimensional fighter.

    I'd like to see it.

As for Dan Henderson, I like him and rooted for him in that fight. But dirty is dirty, and that was dirty.

This 'fighting till the refs stops it' stuff is a copout. It's one thing to have a submission and the ref is late getting there. It's another to viciously and deliberately hit a visibly unconscious man. That's been against the rules since UFC 1, when the only other rule was no eye gouging.

This wasn't just some pushing a guy off the pile after the whistle. This was flying down with a kill shot after the guy was already asleep, his hands at his side, and admitting it after the fact. That is dangerous. And you see guys all the time look to the referee when their opponent is in bad shape. Common sense and decency.
I take serious issue with anybody who excuses what Henderson did. I don't hate him. But it was a BS move, plain and simple.

It was such a big card, I haven't seen anybody talking about Jon Jones winning again. That kid impresses the heck out of me. He is only 21, 9-0 and 3-0 in UFC. Has very unorthodox punching, and kicking. He is a good wrestler, and at the same time has great stand up. Saturday he fought Jake O'Brien, and accomplished wrestler, and even though Jake tried to box thruought the fight, the few takedowns that he did attempt, went nowhere. And again...Jake got derailed after Jones faked a takedown, hit him with a spinning elbow and choked him out. Fight was on the undercard, so I haven't actually seen the fight until now, but man. That kid got talent, and he is only 21! I think he could of done a better job utilizing his reach, he let Jake sneak in and dirty box him a bit in first round. But overall...he is impressing me more and more.
He fights at 205, but he isnt big. If he will run in to serious trouble at 205, im sure he could make a drop to 185.

    Nick Diaz Interview

I used to think Diaz was a Dbag, but he grew on me. More fights I watched, the more I liked him. If he keeps on winning the way he is, Im sure Dana will bring him back, he is a great fighter. He did and intreview over the weekend at Mandalay Bay. Nick looks lost throught the interview, and keeps on looking around like he is expecting to cops to show up, lol. Enjoy.

I saw on Joe Rogan's twitter that he'd won via choke but didn't mention it for obvious reasons. I was hoping we'd see his fight at some point. I still haven't downloaded yet.

That's a guy I've been following since his UFC debut. Kid's got a bright future ahead of him.

seriously though, boxers die every year. its usually from blows over a very extended period of time and subsequent brain swelling. its an aspect of that sport that make it far more dangerous than mma.

I agree with bold statement, but I think he cared about the image of UFC too. Brock flipping off the paying crowd didn't fair well in Dana's camp or the image he wants the company to have.

Thus losing out on future PPV money.

    After the Henderson-Bisping fight, backstage:

(Reporter) Bisping taunted you a bit. 'Hey, you haven't knocked anybody out in 5 years, etc.' Does that make this any more gratifying considering the irony of that statement?"

(Henderson) "Where does that put him now? If I can't knock anybody out but him.... Puts him way down the list."

Thanks for that video. While I don't pretend that I'm a professional fighter, his style of fighting is very similar to my own. He's very good at take down defense. And he keeps people at distance with his reach and a wide array of kicks. Although the technique on some of those kick attempts was atrocious. He does a real good of watching how his opponent responds and then throwing something to take advantage of that. The spinning elbow and the low to high kicks were good examples of that.
