Try a system restore, unless you already tried that

Thanks I will have to give it a shot then. Two other people told me it didn't work so all there is left to do is to try, haha.

Also, if it does work, I have another question that maybe you guys could help me with. Is there anyway I could clean out my computer without messing up the internet connection and doing it manually? Maybe some program? Not like an anti-virus one but one that cleans out my computer overall.

Like I told FFIC, try ComboFix.

Just google it and DL it, it's free.

My comp was reeeeally ****ed up and that helped fix it.

If that doesn't work then I have another option, but def try that first.

Click that link that I put up and then DL the program. The program will hopefully do it's thing and rip out the virus.

I can tell you from experience real recently, that if you can get your computer to the point where it won't shut off every ten minutes, I would get all the important stuff onto a disc and then re install the operating system. The virus I had couldn't be found by any of the anti virus programs and ended up eating my motherboard. One thing that helped out a lot to get rid of a lot of viruses was malware bytes.

First off what porn sites are you going to so I know not to go there

Secondly, if you re-format your drive and do a clean install it absolutely works and will get rid of viruses.

I would go to "start", "run", "msconfig" and post a screenshot - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/tips/screenshot.mspx of all the items listed in the "startup" panel.

Or go to "exelib.com" and check off the ones you have that are nasty.

This is why I brought this up a few months ago because viruses like the one you are talking about start themselves up when the computer starts. I bet you if you could figure out what was making your computer do this and turn it off from the start - if it were a simple virus and not a complex one - you would have your problem solved.

Other than that try downloading what those guys have for you.

In my experience learning about computers and the A+ exam the less you install the better off you are at fixing your machine.

Does it shutdown by itself or is there a box with a countdown timer in it?

    a couple of other things . . .

if you're computer still shuts down every ten minutes, try changing the clock, to say a week ago, right when you enter windows. i had a virus like that and changing the clock gave me the time i needed to download the fix.

also, just a guess, but i don't think system restore will work. in fact, if you try it and it doesn't work, i would disable it, because viruses tend to "re spawn" from that folder.

lastly, i would make sure AVG is my anti-virus in the future.

Is freeware that will let you look at and disable the Apps that are loaded as you log on. It also does a pretty good job of cleaning up your registry. If you can’t download it, try booting into safe mode with networking, only go to that site and download the App though. Most of your security protections (along with most everything else) will be disabled in safe mode. Hit F8 as you’re booting up to get to safe mode.

Thanks for the help everyone. I did System Restore to about a month back and everything is working now.

Thanks Two Tacos for that. I'll have to check yours and Slick's suggestions.

Glad to hear that it's working properly now. Remember to always update your anti-virus and spyware programs, then runs scans at least once a week. If you're looking for a small (and fast) program that will clear the clutter, as well as cookies, try CCleaner. It literally takes 5 seconds to run and it's just one more tool that you'll have to keep your computer running smoothly.

I selected a new date to restore to, and clicked next and nothing happens. When I click on the back or cancel icons they work.

    Odd.

Have you tried doing it in safe mode?

How do you do it in safe mode bro? Sorry I am not a computer person.

You have to reboot and when it's' booting up press F8 on your keyboard it should take you to a menu where you are able to choose "safe mode".

try the same procedure in there.

I'm guessing you have a good reason to want to do a system restore?

My computer has been restarting on its own of late, and I am not sure why?

    That's a good reason

Yeah give it a shot in system restore.

If you've taken advise from other posters on here about anti virus software run that in safe mode as well.

Could not do a system restore in safe mode on my computer. I am running anti-virus in safe mode now. Any idea why I can't do a system restore in either mode? Could this be Mal or spyware, and if so what is the best to get rid of it? I am on my wifes computer now.:wink2:
