Not sure how many of you guys/gals know who he was. I can remember seeing him on the news as far back as when I first started watching tv. He made the report when Kennedy was shot, as well as Martin Luther King, and when Armstrong walked on the moon. Everybody who broadcasts the news today should be thankful he was around. R.I.P. Mr. Cronkite. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_obit_walter_cronkite "NEW YORK – Walter Cronkite, the premier TV anchorman of the networks' golden age who reported a tumultuous time with reassuring authority and came to be called "the most trusted man in America," died Friday. He was 92. Cronkite died at 7:42 p.m. with his family by his side at his Manhattan home after a long illness, CBS vice president Linda Mason said. Marlene Adler, Cronkite's chief of staff, said Cronkite died of cerebrovascular disease."
Sad. Rest in peace, old friend. 92 is a good, long life though. And he accomplished more in his than many others put together will in theirs. This marks the passing of the last real old-timer from that era of newscasters, doesn't it?
I knew him. Nice guy. Bit deaf at the end. Hillary Clinton gave a eulogy for his wife when she passed away a few years ago. Their family priest passed away recently (might have been a cardinal or something since he went back and forth to the vatican) He had two daughters and one son. After his wife passed away, he started dating his assistant (i believe). I'm not sure but the girlfriend may end up getting alot of his wealth and the family may get screwed Two of his best friends were Andy Rooney and Kurt Vonnegut. Nice guy overall. RIP
One of the finest anchormen ever. Many of us grew up watching Walter Cronkite on the nightly news and watched him report the major events of our time (JFK assignation, the moon landing, Vietnam war etc). I remember watching him as well. Probably my most vivid memory was his reporting of the moon landing/walk. He was the quintessential news report/anchor. Nothing but the facts, and delivered in way that was very, well, uniquely his own. He set the standard that so many today just don't measure up to IMHO. Walter Cronkite = class act. R.I.P. Mr. Cronkite.
Although I never had the privelidge of listening to him on a live broadcast since I was born in 1988, he is an American icon. R.I.P.
