Oh, Lordy, the memories come flooding back. Thank you Jack, for without your vision, it would not have happened!

That must have been really exciting to watch on tv when they landed on the moon. Hopefully we can enjoy the same thing in our lifetime by going to Mars.

Just visited the JFK Library in Boston- man, to think what this man could have done if he lived longer.

Anyone agree with the conspiracy theorists that the landing was staged? :shifty:

I saw the documentary, and arguments from both sides were convincing. :)

Nah, they can all be easily debunked. There is no doubt in my mind that we went to the moon. :wink2:

One small step for a man is what he said (recording clean up confirms this - and it makes sense he would phase it this way afterall)

also, best story ever about this...even if its urban legend....

Not only that, but Mythbusters busted the hell out of the more convincing arguments against a lunar landing...

I would give credit to the scientists, before I would jfk.

Well if we are to go there I would think the guys who flew the missions need the lions share.:wink2:

The 22 Dolphins on the field won the 72 SB but just where would they be without Joe Robbie? Sorry, I'll take Jack Kennedy first every day and twice on Sunday.:wink2:

I saw that episode. They were able to replicate different conditions that exist on the moon and show how they would show up on film or in pictures. It basically undercut every convincing argument that the conspiracy theorists had.

The science was already being developed. Computers, rockets, etc. So yes, the science would have been there. Would we have gone to the moon without JFK. Eventually yes I'm sure. I give him credit for seeing an opportunity and pushing the space race, but he's like al gore IMO. He saw the opportunity (internet in gore's case) and brought it to the people.

I was very young at the time, but I can remember watching it and just being totally mesmerized. Also, and there's another thread in here about the passing of Walter Cronkite, but my memories of the landing on the moon and the subsequent moon walk are inexorably tied to him. I've heard the Mr. Gorsky and the "a" man stories before, but had forgotten them. Good stuff.

As for the conspiracy theories, I just don't (can't) believe it. I choose to believe it was as real as it appeared to be to an entire nation and world 40 years ago. But, more importantly, to a 7-year old wide eyed and innocent little boy.

The module bases and the rovers, along with other paraphernalia left behind by our astronauts, can be seen with powerful telescopes from Earth.

The Hubble could probably read the rover's license plate. :wink2:
